Chapter 84: Friends Forever.

Audrey had already been expecting that from Alex for a long time now, she’d been aware of his feelings for her since the first time she met him.

And right now, it didn’t come as a surprise to her.

"Alex!" Sandra scolded angrily.

"you shouldn’t have!" Sandra stood from her chair, glaring at Alex.

"Well, it’s none of your business, you’re not the one I asked to be my mate!" Alex stood, his eyes changing as his wolf pushed forward. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"Calm down, you two," Audrey said.

Drama was the last thing she needed in her life at that moment.

She pushed back her chair and walked over to Alex, "Follow me."

Alex sent Sandra a glare before he obediently followed Audrey to the back of the Packhouse, close to the practice field.

"Before you say anything, Audrey, I’m not remorseful for what I said," He looked right at her while speaking.

"Because that’s how I feel about you, I love you, Audrey," Alex confessed.

He held Audrey’s gaze intensely, looking expectantly at her, wishing his years-long crush would finally become a reality for him.

Audrey sighed, contrary to what everyone expected, she wasn’t angry in the slightest, she just felt bad about what she was about to say to her very good friend.

"I love you too, Alex," Audrey held Alex’s hand, gently wrapping her hands around his.

"Really?" Alex asked excitedly, hope shining in his eyes.

"Yes, Alex, I love you, but, just as a friend," Audrey smiled softly at him.

Alex’s face fell, and he felt Audrey’s words drive right through his heart like a sharpened arrow. It hurt so much.

He already knew he didn’t stand a chance with her, but he was hoping a miracle would happen and cause her to have a change of heart towards him.

Alex chuckled, shaking his head, "Why can’t it be me?" He asked quietly, holding Audrey’s hand with his two hands, bringing it close to his heart.

Audrey smiled and simply moved closer to him and hugged him, "You know it, we’re not meant for each other. Trust me, what you initially felt for me was formed from pity, not love. Your person is out there somewhere, waiting patiently for you. Don’t you want to feel that special mate bond with them?" Audrey spoke softly, gently patting Alex’s back.

"I know, Audrey, I know. But why must it be the Alpha? After everything he’s done to you, sometimes, I feel like the Moon goddess doesn’t care about us at all, sometimes her actions are so cruel," Alex sighed.

"Don’t say that, come on, let’s forget this ever happened, okay?" Audrey slowly withdrew from him, smiling up at him.

"You sure you don’t want to give me a try? I can be very sweet you know?" Alex raised a brow at Audrey.

"Alex!" Audrey called sternly.

"Fine, friends?" Alex outstretched his hand to Audrey.

"Friends forever," Audrey shook his hands, looking into his eyes with a smile.

They both chuckled, happy they finally got that out of the way.

"But trust me, if you ever change your mind, I’m always available," Alex winked.

"Not happening," Audrey playfully hit his arm.

"Ouch!" Alex feigned hurt, rubbing his arm with a pout.

"Come on, let’s get back in so Sandra can finally relax," Audrey held Alex’s hand and led him back into the kitchen.

Andrew who’s been standing in a corner listening to them heard them coming and instantly left the place.

As he hid in a corner and watched the two friends pass him by, he felt a strange twinge in his chest. As he stared at Audrey, he thought he’d feel hurt as he had just found out that she believed that Alpha Lake was her mate, but no! He didn’t feel bad, instead, he felt kind of happy, happy that Audrey and Alpha Lake would finally put aside their differences and embrace their mate bond.

But staring at Alex’s retreating figure, he felt that twinge again, remembering Alex’s words as he promised Audrey that he’d always be available for her made him feel strangely uncomfortable, it deeply disturbed him hearing Alex profess his undying love for Audrey.

These days, Alex always seems to find a way into his head, even when he doesn’t want to think about him.

He quietly sighed, walking away from his hiding spot.

"So?" Maria asked anxiously as she saw Audrey and Alex walking back in, holding each other’s hands.

Alex cleared his throat as they reached the dining, keeping his face neutral in order not to reveal anything to his friends.

He ignored Sandra’s killing glare, pretending like she didn’t even exist.

Ms. Bridget was currently nowhere to be seen, probably off doing some other chores.

"Well, I’m happy to announce that we are officially-"

"Alex," Andrew suddenly called from the door.

Everyone turned towards the entrance, staring at Andrew who seemed a little off.

"Yes, beta," Alex replied.

