Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 85: Mating Season 1
Audrey woke up very early the next morning and immediately ran downstairs after her shower. She quickly made breakfast for Alpha Lake and ran out of the house before he returned from his morning run.
"Hey, where are you?" Audrey spoke to Maria on the phone.
"Uh, sleeping, of course, it’s just 5: a.m. I’m not a wolf like you," Maria replied groggily.
"Oh come on, wake up already, let’s meet up at Sandra’s," Audrey said and ended the call immediately.
As she walked over to Sandra’s house which was quite far away from the Packhouse, she kept looking back to make sure that Alpha Lake wasn’t anywhere in sight.
After that incident yesterda, he’s not even so much as looked her way. It hurt her feelings and her pride, but she liked it that way. Today was a full moon by midnight and it would be easier for her to avoid him if he was still angry at her.
She reached Sandra’s house and knocked on her door, and immediately, the door opened to reveal Alex in brown shorts and a bare chest.
"Morning, Audrey, everything alright?" He asked, stepping aside for her to walk into the house.
"Well, everything is alright, for now, let’s see how the day plays out," Audrey sighed and lowered herself onto the sofa.
"Are you worried about him?" Alex asked as he came and sat beside Audrey.
"Yeah... I’m afraid I won’t be able to escape from him when the time comes," Audrey said in a low tone, playing with her fingers on top of her lap.
Initially, she had thought she would have found her amulets and be gone from the Pack before the full moon; but looks like she didn’t plan out everything perfectly.
She got caught up with reality.
"Hey, it’s okay," Alex held her hands in his comfortingly.
"Morning, Audrey, why are you here so early?" Sandra asked as she came out of her room, rubbing her eyes sleepily and walking over to her kitchen for some milk.
"Hello, sleep well?" Audrey asked with a smile.
"Mhm," Sandra replied with a nod as she came and sat beside Audrey, wrapping her arms around Audrey’s like a koala and placing her head cutely on Audrey’s arm.
"Aww, is she always this cute every morning?" Audrey asked in a sweet voice, petting her friend’s hair.
"Hey, you!" Alex pushed Sandra away from Audrey, causing her to fall unceremoniously to the floor.
"Ouch! My butt hurts, Alex!" Sandra glared at him.
"This is her every morning," Alex smirked at Audrey as he pointed at the angry Sandra who was still rubbing one side of her butt as she sat on the floor.
"Go get the door, Ms. Grumpy," Alex crossed his legs and relaxed on the sofa.
"So evil," Sandra whined as she stood to open the door.
Audrey couldn’t stop herself from smiling; before Miranda and the twins, this right here was her very first family, and nothing was going to change that, she would never forget them and she’d do everything possible to protect and make them happy.
"Don’t be too hard on her, Alex," Audrey patted his lap.
"Since you’ve asked, my lady, your wish is my command," Alex turned to Audrey with a smile, blinking his eyes continuously.
"Ass kisser!" Sandra made sure to raise her hand very high as she smacked Alex’s head.
"Oh fuck!" Alex held the back of his head as he hunched over in pain.
He quickly recovered and sprang up, ready to chase Sandra.
"Quit it, Alex, she’s just a girl," Audrey held him back by the wrist, pointing to Sandra who was now hiding behind a very sleepy Maria with half-closed eyes.
"Ugh, fine," Alex plopped down back to the sofa.
"Let’s go, Maria, the coast is clear," Sandra whispered and pushed Maria into the living room from behind, still looking over Maria’s shoulder for any threats.
"Get up, Alex, go get a chair for yourself," Sandra said from Maria’s back.
Alex rolled his eyes but stood up anyway and when he returned, he returned with two chairs for himself and Sandra.
The moment Maria sat down beside Audrey, she slowly laid her head on Audrey’s shoulders and started snoring right away.
Audrey sighed, shaking her head unbelievably at her cousin.
"So, everything okay, Audrey?" Sandra asked, sitting in front of her in the chair Alex had brought for her.
"Well, I was worried, but Alex here told me that everything is going to be okay," Audrey replied.
"Worried about what?" Sandra asked, her face creasing with worry.
"Just... Alpha Lake. I’m scared I won’t be able to resist him when midnight comes, I can already feel my wolf getting restless this early, I need to find somewhere to hide for the rest of the day, if not, once my wolf surfaces, he’ll surely find me, as long as I’m in this pack," Audrey explained.
"Then, I’ll keep you company, anywhere you want to go, I’m down, after all, we’re both running from our mates," Sandra said seriously.
"No, Sandra, you can’t," Audrey sighed, "We both have a different destiny, I won’t allow you to forfeit yours because of mine. You have to stay, and face whatever fate brings to you today," Audrey said with a small smile.
She knew Sandra was scared that she’d get hurt again by Lawrence, she hadn’t told her what she had seen when she touched him, she wanted her to find out everything on her own. And she wasn’t about to drag her into her century-long feud with Alpha Lake.
"Then..." Sandra bit her lips in confusion, "What are you going to do? Where will you go?" Sandra asked in concern.
"Don’t worry about me, remember I told you guys about my secret gar-"
"No! Audrey! No!" Maria suddenly wrapped her hands protectively around Audrey, panting loudly.
