Chapter 439: Chapter 439. First mission

Kailen stepped into the major’s office, after entering the simple looking grey building.

It was extremely simple and clean.

The major stood tall, straight back, poised demeanor, and battle hardened eyes.

He scanned Kailen for a moment, and nodded, simply.

Then, he spoke.

"Sit."

Kailen simply nodded, calm, and did as told.

A hologram flickered to life before them.

Some sort of map with various routes.

The image zoomed in, several transport spaceships moved along some sort of fixed path, with smaller ships moving alongside them.

"This is region x69. There’s a vimodial contractor supply route here. This route supplies vimodial contractor outposts with resources, poisons, personnel, and captured soldiers they have to feed on. If this route stays active, multiple fronts stay active."

Kailen nodded in understanding, studying the route calmly.

The major continued.

"Your mission is simple, locate the route, confirm the activity, and disrupt it." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

The image changed again.

"You are allowed to destroy the transport ships if possible and eliminate escorts too. Try as much as possible to retrieve useful information.

Also, if possible, try and rescue the captured soldiers..if possible. If it’s not possible, just focus on the primary assignment"

A glint of seriousness flashed through the eyes of the major as his eyes narrowed calmly on staring at Kailen again.

"Your abilities are... unusual, Black Flask. That’s why you were assigned this mission."

Kailen could see from the emotions he wore on his face, through emotional resonance, and his voice, that there was no praise in the man’s voice, only expectation.

"We expect results."

His back straightened.

"Prioritise the mission."

Kailen mused inwardly at his words.

"That means no unnecessary battles, and no pursuit outside the route. Perfect work for an assassin. Something I’m tailored for, thanks to my track record."

The major added,

"Damaging a supply route weakens every Vimodial force connected to it. One successful operation here reduces pressure across the Frontlines."

Silence ensued for a moment.

"Extraction is not guaranteed," the major added.

Kailen mused inwardly.

"So no one is coming to pull me out whether things go south, or I complete the mission with my life hanging by a thread, huh. Not a problem."

"Survival is advised. You leave now."

Kailen simply nodded.

"Understood."

There was no surprise or excitement on Kailen’s face as he turned to leave.

Only calm focus, clear targets, and a clear objective.

"Since they expect results, I’ll deliver."

The spaceship loomed across the expanse, crossing several regions in a moment.

Kailen’s spaceship proceeded towards a teleportation gate, one that directly led to region x69.

"According to the information I read concerning region x69, what makes the place extremely dangerous is the unpredictable nature of the space storms in the region.

Several recruits before me were handed this mission, but due to the unpredictable nature of the space storms, none of them returned.

Also, the exact location of the trade route in region x69 is unknown.

The only reason why some images have been captured via the hologram the major showed me is most likely because of some footage some recruits sent for the mission were able to send after they located the route, before they were killed by the unpredictable nature of the space storms.

After all, no one sent on this kind of mission would definitely be stupid.

Even if they located the route, they wouldn’t aimlessly charge in recklessly and get killed by the Vimodial contractors guarding the transport spaceships and the route.

The only possible reason why they got killed by the space storms.

As for surviving a space storm, it won’t be a problem for me.

When I get to region x69, what I need to do is, first of all, send several shadow creatures to scout the region for the location of the supply route while I stay at the military outpost of x69, the only safe place in the region where space storms don’t happen.

After the shadow creatures locate the supply route, I will determine the way forward, depending on the strength of the Vimodial contractors guarding the supply route."

Kailen’s spaceship moved through the teleportation gate after these thoughts.

The spaceship arrived in region x69 in a moment.

Kailen quickly proceeded towards the military outpost of x69.

It was a small outpost located on a moon.

The moment he arrived there, he was scanned, and allowed entry into the outpost.

The place had a few buildings, a few military personnel here and there.

Because he had already been identified as someone on a mission, his reason for coming to this outpost was not questioned.

However, rumors began to spread that another recruit had arrived for the mission concerning the Vimodial contractors supply route.

Many personnel started to whisper about the said recruit with pity, as they knew that the recruit was meant to die.

Not a single person had managed to survive this particular mission.

They all died.

But when people found out that it was Black Flask Darkhaven who had arrived for the mission, some showed optimism, even though they didn’t know how he was going to pull it off.

The majority, however, doubted that he could achieve anything worthwhile.

Inasmuch as they didn’t doubt his accomplishments, this mission was simply impossible.

Some even questioned the military higher ups in their heads for sending such a valuable recruit to his death.

A few, however, were able to discern that, if the higher ups sent a valuable recruit like Kailen Darkhaven on such a mission, they were confident that he could pull it off.

As for Kailen, he was currently seated in his room at the outpost, looking through the eyes of his shadow creatures, who were currently scouting region x69.

It had been several hours since the scouting began, and Kailen had seen through the eyes of his shadow creatures unpredictable and terrifying space storms.

The terrifying and unpredictable space storms had actually killed most of the shadow creatures, by ripping them into shreds.

However, because the shadow creatures could not die permanently, they had simply reappeared at region x69 and continued their scouting.

In order to make the scouting easier, Kailen had ordered them to make use of teleportation runes at certain periods to increase the speed of their scouting.

The search went on for three days, and yet, the more than 2000 shadow creatures deployed for the scouting had found nothing.

It was simply a matter of being shredded to pieces by the unpredictable nature of the space storms, them reappearing to continue the scouting, and the same cycle repeating itself over and over again.

But Kailen didn’t give up.

The scouting continued as he used Tenebrous Requiem to observe everything through the eyes of the shadow creatures.

"Finally..."

Suddenly, Kailen muttered as he spotted a convoy in a very distant region in region x69, where several spaceships moved along some sort of fixed path with small spaceships moving alongside them.

However, Kailen’s eyes widened once again as he observed through the eyes of some other shadow creatures.

"There isn’t just a single supply route. There are five of them."
