Chapter 111: Still waiting

Alpha Lake stood in front of the bench he had previously occupied with Audrey, his body feeling weak and defeated for the first time as he stared at Audrey’s phone, which lay on the grass with his name showing on the screen.

He bent over and picked it up, seeing the half-typed message on the screen.

I’m still waiting...

Was what she had typed but never got to send it.

"Fuck!" He cursed lowly as he gripped the phone tightly in his hand.

"Alpha, I’m sorry, I should have been watching over her," Andrew said, panting as he ran over to Alpha Lake.

Alpha Lake remained silent, staring at the phone in his hands with anger. He was just about to put the phone in his pocket when it vibrated with a message.

He quickly unlocked and gritted his teeth as he saw a message under Mr. Russell’s name.

He opened it and found only a smiley emoji with a location attached to it.

"Fucking idiot," Alpha Lake cursed.

Andrew stood aside, feeling the boiling anger from his Alpha. He’s never seen him that deathly before, this time, it was for the right cause. He wondered who was foolish enough to kidnap their Luna, the Alpha’s mate.

He pitied whoever that was because this was going to be how they met their end.

"Gather our men, Andrew, Russell had just signed up for his death," Alpha Lake’s voice was lethal and formidable.

Audrey slowly opened her eyes, her head feeling very heavy like a billion blocks were placed on top of it; she tried opening her eyes and realized that she’d been blindfolded.

She carefully observed herself and realized that she was placed inside the trunk of a moving vehicle with her hands tied behind her back.

She thought of freeing herself but suddenly realized that Mr. Russell and whoever he had sent to kidnap her wasn’t aware of her powers, if not, they wouldn’t have dared to kidnap her. That would be her element of surprise for them.

For a long time, she felt the gentle hum of the car’s tires gliding over the smooth, tarred road, but suddenly, the sound shifted to a gritty crunch as the wheels hit the loose gravel beneath the tires.

Audrey sensed an ominous change in the atmosphere, but she remained calm, not wanting to alert the people in the car of her awakening.

She could easily hear their hushed whispers as they spoke about how to share the money they were going to get from their boss.

Audrey would have found it shocking and heartbreaking to learn that their said boss was no other than her ex-boss who she had believed was full of sunshine and rainbows, but luckily for her, she’s discovered that he was a man utterly consumed by darkness, his heart blackened by malicious and diabolical nature that delighted in the anguish of others. This time, he would get what was coming to him.

The car slowly came to a stop, and Audrey heard two front doors open, followed by the cracking footsteps on the graveled ground, the footsteps sounded closer and closer to the trunk.

Audrey willed herself to be still as the trunk was pulled open, keeping her breath steady.

"Do you think it’s right?" Audrey heard one of the men ask.

"I don’t care, as long as he pays us our money," The other man replied.

"Uh... yeah," The first man agrees.

"Give me a hand," The second man said.

Audrey felt their hands grab her arm and underneath her legs, as they lifted her out of the trunk.

"You’re sure she won’t wake for two hours more?" One of them asked.

"Trust me, I know what I’m doing," The other replied.

Audrey swung from side to side as they carried her into an unknown building.

She heard the creaking sound of an old metallic door, followed by the hollow footsteps of her kidnappers as she felt herself descending weak wooden stairs. The temperature inside was quite low; if she wasn’t a werewolf, she’d have been shivering by then.

"Remember, do not give the girl to him if he doesn’t transfer our money," One of the men whispered, but his voice still echoed around the wall.

Audrey guessed they’d brought her to an abandoned warehouse. The smell of old machinery drifted into her nose, threatening to make her sneeze, but she slowly bit her teeth together to resist the involuntary reflex.

"He’s in here," The first man spoke as they suddenly stopped walking.

"Let’s go," Audrey felt herself start to swing again as the men opened another door and took her into a much warmer room.

"Drop the girl and turn around," A gruff voice ordered.

Audrey felt the men’s hand tighten around her, but suddenly, the sound of gun cockling was heard and she fell painfully onto the wooden floor with a thud. She guessed they had instantly released her when they saw the gun.

