Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 73: Not ordinary
"Catherine?!" Alpha Lake called out the moment he entered Caleb’s office.
The tension and worry in his voice were so obvious; his eyes automatically glued to Audrey as he entered the room.
He marched forward and gently held Audrey’s supposed injured hand.
"Your hand..." He was stupified for a second.
With everything that had happened that morning, his thoughts were too scattered to remember that his Pack now had a witch healer.
"I healed her, Alpha," Maria said, standing closer to her mate.
She couldn’t still believe that the Alpha would easily let her be with her mate.
"Oh," Alpha Lake replied.
His brain was still finding it hard to process the whole situation.
"You’re... Alright?" He used his other hand to run through Audrey’s smooth hand before he came to realize that she had truly been healed.
He was worried sick for a second.
He thought about the pain Audrey had to endure for months till her wound healed, forgetting that they now had a healer, good thing he decided to let the witch stay, she’s proved to be of good use.
"Yes, I’m fine, now kindly let go, please," Audrey said, softly tapping Alpha Lake’s hand.
"Okay," He replied softly and released her hand.
He knew they had a little misunderstanding earlier and she was probably still angry at him for that.
Caleb just kept staring and staring. He didn’t understand all that was happening in his office that morning.
First, Maria asks Audrey to heal herself, Second, their mighty Alpha was outrightly sulking in front of Audrey.
It was unheard of, and if he ever told it to anyone else, he was sure they’d imprison him for defaming their Alpha.
"Doctor Caleb! Doctor Caleb!" A female voice called urgently outside the office.
"Hang on!" Caleb quickly rushed into the room Maria had been previously hidden and rushed out with some instruments and injections.
"I’ll be right back," He quickly pecked Maria’s lips and dashed out of his office.
"You should go to her. I’m fine," Audrey stepped away from Alpha Lake and stood beside Maria.
Alpha Lake knew he needed to be there as an Alpha to see the extent of Adeline’s injury, but the way Audrey said it sounded as if he was going there as a lover.
"Come with me?" He asked cautiously.
*Scoff*
Audrey scoffed and gave him the ’you must be kidding’ look
He understood by now that Audrey and Adeline weren’t best of friends and it made sense if Audrey didn’t care about her.
But he wasn’t asking her to come because of Adeline.
He just wanted her beside him.
"I don’t want to be a third wheel, go pamper your princess before she gives up the ghost from your absence," Audrey mocked.
"It’s not what you think, Catherine," Alpha Lake sighed and moved toward Audrey.
"Stop!" Audrey raised her hand before her, stopping him from reaching her.
"It doesn’t matter what I think. As long as you’re happy with her, that’s all that matters," Audrey said dramatically.
"Can you just listen, Catherine!" Alpha Lake raised his voice.
He was frustrated with Audrey’s misunderstanding of him. He had been restless since yesterday night after seeing those messages from Mr. Russell, not because he felt threatened by them, but because he felt like a knife was driven through his heart when he thought about how Audrey planned to betray him.
He had thought that maybe after all these times they’d spent together, she would have a change of heart and not carry on with her mission anymore.
He was just feeling lost.
And the incident with Lawrence at the field created more friction in their relationship.
"I-"
"Alpha! Adeline’s case is quite severe," Caleb urgently interrupted what Alpha Lake was about to say.
He looked at Audrey’s aloof face for a long while before he turned and started walking out.
"What was that about, Audrey?" Maria asked when it was just the both of them in the room.
"I don’t even know, but anything to keep him away from me. Hey! Don’t try to wave your crime!" Audrey suddenly pointed at Maria, diverting the attention away from herself.
"Me?! What crime?!" Maria innocently asked, pointing at herself to make the emphasis.
"Honestly, didn’t you think it’ll be wise of you to tell her when you left?" Audrey sighed.
She knew how worried her aunt must be and she didn’t blame her, her child who is a witch suddenly ventured into the werewolves’ territory where they killed witches on sight.
She’d be worried too.
Maria sighed and plopped down on the chair in front of Caleb’s table.
"Yeah, I know I’m wrong. But I thought you were in real danger, and I rushed here to come to warn you and help you in the best way I can," Maria explained.
