Chapter 112: Delulu syndrome

Audrey fell silent and stared at Mr. Russell.

He would probably think she was quiet because she was shocked by what he said, but he didn’t know; she was quiet because she was contemplating whether to kill him and end this once and for all or wait for Alpha Lake to come. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"Don’t worry, Catherine, I’ll take good care of you when he’s gone," Mr. Russell assured her tenderly.

"Why? Why are you doing this?" Audrey asked; this time, she honestly wanted to know why he had chosen this dark and evil path.

"Ah, why am doing this? Hmm?" Mr. Russell walked to the corner, dragged another chair, and placed it in front of Audrey.

He lowered himself on the chair, crossing his legs and relaxing against the chair.

"Well, let’s just say... I want to be him," Mr. Russell said with a casual shrug.

Audrey scoffed, shaking her head at him. She observed him and thought back to the video she saw at Alpha Lake’s warehouse. She knew he was too far gone on his evil motives to even listen to her words of advice.

"But you know it, you can never be him," Audrey said matter-of-factly.

Mr. Russell chuckled, "That, I know, and that’s why I’m planning to take over everything he owns, including you, darling," Mr. Russell leaned over and placed his hand on Audrey’s exposed lap, sliding it higher up her thigh.

"Stop it, Russell," Audrey shifted her thigh away from his touch.

"Relax, darling, with time, you’ll get used to my sweet touch, when I’ll become the Alpha of, what was it again? Ah, yes, the Green Blue Pack, then you’ll-"

Audrey burst out laughing, hard. She laughed so hard that her face turned red and tears started coming out of her eyes.

Mr. Russell was taken aback for a second, he stared at Audrey in confusion, thinking about what he might have said that sounded funny.

"Catherine?" Russell called, worried and confused.

"I’m so sorry," Audrey sniffed, trying to control her laughter.

"Ahem! I’m so sorry, Russell, but first, it’s Grey Blood Pack; second, you’ll never be Alpha; even if you were a wolf, your greatest title would be a doorman at the children’s playhouse," Audrey said, chuckling lightly.

Mr. Russell felt heavily insulted by Audrey’s words, his face lost all smiles and became hard. He forcefully pulled her chair close to him, placing her between his spread legs.

"Now. Listen carefully, Catherine," He snatched her jaw between his fingers, looking angrily into her eyes.

"Don’t take the fact that I have feelings for you as leverage to say whatever you want to me, Darling," His voice was low, and his eyes shined with evil intent.

Audrey just stared up at him in a bored manner, "You’re feelings mean nothing to me, Russell. It’s just, I feel sorry for you," Audrey tilted her lips in a small smile.

Russell clicked his tongue and released her face, "I’m not the one you should worry about, darling. You should worry about your handsome mate," He stood up and walked behind her.

"Was he the one who gifted you this lame amulet?" He questioned her, tracing the gold chain around Audrey’s neck until he traced it down to her collar, holding the Ruby in his hand.

Audrey closed her eyes, praying to her inner self not to let her amulet react to Mr. Russell’s touch.

"I can do better, Catherine. I’ll give you the best diamond pieces of jewelry, just be beside me and rule the Pack with me," He whispered beside her ear.

Audrey was this close to banging his stupid nose with the side of her head, but she just clenched her fists, taking her mind away from the psycho beside her.

"Boss, he’s arrived," Dan informed.

Audrey opened her eyes, staring at the screen of the phone that Dan was holding up to show Mr. Russell a video of Alpha Lake coming down from his car... alone.

Audrey sighed. She couldn’t believe he really came alone as Mr. Russell had asked.

"Good, let him walk right into his death," Mr. Russell chuckled darkly.

"Looks like your Alpha isn’t that smart after all. I’m doing the pack a favor by ridding them of such a dumb Alpha," He turned to Audrey, "Don’t you think?" He questioned her.

"Let us go, and I’ll do whatever you want me to do, I promise," Audrey pleaded, but in reality, she was just giving him a chance to redeem himself because, in the end, she didn’t want to hurt him. She would always see him as an acquaintance.

But, she wasn’t about to sit and watch him hurt her mate. That was an impossibility for her.

"Don’t worry, I’m a man of my word, Cathy, I promised you in the beginning that I wouldn’t hurt you, and I still maintain what I said. So, relax, you’re safe," Mr. Russell said.