She applauded herself for not grunting from the painful fall, it was a hard task keeping your facial muscles relaxed when all you want to do is squeeze and squint the hell out of it.

"Good, now walk out that door while you still can," The gruff voice spoke again.

"But, our money..." The second man said, his voice filled with disappointment.

"I said, leave, while you still can," The gruff voice repeated.

"Relax, guys. Dan, no need to frighten them," Audrey heard Mr. Russell’s voice from behind the man with a gruff voice. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Good thing you’re here, Boss, we just want our money..." One of the men said.

Russell chuckled, a dark ominous chuckle.

"You think I’ll pay you such an amount just for driving someone over?" Russell mocked.

"We didn’t just drive her over, we kidnapped her!" The second man spoke agitatedly.

"You’re right. But, fortunately, the only thing I’ll be letting you guys walk away with is your lives," Mr. Russell said and lowered himself beside Audrey in a squat.

Audrey heard the speedy shuffling of one of her kidnapper’s feet behind her, "You fucking psycho - Argh! Fucking bastard!"

A gun was shot, and she guessed it was into the man’s shoulder.

"The next one will be...right between your eyes," Mr. Russell promised sinisterly.

"Come on, let’s get away from away," The first man said, and Audrey heard their footsteps leave the room and she kept hearing it with the painful grunt of the shot man until they left the building.

"Alright, tie her up to a chair," Mr. Russell ordered Dan.

"Yes, boss," Dan replied.

In the next second, Audrey felt herself being lifted off the floor and placed in a cold metallic chair.

She played the part, letting her upper body fall over, and her head falls from side to side to make them believe she was really unconscious.

"For fuck’s sake, Dan! Do not let her fall. At the end of the day..." Mr. Russell paused, and Audrey felt his hand on her cheek, tenderly caressing it, "She’s not the enemy, she’s just bait, and my friend, and future girlfriend, of course, so I urge you to be gentle with her. Understood?!" Mr. Russell asked.

"Yes, boss. I’m sorry, boss," Dan replied.

Audrey felt like biting off Mr. Russell’s hand that was still caressing her cheek, but for the sake of pretense, she didn’t.

Mr. Russell’s phone suddenly rang, piercing the silent and hollow room.

"Ah, the man of the hour is calling," Mr. Russell chuckled.

"Hello, Alpha," He kept chuckling and walked around Audrey on the chair.

Audrey felt bad as she heard Alpha Lake’s voice. She knew he was under a lot of stress with her gone missing, and she could end all this with a snap of her fingers, but she just wanted to see why Mr. Russell had kidnapped her, she was curious to find out all his motives.

"Relax, Alpha, I have no use for her; it’s you I want," Mr. Russell spoke into the phone.

"Yes, come alone; I sent you the location, mind you; I’ll know if you’re not alone," Mr. Russell laughed and ended the call.

Audrey was done with pretending; she needed to know where she was, so, she slowly took a deep breath and faked a very believable sneeze.

"Ah, finally, she wakes," Mr. Russell said, sounding happy.

"Untie her face," He ordered Dan.

"Yes, boss," Dan replied and immediately went behind Audrey.

Audrey felt the piece of cloth removed from her eyes and slowly opened her eyes. The room wasn’t too bright, just a normal lightning that was enough to see the other people.

"Hi, cupcake," Mr. Russell came and squatted in front of her, smiling brightly.

Audrey faked being shocked; she squinted her eyes at him, nervously scanning the empty room, and noticed six more armed men standing quietly at the corner, and then returned her face to Mr. Russell.

"What’s happening?" Audrey asked, sounding nervous.

Mr. Russell sighed and placed his hand on her thigh, "I’m sorry, Catherine, but, I need you to help me this one last time," He said softly.

"Help? Did you have to kidnap me? Where am I?!" Audrey asked, almost crying.

"Shh, Shh, it’s alright, it’s alright," He said in a soothing voice.

"What do you want from?" Audrey questioned.

Mr. Russell turned to Audrey and walked over to her chair; he placed his hands on the chair’s arm and leaned over to the level of her face, "You just have to help me kill him."