"I need to speak with you," Andrew said and remained standing by the door.

"Go ahead, I’ll tell them," Audrey gave him a slight push.

Alex nodded and walked towards the entrance.

"Tell me already!" Maria stood and walked over to Audrey, gripping Audrey’s arm.

"Chill, we’re just friends," Audrey shrugged Maria’s hands away from her arm.

Maria pouted and slowly walked back to her seat.

"Wheew! That’s a relief," Sandra almost slid down her chair from the relief.

"I thought we were about to lose a friend. But, for real, are you okay with him?" Sandra asked worriedly.

"Don’t worry, Sandy, I have a lot on my plate to let such a little thing bother me. I just have to find a way to let Maya know we can’t work out because I already have someone, also, she’s my niece," Audrey shrugged.

"Yeah... Wait, what!" Sandra gripped the handle of the chair tightly to keep herself from falling.

"Yeah, what!" Maria asked in a low voice.

"Yeah, she kissed my cheek, right in front of him," Audrey said.

"Him? As in, Alpha Lake?" Maria asked.

"Mhmm," Audrey nodded.

"Shit, more reason for him to be pissed," Sandra sighed.

In Andrew’s room, Alex sat on the bed, quietly tapping his feet on the floor as Andrew moved around his room, getting glasses and wine from his small cabinet.

"Here," He handed Alex a glass of wine, as he now stood in front of him.

"Um, I’m sorry, you know I’m not a high-ranking wolf like you," Alex slowly shook his head, refusing the gold-rimmed wine Andrew was offering him.

"Are you refusing your beta?" Andrew asked with a slight frown, staring down hard at Alex.

"No," Alex sighed and took the glass from Andrew’s hand, not taking it up to his lips. He knew what could happen to him if he dared to.

"Good," Andrew said, lowering himself beside Alex.

Alex suddenly shifted to put some distance between him and Andrew.

"I heard you," Andrew said mysteriously, sipping his wine.

"Huh? You heard what?" Alex asked, looking beside him to view Andrew’s emotionless face.

He’d never seen Andrew this way, he’d seen him looking serious all the time, but, never this detached.

He wondered what it was that was capable of making the always unfazed beta look this worried.

"You and Audrey," Andrew said, downing his wine.

"Oh?" Alex bit his lips.

He’s always known that Andrew and Alpha Sebastian had feelings for Audrey too, he never just thought any of them would confront him because he confessed his feelings for her.

What was it to Andrew if he confessed first? He wasn’t the one who told him never to let Audrey know how he felt about her.

"Oh?" Andrew asked, tilting his head to one side as he regarded Alex with a deep frown.

Was that all he had to tell him? Oh?

Andrew’s anger increased as he kept staring at Alex who was busy rubbing his thumb on the body of his glass.

"What do you want me to say? It’s none of your business if I confessed to Audrey, I didn’t tell you not to do it when you had the chance- hey!" Alex braced his hands on Andrew’s chest as Andrew suddenly dragged him across to himself, causing his wine glass to fall off his hand and shatter onto the floor, spilling the content.

"You’re really clueless, huh? Or, just good at pretending?" Andrew asked, a breath away from Alex’s face.

Alex frowned hard, he felt like Andrew was angry over a totally different reason, but he couldn’t think of anything he’d done that could make him look that mad.

"Let me go, beta, I don’t think I understand what you’re saying," Alex pushed against his chest, but Andrew wouldn’t just budge.

"You’re a disgrace to men, stumping on your pride to confess to a girl who you knew would reject you from the beginning," Andrew said sinisterly.

Alex frowned, he wasn’t sure the if the person in front of him was the reserved beta hes known since forever, but he didn’t care anymore, he wasn’t the type to sit back and watch people insult him.

Alex scoffed and stared angrily into Andrew’s brown eyes.

"At least, I’m not a coward like you who couldn’t tell someone how you felt about them," He gathered his strength and pushed Andrew away when he was busy staring strangely at him.

Andrew didn’t say anything, he just sat on his bed, looking at Alex as he walked away.

"Oh, and beta?" Alex paused as he reached the door, turning to look at the quiet beta who sat solemnly on his bed.

Andrew still didn’t say anything, just kept staring at Alex.

"Fuck you," Alex gave him the middle finger and loudly slammed the door shut as he left Andrew’s room.

Andrew sighed. He wished for tomorrow to come by quickly, he wanted to be sure of what he felt before he took any action.
