Chapter 88: Mating Season 4

"What have you done to her?!" Lawrence angrily lurched forward to Audrey.

He always knew this clique was crazy, but he never knew they could get this adventurous with people’s lives.

"Calm down, it’s not her," Maria said, holding Lawrence back.

"Audrey would never hurt an innocent person," Sandra spoke to Lawrence for the first time.

On hearing her voice beside him, he felt his anger dissipate instantly, his rationality returned to him and he slowly turned to look at Sandra by his side.

"I’m sorry. I overreacted," Lawrence apologized to Sandra.

"You don’t need to apologize, I’d do the same if I were in your shoes," Audrey replied calmly and walked toward the tall rocks.

Alex quietly followed Audrey behind. Surprisingly, he didn’t panic, he watched Audrey’s reaction as the whole event unfolded and decided to put his fate in her hands.

For her to look so calm meant that she was sure that Maya would be saved.

"I’m sorry," Lawrence repeated.

Sandra sighed and replied, "It’s o-"

"Audrey?" Stacy’s voice suddenly sounded behind them.

They all turned towards her in surprise, even Audrey had forgotten about her for a second.

"What’s happening?" Stacy asked in confession, "Where are my?" 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"We’ll tell you everything later," Maria walked up to Stacy and patted her back, she knew Stacy would be very confused finding herself in strange and unfamiliar surroundings.

Audrey remained quiet in front of the giant rock. She stepped back a little and slowly raised her hands above her head and the ground suddenly started to shake.

"What’s going on?!" Sandra asked loudly, running over to Alex to hold onto him.

They all watched in awe as the giant rocks slowly started to slide into the earth, causing the ground to shake from the vibration they were causing.

The rocks finally disappeared to reveal the white statue standing in the beautiful grotto.

"Oh my goodness! That’s Audrey!" Sandra exclaimed, pointing at the beautiful statue.

"You shouldn’t have brought her here," A voice very similar to Audrey’s voice spoke from the grotto.

Everyone, apart from Audrey was surprised. They looked at Audrey strangely, wondering if it was one of her powers to speak without opening her lips because they were so sure the voice they heard belonged to her.

"Release her, Catherine, she’s innocent and-"

"No! She carries her blood!" The statue’s voice boomed over the whole garden.

"Damn, it talks," Alex said quietly.

"And our blood, too. If you hurt her, then we’re no different from her mother. Please, the girl is innocent, give her back," Audrey spoke cautiously.

She didn’t realize that Catherine’s statue would be very vengeful to anything or anyone connected to Elena.

The whole place remained silent and everyone was on edge as they didn’t hear any reply from the statue.

They were scared that it might have killed Maya, or possibly transmigration her into the unknown.

"Audrey," Maria quietly called behind her.

"Shh," Sandra shushed Maria, frowning at her.

"Please, Catherine, Maya has nothing to do with her. She doesn’t even know who her real mother is," Audrey said, slowly walking up the grotto and looking around and through the thick vines behind the statue trying to see if she could see Maya.

"Audrey! What’s that?!" Stacy spoke loudly, pointing to the corner of the grotto.

Every looked in the direction Stacy was pointing to and saw an intertwined floral vine slowly rolling down a person that had been wrapped tightly with slimmer lines.

"That’s Maya," Lawrence said and quickly ran over to Maya and caught her before she could reach the ground.

He quickly started to untangle the vine straps wrapped around Maya as he lowered himself to the ground, nestling Maya on his lap.

Audrey sighed in relief, mentally thanking the statue, knowing it could read her mind.

"Let me help," Audrey walked over and touched a strand of vine around Maya’s body, and the rest wilted off to the ground.

"Thank you, is she okay?" Lawrence asked as he stared down at his cousin who remained motionless on his lap.

"She’ll be fine, just knocked out from lack of oxygen," Audrey assured.

"Um, can someone tell me what’s going on?" Stacy asked again, this time, she sounded really curious and scared.

"Come on, everyone, let’s head to the shades," Audrey pointed to the other side of the garden that had the strange huge trees.

Alex went and helped Lawrence with Maya while the rest headed to the other side.

"Maybe, the statue can help by telling you where the other half of the amulet is," Maria whispered beside Audrey.

Maria subtly held Audrey’s hand, causing them to slow down and walk behind the others.

Audrey chuckled and looked over at her cousin, " It already did."

"How?" Maria asked.

"Remember the half I found already?" Audrey asked Maria.

"Ah, yes, yes, yes, you told me about it already, but... can’t it just tell you where to find the other one?" Maria asked.

She didn’t understand why the statue couldn’t just make everything easier for everyone by telling Audrey where she could find the other half of the amulet. Why was she letting Audrey struggle all alone? After all, Audrey was trying to avenge her too, so the least she could do was to make it easier for her to find it.

"It’s her mission to find the other half, not mine, Maria," The statue suddenly spoke again.

Maria paused and stopped walking, slowly looking at Audrey before slowly turning to the statue.

"Am I in trouble?" Maria asked in a whisper.

Audrey chuckled and shook her head, "No, it was probably just responding to your thoughts," Audrey replied.

"It can hear my thoughts?" Maria asked with interest.

"It does everything I can do and more," Audrey informed and started walking ahead.

"Interesting," Maria commented and ran up to Audrey.

"What’s she done to make the statue talk to her?" Sandra asked as Audrey approached them under the shade of a huge tree.

"She was just being curious. She’s not awake yet?" Audrey bent over to Maya and placed a hand over her forehead, causing Maya to furrow her brows and slowly open her eyes.

The moment Maya saw Audrey in front of her, she suddenly raised herself from Lawrence’s lap and engulfed Audrey in a tight hug, not saying a word as she buried her face into Audrey’s neck.

