Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 60: The Unexpected
"Follow me, and do not say a word to him," Audrey instructed.
Maria nodded and followed Audrey behind.
"Good afternoon, Sir," Audrey smiled sweetly at the man in front of her door.
She secretly inhaled his pine wood scent which seemed stronger after his shower. He looked yummy in his army-green body hug shirt and black pants, she shamelessly eyed him from hair to toe, reminiscing their time together in his bathroom.
"Catherine, he’s talking to you!" Maria whispered-yelled, poking Audrey’s back.
"Huh? Oh, um, sorry, I was just thinking about random stuff. What did you say?" Audrey said, flustered.
Alpha Lake knew Audrey was checking him out, after all; he was dressed to impress.
He gave her a knowing look, his dimple visible as he grinned at her. He loved how easily he could make her flustered, her cheeks were always another window to her soul, and they always gave her away as she blushed profusely.
"Bring your little witch friend downstairs," He said and started walking away.
"What happened? He was too hot for you to handle, right?" Maria teased from behind Audrey.
"Shut up," Audrey said without looking at Maria, she knew she would confirm her suspicions If she saw her red blushed cheeks.
"Yeah, deny it all you want, but I feel the chemistry between you two, you guys were practically eye-fucking each other," Maria said as they walked down the stairs.
"Hey, I suggest you keep quiet or I’ll give you back to him to do whatever he likes," Audrey turned around to face Maria, glaring at her.
"Aww, how cute," Maria pinched the tip of Audrey’s nose and slid away from her.
Audrey sighed helplessly, she hoped she wouldn’t die before she found the other half of the amulet. Temptations were coming her way with each new dawn.
"Sit," Alpha Lake pointed at the sofa in front of him.
Maria cautiously went over and lowered herself onto the sofa.
"Nah, Kitten, here," He patted the space beside him when Audrey wanted to go sit beside Maria.
Audrey didn’t want Maria to know what had happened between them, but it seems like he didn’t give a flying fuck if everyone knew about it.
Audrey reluctantly lowered herself beside him, leaving some space between them.
"Aww, kitten? Cute," Maria gushed.
Audrey cocked her head to the side and stared at Maria like she was insane.
What was she doing? How could she speak so freely In front of someone who declared their kind as an open enemy, held her hostage, and almost shot a gun to her head?!
Audrey concluded then and there that Maria was a lunatic. It had to be so. Every magic power comes with a price, and Maria had traded her sanity for that.
"Maria, right?" Alpha Lake asked, relaxing on the sofa and placing his hand on the backrest.
Audrey couldn’t read anything from his face, she couldn’t tell what he was thinking at the moment.
"Yes," Maria replied, raising her brows at Audrey.
Audrey sighed and plumped back onto the sofa in defeat. Heaven help those that help themselves indeed.
"So, you think we’re good together?" Alpha Lake asked, surprising both Audrey and Maria.
"Huh?! Ah, y-yes, perfect couple. I knew you were meant for each other when I saw you guys together in the forest," Maria said enthusiastically.
Audrey stared with her jaw to the ground, she looked from Alpha Lake to Maria in utter shock and disbelief.
Weren’t these people supposed to be enemies? Was this the help Maria said she’d come to help?
Audrey facepalmed, she couldn’t chastise Marai in front of him, he would see they were too close and start suspecting them.
"Did you hear that, Kitten?" Alpha Lake leaned over and said lowly to Audrey.
"Um, yeah, she’s a funny one, don’t you think? Maybe we should just let her go back to wherever she came from, don’t you agree?" Audrey smiled innocently at him and secretly sent Maria a deathly glare.
"No, she stays, kitten, you asked for this," He told her as he patted her thigh.
"Yay, thank you so much! I’m super grateful, Sir..." Maria paused.
She knew his name quite right, but she didn’t want to address him by either his title or his name, she didn’t want to seem closer to him and she didn’t want to acknowledge his title because she wasn’t a wolf and wasn’t planning to stay here forever.
She too had her grudge against the wolf community, they were the ones that sent them into hiding, and she was only here to help her sister.
"If you must stay here, you must address me properly," Alpha Lake said, his tone serious.
"I’m sorry, I-"
"Sure! She’ll call you ’Alpha’ from now on," Audrey spoke hurriedly, not waiting for Maria to finish the statement that was sure to land her in a dungeon.
"Good. Our pack needs a healer, you’ll put yourself to use in our hospital in exchange for your accommodation," Alpha Lake said and stood from the couch.
"Secondly, you’ll see that this house is kept clean at all times," He said coldly to Maria and walked into the kitchen.
"What the fuck?!" Maria whispered.
"Keep it down, I’ll talk to him," Audrey said and followed the Alpha into the kitchen.
"Hey, you hungry?" He asked as Audrey entered the kitchen.
