Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 77: The strange girl is a dark witch
Alpha Lake paused in the middle of the hospital hallway and looked back at Audrey and Sandra.
He always got the feeling that Sandra and Alex were way too free with Catherine(Audrey) for someone they’d just met, even if she looked like their lost friend, he didn’t think it was reason enough for them to act too freely with her, exactly the way they did with Audrey.
Thinking about it, even Ms. Bridget treated her the same way she used to treat Audrey, and the fact that she also called her Audrey wasn’t helping his confused mind.
He stared hard at Audrey’s retreating figure, sure enough, there were slight differences in her; the physique, the hair, the gait, the strength, and her personality. But the voice sounded the same.
If it weren’t for the face and her eyes that were exactly like Audrey’s, he wouldn’t have been having this turmoil within him. He would just conclude that it wasn’t her.
But he couldn’t do anything to prove that she was Audrey, he couldn’t possibly use the fact that their food tasted the same to judge her.
He sighed and looked away from them, he only hoped he would find the answers before the full moon.
"A-alpha," A voice called beside him.
He turned around to find a short girl in scrubs.
"Julie?" Alpha Lake asked the scared girl who looked like she’d been forced to walk up to him.
"Adeline’s been a-asking f-for y-you," Julie stammered.
"Okay, you can go," Alpha Lake dismissed her, he knew she wasn’t comfortable around him.
He sighed and walked into the ward.
Adeline immediately sat up in bed as she saw Alpha Lake approach her bed.
"Alpha, you came?" Adeline asked, excited that he finally came to see her alone.
"How are you feeling, Adeline?" Alpha Lake asked.
He knew she was the one who brought her condition upon herself, but he was still responsible for her as the Alpha king and as the Alpha of the Pack in which she presently resided.
"I’m fine, just a little headache," Adeline replied.
"Good. Rest for today, you can go home tomorrow," Alpha Lake said and turned to leave.
"Alpha!" Adeline held his arm but immediately released it when she saw he had stopped.
"What is it, Adeline?" He asked patiently.
This morning, he had come to realize that Adeline wasn’t as soft and kind as he thought she was. He also found out that she had feelings for him, feelings he was sure never going to reciprocate, considering the way she went about it. Even if she didn’t go about it the wrong way, he was never going to consider her.
He already had someone he wanted badly, he just needed some time to figure out how to deal with that person.
"I’m sorry for what happened earlier," Adeline said, putting her hair behind her ear.
"It was all my fault, I was just being jealous and-"
"It’s okay, Adeline, the most important thing is that you’re safe," Alpha Lake assured, patting her arm.
Adeline blushed as she saw him pat her arm, this was the first time he had ever initiated skin contact without her being the one to force it.
"Rest, and we’ll see how you are tomorrow," Alpha Lake said softly.
"Okay," Adeline replied reluctantly, she didn’t want him to leave just yet.
She watched as Alpha Lake left, without looking back.
"Good afternoon, Alpha," Adeline heard her father’s voice from the entrance of the ward.
She sighed and rolled her eyes, plumping back onto the bed. She didn’t want to see her father, he was going to remind her of how he kept warning her to steer clear of Audrey, she didn’t need the nagging now.
Audrey and Sandra sat in the kitchen, a bowl of garlic parmesan kale pasta in front of them. None of them talked as they ate as they’d had a long day and wanted to fill their tummy first before any gossip.
*Cough* "Water," *Cough* Sandra stretched out her hand to Ms. Bridget as she choked from stuffing her mouth with too much food.
"Easy, child, the food is not running away," Ms. Bridget cautioned as she gave Sandra a glass of water.
"Ah, thank you," Sandra said, wiping the side of her mouth.
"The food isn’t running, but this girl right here will sure make the food disappear," Sandra pointed at Audrey who had her head bent over the bowl of food they shared.
Ms. Bridget chuckled, "She’s sure famished," She smiled and went to get another serving to add to them.
"Hey, you witch! Leave some for me!" Sandra quickly dove in, not waiting for Audrey to finish the whole food.
"So, you think he’s almost finding you out?" Sandra asked as they walked down the garden near the vineyard where they used to work.
"Yes, he was so specific about his observations, if I didn’t stand my ground, he would have uncovered me by now," Audrey said as she picked up a sunflower.
"Damn, I don’t think you have much time left, Audrey," Sandra paused her lips, thinking about how she would be able to help Audrey.
"I know," Audrey sighed resignedly.
She only hoped the Moon goddess would help her out by leading her to find the amulet.
"Oh my god!" Sandra suddenly went to hide behind Audrey.