Stacy stood by the side, staring curiously at the new girl. She thought the girl was formed from one of Audrey’s magical powers because they had just unwrapped the girl like some kind of mystical creature from a magical vine from a grotto in an enchanted and weird garden that had Audrey’s statue in it.

It was her first time seeing Maya, so she had no idea about her.

And Maya’s beauty was so enchanting that she concluded she was made from magic.

"It’s okay, Maya, you’re safe now," Audrey gently patted Maya’s back.

She knew Maya must be scared by what had just happened to her, her reaction was understood.

"I’m not worried about me, Audrey, I was worried about you," Maya slowly detached herself from Audrey, looking into her eyes as she stood in front of her.

"Worried about me?" Audrey asked.

Everyone stared at Maya in disbelief, they thought Maya was too in love with Audrey to be thinking of how she wouldn’t be able to see Audrey again, even on the point of death.

"Yes, I kept seeing images of how a man..." Maya trailed off.

"Tell me, Maya, what did you see?" Audrey softly urged.

"I saw a man drive a knife through your heart, on this same river," Maya said quietly.

Maria sighed.

She knew it was the work of the statue.

"And, did you see who the man was?" Audrey asked, hoping the statue didn’t reveal Alpha Lake’s identity to Maya. She didn’t want her to get the wrong idea about him.

"No... but, I think the man looked very familiar," Maya furrowed her brow, trying to remember who the man looked like.

"It’s alright, Maya, I’m right here with you, alive and healthy. It’s fine," Audrey gave Maya a very short hug and smiled at her.

She shared a look with Maria, they knew that Maya would have died if she hadn’t intervened.

White witches weren’t overly kind and harmless as people thought. They killed too.

They killed whoever they believed was dark and dangerous to them and humanity. And they would tell you the reason for your death before they killed you.

And that was exactly what the statue was doing. It showed Maya the reason why she was going to take her life through those visions.

But Maya didn’t understand because she wasn’t aware of the incident, and had no idea that such a thing ever happened, she was just being a scapegoat for her wicked mother.

After the tension, Audrey magically sets up a picnic beside the river for her friends to make them feel relaxed and forget the bad experiences they’ve witnessed so far.

"Really?!" Maya asked as she ate her apple, glaring at Stacy.

Sandra was the one telling everyone how Stacy had bullied Audrey and them years ago, she was just saying it to entertain everyone and to tease Stacy because she knew they’d become friends after Janeth’s incident at the gala.

But she was surprised to see how serious Maya took it, and seeing the way Maya was glaring at Stacy, she feared Maya was going to launch her dark witch powers on Stacy. She felt bad for Stacy’s uncomfortable condition.

"Chill, Maya, she said it’s in the past, can’t you see they’re friends now?" Lawrence asked, trying to salvage the heated atmosphere.

"No, every enemy of Audrey is my enemy too, past or present," Maya replied haughtily, eyeing Stacy hatefully.

"I don’t need your acknowledgment, Maya, I owe you no explanation," Stacy spoke in her usual sassy tone, surprising everyone.

They didn’t know Stacy still had her sassiness in her, they thought she had forgotten all about her past temperament after her dealings with Audrey.

"And I’ll never acknowledge a bully," Maya threw her apple at Stacy.

"How dare you?!" Stacy grabbed the grapes from the basket ready to throw them at Maya.

"That’s okay, Stacy," Audrey held down Stacy’s hand that was aiming at Maya’s face.

She knew a food fight was about to go down if she didn’t put a stop to their childish banter.

"But... she started it," Stacy whined.

"Tsk, such a bummer," Maria scoffed, curling her lips to the side in a naughty smirk as she subtly lowered her pear to the basket.

Audrey sent Maria a disapproving look. She knew she was disappointed she didn’t get the food fight she was expecting, but Audrey didn’t pay her attention, she wasn’t in the mood to attend to a naughty adult’s need.

"Calm down, Maya. Stacy is changed now, right?" Audrey turned to Stacy, giving her the chance to proclaim her innocence.

Stacy sighed, staring unblinkingly at Maya, "Yes, it was all in the past."

"I see, then I’ll think about it before accepting her as a friend. She hurt someone I love, I have to sleep over it," Maya haughtily removed her face from Stacy, showing her with her body language that she wasn’t considering changing her mind about her anytime soon.

"Hey, let’s play a game!" Alex suddenly suggested, drawing attention to himself.

"Yeah, I’m in!" Sandra quickly chirped in.

After a long day of playing and running around in the garden, evening approached and it was time for them to return to the Pack.

"Do we really have to go?" Sandra whined as they headed to the gate.

"Yes," Audrey replied.

"You can tell me any day you want to come back here and I’ll bring you," Audrey assured.

She noticed that her friends were all reluctant to leave, they’d come to fall in love with the ethereal beauty of the garden.

"Fine, I’ll hold you to that," Sandra said.

"Sure. I wouldn’t want you to miss finding your mate because of me," Audrey winked at her.

She had purposely spoken loudly to see Lawrence’s reaction. She wished she would be there to see how he acted with Sandra by midnight. She was so sure that he was anxiously waiting for midnight to devour her poor friend.

"Audrey!" Sandra pinched Audrey’s tummy, glaring at her for speaking about the full moon and finding a mate in front of Lawrence.

"Ouch, fine, sorry," Audrey chuckled, rubbing her assaulted tummy.

Sandra humphed and kept walking ahead.

Soon, they were out of the forest and walking toward the practice field which was surprisingly filled with werewolves.

"It’s starting already," Maria said as she saw more werewolves trooping into the field.