"Yeah, you want to cook?" Audrey asked, slowly approaching him.
"Mm," He replied.
Audrey took a deep breath before she finally wrapped her arms around his toned waist.
"Let me cook for you," Audrey offered.
"No, I want to do something for you, as a thank you...for you my help earlier," He said, smirking.
Audrey released him immediately when she heard what he said. He was so shameless, mentioning such a thing so randomly.
"Where are you going?" He grabbed her by the waist and lifted her onto the counter, stepping in between her legs.
Audrey was surprised by his actions. Memories of their last time together in the same position pictured through her mind.
"What are you doing?" She asked, not looking at him.
"I thought you had something to say to me? About the witch girl," He nuzzled his nose in her hair.
Audrey wasn’t surprised he’d heard them talking from the living room, it was only normal he did.
She sighed and looked into his eyes.
"The hospital is enough for her, she’ll be exhausted if she covers here and there..." She caressed his cheeks with her fingers.
"Why are you so concerned about her?" He asked, rubbing the tip of his nose against hers.
"Um, nothing, I’m just super thankful to her for healing my wound, she freed me from such agonizing pain..." She paused and looked toward the door.
"She’s just a small tiny human witch, not some strong werewolf. Let me do it, it’s my job after all, that’s what you’re paying me for," Audrey said convincingly.
"Mm, I see. And are you?" Alpha Lake asked, rendering small kisses along her neck.
"I’m what?" Audrey asked, confused.
"Are you a wolf?" He asked and bit her neck.
"Ouch! No, I’m not," Audrey answered.
Her heart skipped at that question, it was almost like he meant to ask her for real.
"Then do you think you’re stronger than a witch?" He sneaked his hands inside her shirt, caressing her waist.
"No, I just love my job, and I don’t want to let it go, it’s become a second nature to me, I’ll do it better," Audrey explained.
"Mmm, I sense jealousy and possessiveness," He whispered.
Audrey thought about it and surprisingly realized that indeed, a small part of her was jealous and possessive of him.
She had been the only one taking care of him and his home ever since she could remember, having someone else stepping in to do it kind of felt off to her.
She didn’t like it. But, of course, she couldn’t accept his accusations.
"No, not like that, I’m just-"
"On one condition," Alpha Lake said.
"What?" Audrey asked, not liking the naughty smirk Alpha Lake was giving her.
"Let me eat you out, then she stays here rent-free?" He suggested seductively.
"You’re unbelievable," Audrey pushed him away from her and ran out of the kitchen.
Alpha Lake smiled and continued with what he was doing.
"How did it go?" Maria asked as Audrey came out from the kitchen.
"He wouldn’t budge," Audrey shook her head.
"What a devil," Maria whispered.
Audrey chuckled, "Thought he was your new bestie?" She teased.
Maria lifted her lips in disdain, "Never."
Audrey shrugged and walked to the door.
"Come on, healer, I’ll take you to the hospital then we’ll grab something to eat," Audrey informed her.
Maria followed Audrey outside the Packhouse, they were halfway to the hospital when they heard Sandra’s voice calling them from behind.
"Going somewhere without me?" Sandra and Alex walked up to them.
"Hey, Alex," Audrey smiled at her friend.
"Hey, sunshine, who’s your friend?" He asked, pointing at Maria.
Maria had never seen Alex before, she stared at his handsome face, smiling openly in admiration.
Audrey rolled her eyes at Maria, she wouldn’t be surprised if she claimed to have fallen in love with Alex at first sight.
"Allow me to introduce to you, our new friend, Maria, who is also a white witch and a healer," Sandra said proudly.
"A witch? Uh, nice to meet you, healer," He extended his hand to her.
"Just Maria is fine, handsome," Maria winked as she firmly held his hand, not planning to let go.
"Let go, Maria, behave," Audrey drew her hand away from Alex’s.
"Okay, Maria," Alex chuckled.
He liked her already, she seemed fun.
He had just returned from an errand from another pack, he wasn’t around when she came, so he had missed the whole witch drama, but Sandra had filled him in earlier before he met them. He had an idea who she was.
"Come on, you’ll be late for your first day at work," Audrey turned and continued walking toward the hospital.
"Work?" Sandra asked beside Maria as they followed Audrey.
"In exchange for my accommodation in the Pack, I have to work as the Pack’s healer," Maria said.
"Awesome," Sandra was giddy.
Audrey entered the clinic and asked a nurse to for Doctor Caleb.
"He’s in his office, go right in," The nurse replied and left.
"Come on," Audrey said to her friends.
She knocked softly on the door as they reached.
"Come in," Caleb’s voice replied.
Maria frowned as she heard the voice...weird.
Audrey pushed open the door and they all walked inside.
But, what they didn’t expect was to see a strange-looking doctor with his eyes glazed over.
"Mate!" Caleb said, staring right at Maria.