He went to a corner and took something from the table. When he returned, there was a gun in his hands.

"Untie her," Mr. Russell ordered.

"Yes, boss," Dan immediately moved and walked behind Audrey, untying her hands from the chair.

Audrey slowly brought her hands up in front of her face to inspect for any wounds. Luckily, there were none, but there were still red marks around her wrists, evidence of her manhandling.

"Take this," Mr. Russell handed Audrey the gun.

Audrey just stared at him without moving a muscle.

"If you want to live here alive, I suggest you obey my every word, Catherine," He grabbed her hand and pushed the gun into it.

"Now, when I tell you to shoot, you’ll do just that. Understood?" He asked her coldly.

Audrey nodded, "Why are my legs still tied to the chair?" She looked down at her legs and then at Mr. Russell.

"I need to know I can trust you before I release you," He said apprehensively.

"You can trust me, I’m on your side. After all, I can’t betray my fellow human for a beast," Audrey said softly.

Mr. Russell smiled, "Now we’re talking. But don’t worry, Catherine, you shall join me in my experiment, and together, we’ll be the first humans to successfully mutate our genes. We’ll become even more powerful than them. We will rule the whole werewolf species!" He finished and kept chuckling to himself.

’Psychotic and delusional,’ Selena spoke.

"What?" Audrey asked too loudly than she had expected.

She was surprised to hear Selena’s voice. After three good days of going mute on her, she finally decided to talk to her when she was in trouble.

"Don’t worry. I know you’re shocked, but that’s okay; I’ll walk you through everything, " Mr. Russell caressed her hair.

"Um, yeah..." Audrey replied.

She couldn’t tell him that she wasn’t even paying attention to what he was saying.

"Boss, he’s almost here," Dan replied.

"Hmm, it seems like I underestimated him; he still found you through your scent even after I used the anti-scent spray; interesting," Mr. Russell mused.

"Then, let him come," He said to Dan.

Immediately, the door handle rotated and the door was pushed open by Alpha Lake.

Audrey felt a certain kind of warm feeling wash over her as she saw her mate intimidatingly walk into the room with no fear or cower.

Her hero was here.

The moment Alpha Lake walked into the room, he saw the men cock their guns and point them at him, he ignored them and instantly used his eyes to search for Audrey, when his eyes found her, he looked her from hair to toe and made sure she wasn’t hurt before he slowly turned to Mr. Russell.

"Welcome, Alpha," Mr. Russell said mockingly.

"Come, Audrey," Alpha Lake didn’t even spare Mr. Russell a glance, he just focused his sight on Audrey, his hand stretched out to her.

"Um, that can’t work; if you were observant, you’d see that her legs were tied up. Dan?" Mr. Russell called and went ahead to lower himself on the chair in front of Audrey.

Dan immediately walked behind Audrey and put a gun to her head.

Alpha Lake’s wolf flashed across his eyes as he saw what Russell was planning to do.

"What do you want, Russell?" Alpha Lake asked, walking over to Mr. Russell and suddenly spinning his chair around so he faced him.

"Woah, easy there, Alpha," Mr. Russell raised his hands beside her head, smiling like a lunatic.

"Your mate’s life is at stake," Mr. Russell pointed behind Audrey while smiling up at Alpha Lake.

"Then face me and talk like a man; quit being cowardly," Alpha Lake drew him by the collar, kicking his chair away and sending it flying against the wall noisily; he let his wolf take over and dominate his eyes.

"Hey! Put me down!" Mr. Russell tried to punch Alpha Lake but his hand was caught before he could even aim and the next thing he felt was his back slamming hard against the wall

"Dan, I order you to shoot, what are you all waiting for?" Mr. Russell said, looking around nervously.

He didn’t understand why his men let things escalate to this extent, they should have shot Alpha Lake to the floor by now.

"Waiting for me, Russell," Audrey suddenly appeared behind Alpha Lake, placing a hand over his shoulder and staring at Mr. Russell, who looked like he’d seen a ghost as he looked at Audrey’s glowing eyes in disbelief.

He couldn’t believe it, how didn’t he notice that she was a wolf too? That would have saved him a lot of stress.

"W-what’s going on?" Mr. Russell stammered, staring at his guards, who looked like they’d been frozen in place.

"You’ve just messed with the wrong couple," Audrey smiled mischievously at him, letting her wolf shine brightly across her eyes.