"It’s alright, it’s alright, Maria, it’s just a nightmare, everything is fine now," Audrey said in a soothing voice, calming Maria down.
Sandra and Alex watched in confusion as Maria slowly calmed down in Audrey’s arms.
"Just read her mind and tell us what you see already," Sandra said impatiently.
Audrey sent her a look with her brows raised, "That would be a violation of privacy, even if I do it to others without their permission, I can’t do it to my family. I can’t read anyone’s mind in this room without proper permission," Audrey said seriously.
Alex sent Sandra a scornful look, "Did you hear that, you mannerless donkey, she said we’re family, bet you don’t know what that means," Alex scoffed.
"You!" Sandra raised her hand to hit Alex but Maria suddenly sat up, drawing her attention away from Alex.
"What happened, Maria?" Sandra asked.
"Audrey, I saw it again," Maria whispered, looking at everyone in the room.
"Who?" Audrey asked.
"The man who claims to be your father, he-he almost killed you in my dream just now," Maria said, rubbing her hand over her face.
"He was so close, he had a knife to your throat and was almost slicing you open, and then I woke up," Maria looked at Audrey, tears brimming in her eyes.
"Hey, hey, it’s okay, I’m alright, I’m alright. I’m not that easy to kill, you know?" Audrey patted Maria’s thighs, consoling her.
"I know, but, I just feel like he’s getting closer from where ever he is. Like he’ll soon discover that you’re his daughter," Maria said.
"Don’t worry, Maria, we’ll be right by her to protect her when he comes," Sandra said.
"Yeah, we’ll always be right by her side," Alex confirmed with a nod.
"What are you going to do, I mean, today... Where are you gonna go during midnight?" Maria asked.
"Ah, yes... That, I was just about telling them about my secret garden, remember you once said you saw a vision about my statue in a garden?" Audrey stood from the sofa, wearing a mischievous grin.
"Yes, I remember," Maria replied.
"I want to take you all to that place right now," Audrey announced, smiling.
"Really?" Maria asked.
"Yes," Audrey nodded.
"What are we waiting for? Let’s get going!" Alex spoke enthusiastically.
Everyone turned towards him and was surprised to see him already standing beside the door and pulling his blue shirt over his head.
"Okay then, let’s go," Audrey chuckled.
The sun was still rising, dissipating the morning dew with each strike of its golden ray.
The four friends walked through the Pack, noticing how everyone seemed to be heading somewhere.
"Where’s everyone going to?" Sandra asked.
"Today is a full moon, of course, people are going to be busy," Alex replied.
"Hey! Catherine!" Maya called from a distance.
Four of them turned their necks to the side and saw Maya running towards them, Lawrence following behind.
Sandra’s breath hitched in her throat, she wasn’t planning on seeing Lawrence so early, their eyes locked, each unable to look away from each other.
Looking at him at that moment seemed like torture to her soul, today was supposed to be the first anniversary of their mating, but no, they were typically still strangers to each other.
And, it’s all his fault for rejecting her. Anger overtook her and she quickly removed her eyes from him, even if he looked exceptionally handsome today, she didn’t give a damn. She prayed the moon goddess blessed her with another hot and handsome mate so she could rub it on his face as she flaunted her new mate.
"Audrey, I’ve been looking everywhere for you since yesterday," Maya came and wrapped her arms around Audrey’s waist.
Audrey’s friends shared a secret look between them, already aware of why Maya was looking for Audrey.
"Ah, I see, sorry about that, I just had a few things to deal with," Audrey subtly removed Maya from her.
"It’s alright, it’s good that everyone is here. I have something to say," Maya said and shyly walked over to stand in front of Audrey, leaning over to take her two hers into hers.
Everyone, apart from Lawrence, exchanged a knowing look, they would have loved to tell Maya not to go ahead with her plan but they knew she wouldn’t listen, just like Alex didn’t listen, so, it was better she heard it from Audrey herself.
"Catherine, Audrey, it doesn’t matter which identity you choose to go with, I just want you to know that I’ll love you either way," Maya said, seriously looking into Audrey’s green eyes.
"Aww, that’s so thoughtful of you, Maya. Thanks. We were just about-"
"I love you, Audrey, I’ve chosen you to become my mate. I don’t care if my real mate is out there somewhere, I know it sounds wrong to say, but I don’t care If she’s out searching for me. For me, I’ve chosen you, Audrey, I love you, please be my mate," Maya said with all the emotions she could muster up.
Everyone stared at her pathetically. They felt her words and knew she’d gone too deep in her feelings to accept rejection, but they knew it was coming.
Audrey sighed heavily, she’s already planned how to reject Maya, but hearing her heartfelt confessions made it hard for her to outrightly reject her and walk away.
She was also taking into consideration that she was her niece, she didn’t want to be too harsh on her. Even though she was currently planning on how to kill her mother, she still loved her because in the end, the same blood ran in their veins and she wasn’t the one she was angry at. She wasn’t about to hate her for no reason, just like Alpha Lake did to her in the beginning.
"Maya, I-"
"Morning, Audrey. Everyone, Assemble in the hall, right now," Andrew informed and immediately walked away, not sparing Alex a glance.
