Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 67: Dining with the enemy
Audrey sat on a stool and watched Maria dish the food into the plates.
"So, the Adeline bitch set you up and is most likely crying her eyes out for the Alpha downstairs pretending she’s innocent?" Maria asked as she took out a silver tray for the above cabinet.
"Most definitely," Audrey shrugged.
"I hate her," Maria grunted.
"Same," Audrey replied.
"Then why are you letting her push you about? She’s not even worth calling a threat to you. Why indulging her?" Maria asked unbelievably.
She knew that Adeline was nothing to Audrey if she wanted to, there must be a reason as to why she’s not done anything to her yet. She was curious.
"Well, our dear Alpha believes she’s as innocent as a dove. I want to slowly uncover her villain nature to him," Audrey drummed her fingers on top of the table.
"I see, I’m not sure if I’ll have this much patience. If I were you, she’d be history by now, forgotten history" Maria scoffed.
Audrey just shook her head with a small smile on her lips. She knew Maria meant what she said. She didn’t have tolerance for bullshits.
"Here, help me carry this out," Maria dropped a plate of chicken taco salad in front of Audrey on the small table in the kitchen.
"Ask nicely," Audrey said in a petty tone.
"Please, could you help me carry the food you’re going to eat to the dining?" Maria said sarcastically.
"Yes, dear cousin. I will gladly help you by using the magic word," Audrey smiled cheekily and carried the plated out of the kitchen.
"How petty," Maria murmured.
"Heard that," Audrey said from the dining.
"Of course you will," Maria rolled her eyes.
They finished setting up the table and brought out Alpha Lake’s signature drink, patiently waiting for him to come before they could eat.
Maria’s heart was beating hard as she thought of the best way to tell him about her newfound mate. She didn’t know the type of reaction to be expecting from him, but she hoped it was something she could bear.
In fact, she could bear anything, as long as it didn’t come down to separating her from her mate. She’d never felt such a strong connection to anyone before as she did for Caleb; She fell hard for him the moment she set her eyes on him and she couldn’t think of a life where she lived without him. It would be meaningless.
"Hey, what’s wrong? You’ve been tapping your feet so hard on the floor for a long time," Audrey placed her palm on Maria’s lap to calm her down.
She knew something was seriously bothering her, she was always anxious each time she had something on her mind.
"Uh, nothing," Maria lied.
Audrey sighed, "Come on, you know I know we both know that you just lied," Audrey gently turned Maria so she was now facing her.
They were currently sitting on the sofa as they waited for the Alpha.
"Is it Caleb and Lake?" Audrey asked quietly as she tenderly stared into her cousin’s eyes.
Maria sighed quietly.
"Yes," She slowly nodded.
"Don’t worry about that, no one is going to separate you from your mate. Not on my watch, okay?" Audrey gently rubbed Maria’s cheek with her thumbs.
"Thank you," Maria sniffed.
She felt tears building in her eyes as Audrey became soft and loving with her, she was a softie and any little affection made her tear up.
"Come on, don’t cry, it’s okay. I’m here for you," Audrey gently hugged her, patting her back.
Maria smiled, feeling kind of relieved.
"He’s close," Audrey said.
They immediately stood up and went over to the dining and sat down. Maria felt out of place sitting there, but Audrey had insisted that she eat with them today.
Audrey and Maria stared at the door as they heard footsteps approaching.
They frowned simultaneously as the door opened. Their eyes were plastered on the figure that tailed behind Alpha Lake.
Adeline slowly followed Alpha Lake into his condo, her cheeks red and her eyes puffy like she had cried for a long time.
But, looking closely, they discovered that Alpha Lake looked like he was tired of Adeline’s act, it seemed like she was the one who followed him up here on her own accord.
Audrey and Maria shared a knowing look and a secret smirk. They knew just how to treat an unwanted guest.
"Good evening, Alpha," Maria stood and drew out a chair for Alpha Lake to sit on.
His eyes were locked on Audrey from the moment he walked into the room. He wondered what must be going through her mind seeing Adeline with him. She must be thinking he didn’t care about her and therefore didn’t see Adeline as a threat. to her life.
