He Became A Monstrous Genius After Obtaining A Time Dilation Artifact-Chapter 438.Arriving at the Frontlines
The Frontlines station was huge. It floated in space like a giant fortress.
Outside the ship, Kailen saw small ships moving extremely fast between big platforms, as lights flashed and explosions glowed in the distance. Smoke and fire rose from damaged ships.
The place felt alive — and deadly.
As Kailen, Lian Yu, and the others stepped off the ship, they saw soldiers being carried on stretchers. Some were badly wounded, covered in blood. Others were already dead, their faces pale, eyes closed forever. The sight made a chill run through several individuals.
The giant captain appeared. He was huge — about five meters tall. His massive axe remained strapped across his chest, covered in its sheath.
The giant captain’s presence was suffocating, a testament that the battlefield had tried and tested him.
"Welcome to the Frontlines," he said.
He looked around the hall, his eyes completely cold and sharp. "This is not a school. This is not a place to train. This is a battlefield. Here, you learn from war. If you survive, you survive."
He paused, as his gaze moved across the room, stopping briefly on Kailen.
"No drills. No practice. No lessons. War will teach you everything."
The hall went quiet. Everyone felt the weight of his words.
"One rule," the captain continued, specifically looking at Kailen and his group of friends. "You will not fight with friends. Lovers will not fight together. Brothers and sisters will not fight together. Feelings get people killed."
A look of realization flashed through the eyes of everyone in the group, but determination appeared again. They had come to the Frontlines to hone themselves. If this was what they had to deal with, then so be it.
They just had to survive. They would do anything to grow, and survive.
He looked at the recruits again. "High-potential fighters will be spread out. Some of you go to safe zones. Some to dangerous zones. Some will not come back. You may request missions, but approval is not promised. Do not ask to go together. The answer will be no."
He tightened his grip on the axe. "From now on, you are not friends. You are not comrades. You are assets. You were all scanned by transparent scanners the moment you stepped into the hall. Your rooms have already been assigned, and your missions will be assigned as soon as possible. Some of you will join certain new squads." His gaze lingered on Kailen, next words directed solely to him: "And some of you will not."
Kailen simply nodded. The captain’s words directed at him made perfect sense. The military already knew about his shadow creatures.
He was the perfect person for solo missions because he was a one-man army. As a matter of fact, his shadow creatures would never be a liability on the battlefield because they never died.
"So they plan on giving me solo missions, huh," he mused.
As he thought, the man continued, "Here, efforts are rewarded. Incompetencies may lead to death on the battlefield."
Kailen simply nodded to the man’s words. This was the military, after all. Nothing strange about that.
His eyes moved across the hall. Beyond him, he saw more wounded soldiers arriving on stretchers, some struggling to breathe as healers and doctors rushed to those who were not beyond saving.
Smoke and the smell of burning metal filled the air. Death was everywhere — close and real.
He looked out the window. Beyond the station was the Frontlines — fleets, smoke, and flashes of battle stretched across space. It was big, dangerous, and alive. This was where the universe would test them all.
"So this is the Frontlines, huh," Kailen mused to himself. "This place is no joke. Very good. The perfect place for my Asura Enlightenment physique, and the perfect place to terrorize some Vimodial contractors. As for Lian Yu and the others, I am sure they will be fine."
Kailen sent a thought transmission to the members of the Atrexia and Sword Tribunal Society, friends included:
"The key word is to survive. There’s no heroism in dying to prove a point. We may be here to grow stronger, but that’s only possible when you are alive. And surviving includes killing enemies before they kill you."
After the members of both societies nodded at his words, he sent a personal thought transmission to Zarek, Lian Yu, and the group: a humorous one carrying deep concern.
"I want all of you at Lian Yu and Anaya’s wedding. I’m not carrying anyone’s body down the aisle."
With warm smiles on their faces and before they could reply to him, and Lian Yu and Anaya could even respond via thought transmission that they would wait for Kailen and Arrie’s wedding before they settled, the giant captain voiced again:
"Move." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Everyone quietly nodded, then walked through various teleportation gates that led to their resting places, or camps, to be precise.
When Kailen arrived at his camp, he observed everything quietly. The place was quiet, but a sense of ominous dread loomed over it.
Quiet chatter reverberated across the camp, as various soldiers of different races, men and women alike, engaged in conversation.
The buildings were extremely simple — metallic, rectangular, and grey.
Several gazes were directed toward him.
"So this is him?"
"The Black Flask alchemist and rank 0 runesmith with a rune skill proficiency of 99 percent?"
"He’s also the youngest emotional realm painter in the empire, right?"
"He’s the one in the videos, the one who strangely discovered a vimodial society on the academy campus and put a gruesome end to them?"
"I respect him for that, no doubt."
"The guy who killed the Darkhavens, Harkers, and wiped out the Arcane Empowerment Sect?"
"These achievements may be respectable, but the Frontlines are different. A single misstep and you are dead. His achievements before coming here will not save him. Let’s see what surprises he will bring us."
"Yeah, you have a point, but I believe Kailen Darkhaven won’t let us down."
"Yeah, after all, he’s Captain BloodFallen’s disciple, right?"
"Who’s that?"
"The Tyrant Slayer? The vampire who was rumored to be a Black Flask but was confirmed to rather have a poison affinity in addition to his blood affinity?"
"Yeah, he recently became a captain after leading his squad, including some new recruits who were instructors of the Astral Empire academy, to destroy a vimodial contractors outpost three days ago."
"Interesting. But my bet is that Kailen Darkhaven is inexperienced and that he will die on his first mission?"
"Inexperienced. After everything ridiculous feat he has pulled, if he’s inexperienced, then what are some of us? He will become a captain very soon, wanna bet?"
As these conversations went on, Kailen completely ignored them and the looks of doubt, curiosity, respect, and scorn directed his way.
He took no offense. He was not here to prove a point to anyone. He was not in competition with anyone. People were entitled to their own opinions.
Also, he was pleased that Uncle Bloodfallen was making a name for himself with Uncle Cyco, Nuel, and Aunt Bianca at the Frontlines.
As Kailen moved towards the building where his room was, he received a notification that he had received his first mission.
"Sharp and efficient. Not even some time to rest."
