Chapter 76: You’re anything but human

Catherine stared blankly at him for some time, trying to figure out how she would answer him, for him to have a hunch about her not being entirely human meant he was almost close to finding out she was a witch. It left alarm bells going off in her head. But she knew for a fact that he hadn’t discovered that she was a wolf, she did a good job of masking her scent.

She needed to be very careful in what she said now, to avoid unconsciously revealing herself to him.

"Wow, sorry I’m taking time to reply, but, that’s a first for me, no one has ever asked me that before. What kind of creature am I? Pfft! Ha-ha-ha!" Audrey laughed out loud to cover her nervousness.

"Catherine," Alpha Lake gently turned her towards him.

"Please," He said softly, taking her hands in his, "I need to know that I’m not going crazy by imagining these kinds of things, please," He lightly squeezed her hand in his.

"I’ve told you, I’m just a hum-"

"You’re anything but human, Catherine," Alpha Lake sighed and stood from the branch.

He slowly walked to and fro, running his hands through his hair. He wasn’t going to lie to himself, there were times when he got the feeling that Audrey was a werewolf, especially after she fought him in the field, he was almost sure she had a wolf, but he quickly discarded the idea because he couldn’t sense one in her.

But seeing her gulp down his Gold-rimmed wine without it having any effects on her brought the thought back to his head. Only very strong wolves were able to stand the effect of that wine, but seeing Audrey down it like it was a cup of a refreshing soda drink made him question everything all over again.

"I am human, Lake. I don’t know what else you want me to be," Audrey replied and also stood from the branch, walking away from the tree and going to the next one.

Alpha Lake followed her over to the next tree and stood In front of her "You’re not."

"I feel it, I’m not an Alpha for nothing, Catherine, my instincts are never wrong," He said as he slowly walked up to her.

Audrey slowly moved away from him, until her back hit the tree, then she was forced to look up at his face.

"Then, what do you think I am?" Audrey asked, tilting her head to the side.

"That’s why I’m asking Kitten, ’cause I want to figure it out. How about you start by telling me why you have incredible strength?" He gently tucked her hair behind her back.

"Well, they say practice makes perfect,"

"Nonsense," He shook his head at her.

"How about you try answering that again? Because most times, it feels like you’re holding back on unleashing all your strength and I feel it might be disastrous if you do. Please, just tell me," Alpha Lake put his hand behind her neck and gently massaged it with his fingers.

Audrey was almost running out of things to say to him, why was he so inquisitive all of a sudden?

"I don’t know what to say to you anymore, Lake," Audrey gave him a gentle shrug.

"Don’t say my name... Now is not the right time to turn me on," Alpha Lake gritted his teeth in frustration.

"Oh, ah... Hearing people call you by your name is a turn-on for you?" Audrey asked, wearing a mischievous look on her face.

Maybe she’ll just use it to divert his attention from all these questions.

"No," He shook his head, "Just you," He brought up his hand to her face, caressing her lips with his thumb.

Audrey smiled up at him.

’Good then,’ She thought to herself. It meant she possessed the full power to weaken him with just a call of his name.

"La-"

"I dare you to say it," He held her jaw between his thumb and index finger, "Say it, Kitten, I dare you, I’ll fuck you hard and fast till you can’t walk," He said in a deep and sexy voice.

Audrey gulped, swallowing the words in her mouth. She’d rather let him question her all day than what he had just proposed, even though it left her panties soaking wet, but she knew this wasn’t the time yet.

"Oh, no," Audrey replied softly.

"Good, come," He took her hand and led her towards the stream.

"Where are we going," Audrey asked as she saw him leading them to the stream.

"Bath," He replied.

"Um, no, how about we just sit by the bank?" Audrey asked.

She didn’t trust herself with getting naked in front of him at the moment.

Alpha Lake turned and stared at her for a while before replying, "Okay."

He nodded and led her near the stream.

They lowered themselves beside it and dipped their legs into the flowing water.

"Catherine," Alpha Lake called.

"Yes," Audrey answered, picking up a weird-looking stone from the ground and playing with it in her hands.

"I believe you’re a kind of a creature that hasn’t been discovered yet, you look human but not human," He said, looking ahead to the other side of the stream.