Audrey’s heart melted at Maria’s words. In the end, she did all these for her.
She watched Maria as she seemed lost in deep thought. She sighed and walked over to her.
"Hey, it’s okay, we’ll get through this together, and I’m sorry for dragging you all into my problem," Audrey patted Maria’s cheek.
"Don’t say that," Maria held Audrey’s hand that was patting her cheek, she looked up and stared directly into Audrey’s green eyes.
"We are here because of you, because you existed, and still exist. And I’m so privileged to be one of your descendants, whatever we do, we do because we honor you," Maria said with all seriousness.
Audrey felt emotional hearing Maria speak, all her stress and anger melted away like butter.
"Aww," She bent over and hugged Maria.
"Thank you for coming to me, Cuz, it’s been so lonely," Audrey said softly over Maria’s shoulder.
"Anything for you, great one," Maria chuckled.
"No! Not that name please!" Audrey groaned and stepped away from Maria.
She knew Maria would ruin the sweet moment, it was in her nature to do so.
"Ha-ha-ha! Why? But you’re the great-"
"Follow me, Witch," Alpha Lake opened the door and commanded Maria.
Audrey wasn’t surprised to see him back so shortly, she knew exactly why he needed Maria.
"Um-"
"What do need her for?" Audrey asked as she saw that Maria didn’t know what to say.
They both shared a knowing look, they didn’t need anyone to tell them that he was here because of Adeline. And Audrey knew that Maria didn’t want to heal Adeline.
"Are you questioning your Alpha?" He stepped challengingly towards Audrey.
Audrey wanted to refute and say that he wasn’t her Alpha as she always did, but she didn’t.
She couldn’t, because she had just won the challenge of acceptance and automatically became a member of the Pack. So, technically, he was her Alpha.
"No, Alpha, I just wanted to know if it’s something I could help with," Audrey replied, avoiding looking into his mysterious grey eyes.
"Good, then follow me. Both of you," He said and walked away.
Audrey rolled her eyes as he left the office.
"Come on, it’s just a tiny injury, don’t know why they’re making a fuss," Audrey said and dragged Maria off the chair.
"You sure?" Maria asked skeptically as she followed Audrey out of the office.
If it was just a small injury then Caleb wouldn’t have looked so pale as he did when he came to call the Alpha.
"Yeah, but hey," Audrey dragged Maria to a stop when they reached in front of the emergency room.
"What?" Maria asked lowly.
"Well, you know it’s Adeline, so..." Audrey trailed off.
"Ooh, I get you. Don’t worry, leave it to me. She’ll never dream of crossing you again, trust me," Maria smiled mischievously.
Audrey returned the smile and led Maria into the emergency room.
"Babe, over here," Caleb called the moment Maria entered the room.
Audrey walked towards him, taking note of the other patients lying quietly on the bed with infusion inserted in their arms.
They reached Adeline’s bed area and saw Alpha Lake standing beside the bed.
Caleb was holding a folder in his hand and a stethoscope around his neck.
The brown wolf on the bed was constantly whimpering and when Audrey took a closer look, she saw a bone sticking out of her hind limb.
Like a force of gravity, her face was drawn to look at Alpha Lake, and as suspected, he was looking at her, his eyes silently questioning how she got the strength to easily break a wolf’s bone in two.
Alpha Lake had a lot of things he wanted to ask Audrey, but he hadn’t got the chance, at this point, something in him convinced him that Audrey wasn’t just an ordinary human, his instincts as an Alpha wolf told him so, and it’s never been wrong.
He started thinking that maybe Audrey was a type of creature that had never been discovered. He believed the creature didn’t have to change into an animal like they did, and he was sure she wasn’t a vampire because she walked freely under the sun.
Maybe she was a type of creature that looked human but possessed incredible strength.
That was the only explanation he could come up with because, for the past months, she’s been by his side, she’s done things that questioned her humanity. Like drinking his wine without having any symptoms, almost beating him in a fight, the strange feeling he gets anytime she’s around him, and now, she’s easily broken a wolf’s bone.
For a normal human, it was supposed to be impossible.
Something told him she wasn’t ordinary.