"What’s the matter, Sandy?" Audrey asked, not trying to move away just in case Sandra was really hiding away from someone.
"Twelve O’clock," Sandra whispered.
Audrey looked ahead and saw Lawrence with that same girl who was with him in the field earlier that day.
She wondered why they seemed so strange to her, she’d never heard her talk, and it made her wonder if she was mute.
"Oh, I see. Want to go say hi?" She asked Sandra, slowly stepping away so Sandra would be seen by Lawrence.
Sandra looked at her like she’s gone crazy, "No way, that’s the last thing ill-"
"Hey, Lawrence!" Before Sandra could finish saying what she wanted, Audrey was already waving at Lawrence, a bright smile on her face.
"Hey, Cathy, taking a walk?" Lawrence asked as he approached Audrey and Sandra.
Audrey didn’t miss the shock and longing in his eyes as he stared at Sandra before he quickly masked it, wrapping his hands closer around the girl’s shoulder.
Audrey secretly scoffed, she already knew by just looking at them that they were not in any form of romantic relationship. He was just using the girl as a cover-up for his feelings.
"Yeah, me and friend, Sandra," Audrey hooked her arms around Sandra, silently giving her support as she seemed to have frozen in place with the presence of her mate.
"Sandra, this is my new friend, Lawrence, Lawrence, this is my best friend, Sandra," Audrey introduced them to each other.
She wouldn’t have done this if she hadn’t seen how much Lawrence regretted his actions, he missed Sandra so much, but she didn’t know why he was holding back.
She knew how it felt to not be able to hold your mate when you wanted to, and she didn’t want her friend to keep experiencing such pain.
Sandra froze as Audrey introduced her to Lawrence, this was the last scene she ever expected to play out today. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
How dare she betray her like this?!
"Hello, Sandra," Lawrence unhooked his arm from the silent girl beside him and offered Sandra a handshake.
Audrey secretly nudged Sandra to shake Lawrence’s outstretched hand when she saw she was still frozen to react.
"Um, hi, Lawrence," Sandra replied softly and shyly as she placed her smaller hand in his much bigger one.
Audrey could feel the chemistry fly between them as they unconsciously got lost in staring at each other.
"So," Audrey subtly removed Sandra’s hand from his own, causing him to clear his throat in embarrassment.
"You have a very beautiful girlfriend," Audrey said, looking at the pretty girl beside Lawrence.
Sandra felt a knife pierce her heart at Audrey’s words. She started to wonder if she really made the right choice by believing that the girl beside her was truly her lost friend, Audrey, or if she was just another imposter who was just too good at her job.
Because she knew the real Audrey would never put her in this kind of compromising situation.
"No! No, she’s not my girlfriend," Lawrence hurriedly explained, locking his gaze at Sandra as he did, almost like he was desperately trying to explain to his girlfriend that he wasn’t cheating on her.
"Oh?" Audrey asked further.
"No, I’m not, I’m sorry if I caused any misunderstanding," The girl’s voice was so soft like the evening breeze that they almost missed her words.
"Yeah, she’s my cousin, we came together for the full moon event," Lawrence said again, looking at Sandra who was busy looking far away like what they were discussing didn’t concern her.
But, she was now grateful to Audrey for asking, she understood that Audrey wanted her to hear it for herself.
She felt kind of relieved but it lasted for a second because when she remembered how he had rejected her during the last full moon, her heart broke all over again.
"Oh, okay, that makes sense," Audrey replied.
"What’s your name, pretty girl?" Audrey asked the girl beside Lawrence.
"I’m Maya," Maya replied, offering Audrey a handshake.
"Welcome to our Pack, Maya," Audrey said politely as she shook Maya’s hand.
"Thank you, Audrey," Maya replied with a smile.
Audrey and Sandra immediately turned and looked at each other, astonished.
"No way!" Sandra muttered.
"Give me your hand again," Audrey said.
While shaking Maya, she didn’t bother to read her mind or see her anything about her past or future thinking she was just a random normal girl, but right now, she was so curious to find out who the hell she was.
Maya obediently offered Audrey her hand and this time, Audrey called it a duty to know everything about her.
Audrey closed her eyes and closed her hand around Maya’s.
The breeze started to pick speed as Audrey closed her eyes, causing everyone to close their eyes from the rising dust. It was like an unknown force commanded the leaves that lay on the floor as they followed the wind in a wavelike manner, forming a circle around the four friends.
After five seconds, Audrey opened her eyes, disbelief written all over her face.
"She’s a dark witch," Audrey announced in utter disbelief.
