Chapter 78: Elena is her mother

"No way," Sandra said in utter disbelief.

"What do you mean?" Maya gently removed her hands from Audrey’s.

"What witch?" Lawrence asked, staring scrutinizingly at his cousin.

"Follow me, now," Audrey commanded.

Lawrence was surprised to see this side of Audrey, he felt intimidated by her three-sixty-degree personality change.

This wasn’t the easy-going human girl he met earlier that day.

Maya felt compelled by Audrey’s command, and she followed her immediately, feeling the urge to do everything she said.

Sandra and Lawrence awkwardly followed them behind, maintaining some space between them.

"Hey, why my house?" Sandra whispered as she slowly unlocked the door.

"Be fast," Audrey urged.

She took them to Sandra’s house because she was sure no one would hear what they were about to discuss from there. Sandra lived quite far away from the Packhouse.

Sandra unlocked the door and let them go in before she did.

She didn’t know how to feel seeing her ex-mate enter her home.

She felt sad.

Lawrence slowly walked into the feminine-looking room, and immediately noted that it was a two-bedroom flat.

He deeply inhaled. Sandra’s strawberry scent was in every molecule of air in that house and he couldn’t just get enough of it.

He wondered how it would feel to sniff that scent right from the source, and he wasn’t talking about her neck...

Sandra felt Lawrence’s gaze following her as she went into her kitchen to get some water for her guests.

"Sit, Maya," Audrey pointed her to the small blue sofa in the living room.

She went ahead and sat on the chair near the sofa, leaving the remaining space on the sofa for Lawrence who was still busy following Sandra up and down with his gaze.

"Ahem," Audrey loudly cleared her throat to get his attention.

"Make yourself comfortable," Audrey said with a knowing smile.

Lawrence felt disturbed by the kind of knowing look Audrey was giving him; like she knew something, but he brushed it aside and went over to the sofa to sit beside his cousin.

"Here, some water," Sandra came and dropped a tray with three glasses of water on the small center table.

"Thank you," Maya said and took a glass of water, gulping the content down in a go.

She was kind of nervous about what Audrey had just announced a few minutes ago.

Lawrence just kept looking at Sandra like she was the only visible person in that room.

"Where you sent by her?" Audrey suddenly asked, getting the attention of everyone in the room.

"Sent by who?" Maya asked, looking at Lawrence for answers.

"Don’t look at me, I don’t know either," Lawrence shook his head at her.

Maya sighed and looked at Audrey.

"I really don’t know who or what you’re talking about," Maya slowly shrugged her shoulders.

Sandra quickly went to the kitchen and returned immediately with a stool, not wanting to miss any information about Maya.

Lawrence saw Sandra placing the stool near Audrey and almost stood up to tell her to sit on the sofa while he sat on the stool, but he held back, he knew she wouldn’t agree, he could feel her anger for him from miles away.

"This is going to be harder than I thought," Audrey rubbed her forehead with her fingers to calm herself down.

Audrey was about to say something when the door suddenly opened.

Everyone turned towards the door to see who it was, well, only Lawrence and Maya didn’t know who the person was.

Alex slowly closed the door while his head was curiously turned to the back, staring at Lawrence and Maya and imagining what they were doing there.

"Sandy, who are they?" He asked as he approached them.

He knew no one had said anything about Sandra’s rejection, so he was playing it cool as if he knew nothing about the new guest.

"Hey, Alex. This is Lawrence and Maya. They’re cousins, and they’re here for the full moon ceremony," Sandra introduced.

"And this is my friend and housemate, Alex," Sandra said to her guests.

"Roommate?!" Lawrence didn’t know when he raised his voice in question, causing everyone to look at him weirdly.

"Yes, Lawrence, got an issue with that?" Alex approached Lawrence challengingly.

Maya secretly nudged Lawrence by the side, "Behave," She whispered.

Lawrence immediately calmed himself down, he remembered he had no right to be jealous.

"I’m sorry, I was just excited to make a new friend. Nice meeting you," He stood up and offered Alex a handshake.

Alex looked at Sandra for approval, and only when she gave him a small nod did he reluctantly shake Lawrence’s hand.

"Nice meeting you," Alex said indifferently and withdrew his hand.

Lawrence lowered himself on the sofa, gritting his teeth in frustration.