"You think?" Audrey turned her head to him and stared at his side profile.

She was kind of impressed by his perception, he wasn’t at all wrong in his observations.

"You don’t get drunk from my wine, humans would be unconscious on the first sip, but you do just fine after drinking a whole bottle. I can’t scent you, it’s like you’re consciously masking it. And, I can’t scent your arousal, each time we make out, I scent no single smell of arousal from you," Alpha Lake turned and carefully watched her face, "Or could it be that I don’t turn you on, Kitten?" He held her gaze, trying to figure out the answers from her eyes.

Audrey couldn’t lie about this one, even if she could, she didn’t want to.

"I don’t know why I can’t get high from your wine, maybe it works differently in certain humans, but for your last question..." Audrey took his hand and placed it on her breast, tracing his thumb over her hard nipple.

"You’re quite naughty, Kitten," Alpha Lake leaned over and whispered in her ear, and before she knew it, he suddenly pulled up her sports bra and sucked one nipple into his mouth, fondling and rubbing the other one with his thumb and index finger.

"Ah, no-night," Audrey could not come up with a tangible word as she felt his moist tongue flick and lick her nipple while his hand fondled her other breast, tugging and tweaking her nipple.

Alpha Lake was slowly losing it as he heard her sexy moans, he gently lowered her to the soft grass, climbing on top of her without removing his mouth and hand from her breasts.

Audrey was starting to feel herself drown in the sweet feeling of his tongue on her nipple, she brought her hands up to the sides of his face and held his head steady, not wanting him to stop.

Alpha Lake put his hand between them and subtly slid it under her leggings.

"N-no... Don’t," Audrey quickly snapped out of her euphoria and held his hand that was traveling down her pussy.

Alpha Lake paused, he moved up from her chest, placed his elbows beside her head, and looked into her eyes.

"That’s it," He rolled off of her and sat on the grass.

Audrey pulled down her sports bra and she copied his position.

"Hey-"

"This is the farthest you let me go. I don’t turn you on enough. I always feel like I’m the only one going crazy with the need to mate you..." He paused, staring into the distance.

Audrey felt her wolf perk its ear up as it heard Alpha Lake talk about wanting to mate her.

"What did you say?" Audrey asked slowly, wanting to make sure she heard him right and wasn’t imagining things.

"Come on, Catherine, let’s head back," He stood up and offered her his hand.

Audrey noticed he wasn’t even looking at her as he helped her up. He looked hurt, and he was well within his right to feel hurt, she did give him the green light but always stopped him when he wanted to go further.

She sighed as he started walking ahead without sparing her a glance, but he didn’t forget to hold her hands just the way he did when they were coming.

Alpha Lake was hurt. He kept thinking about the reasons why Audrey couldn’t find him good enough to settle with him. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

He decided he was going to let her be from now on, he didn’t want to keep making a fool out of himself, he wanted her even when he didn’t fully know her, and he was willing to accept her with all the mysteries surrounding her, but it seemed like she wasn’t ready to open up to him, he had tried many approaches with her but none seemed to be working.

Audrey was in deep thought and didn’t realize when they reached the Pack hospital. She was still planning on what to say to Alpha Lake when she felt her hand released from his warm hold.

"Go ahead, I’ll check on Adeline," Alpha Lake told her, immediately turning and entering the hospital.

"Catherine, oh! I’m sorry, Alpha," Sandra was excitedly running out of the hospital when she suddenly bumped into the Alpha.

She moved out of the way to let him through the door, feeling embarrassed.

Alpha Lake didn’t spare her a glance as he strode through the door.

Audrey stood in front of the hospital, not knowing the kind of feeling she felt in her heart as she watched he’d Alpha Lake walk away from her without so much as a glance at her.

She knew something had changed in him, something that had to do with the way he thought about her, but she couldn’t point it out yet.

"Hey, you!" Sandra suddenly jumped on Audrey’s back, almost pushing her down to the ground.

"Get off me, Sandra!" Audrey frowned at Sandra who was stubbornly hugging her like a koala.

"No! You, Missy, have a lot of things to explain," Sandra whispered into Audrey’s ear.