But he wouldn’t comment on that now. He had his ways of dealing with anyone who posed a threat to the people he loved. And if after his secret investigation, he discovers that Adeline is guilty, she would regret the day she came to know him. He didn’t care about her history.
"My chair," Adeline said behind Maria.
Maria was moving over to uncover the dishes when she heard a voice behind her.
She paused for a second and looked at Audrey.
"Did you hear something?" Maria asked Audrey with utter confusion.
Audrey furrowed her brows together and frowned deeply like she was seriously trying to remember if she heard a voice or not.
"Umm, no," She shook her head.
Maria scratched the back of her head in confusion.
"That’s weird," She shrugged and moved forward to serve Alpha Lake some food.
"I’m famished," Audrey said loudly.
"Here, Princes," Maria placed a plate full of scrumptious salad and grilled chicken in front of Audrey.
Adeline balled her fist as she saw how everyone ignored her like she existed. She loudly pulled out a chair and plumped down next to Alpha Lake.
Maria successfully ignored her and poured some wine into Alpha Lake’s fancy glass.
She wasn’t going to waste her time on some mannerless bitch who thought she could control whoever she wanted whenever and however she wanted.
If Alpha Lake wasn’t here right now, she would have brought the bitch down a peg or two.
"Don’t make trouble Adeline," Alpha Lake warned.
"Who is she?" Adeline asked, looking squarely at Maria.
She had thought Audrey was the only one allowed to book for the Alpha, and the only one she had to deal with, but now, some random chick was parading around the dining like she owned the place. Another person she had to find a way to eliminate too.
"Hi there, I’m the new cook around here, assigned only to serve the master and mistress of the house, not some unwanted guests," Maria spoke politely but Adeline knew there was nothing polite about the way she spoke to her.
"Then serve me," Adeline ordered.
"I’m sorry, dear, I don’t serve gold diggers," Maria said in the most sweetest voice ever.
"What-"
"Adeline!" Alpha Lake called sternly, cutting Maria off.
"But, Alpha?"
"Quiet!" Alpha Lake growled.
"Go, Adeline, go eat whatever you want from the Pack’s kitchen,"
Adeline grumpily stood up and walked out of the room.
They ate the rest of the dinner in silence.
"Maria," Alpha Lake called.
Maria who was standing a distance behind him walked forward immediately she heard her name.
"Yes, Alpha," Maria answered close to his chair.
Audrey anxiously sat up straight on her chair, her mind alert to what he was about to say.
"You’ve met with Caleb?" He asked in a dark tone.
Maria quickly sent Audrey a stranded look, silently asking for her help.
"Y-yes," Maria whispered.
"What’s your relationship with him?" He questioned.
"I-we-he, umm, I’m-" Maria was beyond flustered.
"Pack your things-"
"No! Please! I’ll do anything you ask of me, please don’t send me-"
"You don’t want to live with him?" Alpha Lake asked irritatedly.
"What?" Maria asked unbelievably.
She and Audrey shared a surprised look, they couldn’t believe what they’d just heard.
"Let’s talk, Catherine," Alpha Lake said directly to Audrey before he left the flabbergasted Maria and went up the stairs that led to his room.
"Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!" Maria jumped up and down like an excited kid.
"Did he just..." Audrey trailed off.
"Mm, I think he knows!" Maria squealed.
Audrey stood beside Maria wondering how Alpha Lake got to know about the information so quickly. No other person knew about this apart from her and her friends.
Did Sandra snitch?
"Quickly, go meet him before he changes his mind and asks me to leave the Pack, go! Go!" Maria literally pushed Audrey up the stairs.
She didn’t want anything that would make Alpha Lake change his mind on her case.
"Fine! I can walk on my own!" Audrey shrugged Maria’s hand off her shoulder when she reached the middle of the stairs.
"Bye! Hehe," Maria giggled and ran out of the house.
"Traitor," Audrey murmured.
She reached the Alpha’s door and raised her hand to knock, but before her hand could touch it, the door was suddenly pulled open and she was instantly dragged into the room.
Audrey was backed against the door in the blink of an eye, caged between two strong arms
"Your little witch got her happily ever after," He whispered hotly against Audrey’s exposed neck.
"How about we start ours now?" He licked across her neck, causing tingles to travel down her spine.