Millions of thoughts ran through his mind, he couldn’t help but imagine what Alex and Sandra used to do when they were alone in this apartment.

"What’s happening," Alex asked, bringing another chair to sit on the other side of Audrey’s chair.

"She’s a dark witch," Sandra said, pointing at Maya.

"I’m not," Maya refuted.

"But, she just said so," Sandra said pointing at Audrey.

"I don’t know anything about-"

"Enough," Audrey interjected.

Alex could only look from Sandra to Maya, then from Maya to Sandra.

"Things just keep getting more interesting," Alex said.

He turned to Audrey and sighed. He wished there was some way he would make all her troubles disappear.

She looked so tired, and yet so beautiful. He couldn’t help staring at the way her skin glowed from the sunlight streaming through the window and the way her hair lusciously flowed down to her waist.

"Did you hear me?" Audrey snapped her fingers in front of Alex’s eyes, snapping him out of his dreams.

"Huh? Oh, I’m sorry, what was that?" Alex asked, scratching the back of his ear in embarrassment.

"I said, good you’re here, you’ll discover everything with us," Audrey said.

"Oh, yeah, sure," Alex hadn’t still recovered from being caught red-handed staring at Audrey. He heard Alex scoff but chose to ignore him.

"Maya, you can read people’s minds?" Audrey asked.

Maya pondered for a while before replying, "Not everyone. I think whatever it is that lives inside me chooses who it wants to read their mind, and when it does, it doesn’t even read anything meaningful, just things like their names and what they were currently thinking," Maya explained seriously.

Lawrence stared unbelievably at Maya. He had no idea she could do such a thing, he narrowed his eyes at her, remembering all the body contact he’d made with her and wondering how much of his thoughts she had read all these years.

"Don’t be looking at me like that, whatever is in me wants nothing to do with your crazy thoughts," Maya rolled her eyes at Lawrence.

"So, you’re saying, it only reads people’s minds when it feels the need to learn information about them?" Audrey questioned further.

She already had an idea of what was happening but she just needed to hear everything so she could get a clearer picture about everything.

"Yes, and..." Maya paused, staring at everyone in the room like she was scared to say what she wanted to say.

"Feel free Maya, we’re all friends," Audrey encouraged, her tone sedative.

Maya sighed and locked her fingers together anxiously.

"Because I haven’t learned how to control this power and use it to great lengths, I don’t read anything meaningful from people. And each time I fail to get it the information it needs, I hear this voice in my head urging me to do evil things," Maya said, locking her eyes on Audrey.

"And... I’ve done evil things. " Maya confessed.

"Damn," Lawrence said, looking at his cousin in a new light.

Sandra and Alex could be seen looking warily at Maya as they sensed a shift in her demeanor.

"What does it say, Maya? What’s the voice telling you to do?" Audrey asked calmly.

"Kill," Maya said, not removing her eyes from Audrey.

"Good," Audrey stood and started to approach Maya.

"Don’t!," Alex held Audrey back by the wrist, "She’s not looking herself right now," Alex said, worried.

"It’s fine," Audrey said and removed her hand from Alex’s, continuing on her path to Maya.

"Answer me, Maya, is that the only command it gives you?" Audrey slowly approached her and placed her hand on her shoulder.

"No, this is the first time it’s asked me to kill. This command is only for you," Maya said uncomfortably, trying to shift away from Audrey’s hold.

"It makes sense," Audrey replied calmly and suddenly placed her two hands beside Maya’s head.

"Argh!!!" Maya screamed so loud but remained seated in her position like she couldn’t even leave or move even if she wanted to.

"Sleep," Audrey whispered in a very calm and serene voice.

Maya instantly and limblessly slumped against the sofa, leaving everyone in awe and somewhat fearful.

"Fuck," Lawrence muttered, staring at Audrey as if she had suddenly grown ten heads.

"You’re not entirely human," Lawrence said in awe.

"Surprise," Audrey said unanimatedly before returning to her seat.

Sandra and Alex just stared at her open-mouthed. They didn’t think their friend was capable of knocking someone out without literally knocking the person out.

"Wow!" Sandra said, mesmerized.

"You’re awesome," Alex muttered.

"Elena is her mother," Audrey announced.

"What!" Sandra and Alex asked at the same time.
