Lukas nodded and finally decided to tell her something, "By the way, there is one thing you didn’t figure out yet. I am going to take these people to a safe shelter but you two will be coming with me to a different shelter..."
Catherine got stunned, she didn’t know what to say, this wasn’t what she was expecting. She had formed some bond with these people but it wasn’t something that was too deep.
As long as her daughter was safe she was willing to go anywhere. Not to mention if the shelter was really safe enough then she didn’t have to worry others too.
Lillian stayed quiet, she didn’t like the fact she would be living away from all her recent acquaintances but she was too timid to say anything here. She would just follow her mother.
Lukas sighed in relief at them not overreacting and began driving. The other three vehicles followed.
On the way they met with only one or two low level dead walkers and Lukas just ignored them, "They must be coming from the city"
That level 4 dead walker definitely had taken away all the dead walkers from this area so it was obvious that these new ones wandered off from the main city.
"Is the city infested with these zombies?" Catherine asked as no one from her camp had gone to visit there.
"Well it was but now there aren’t many. Although compared to this place there definitely are a lot..." Lukas pressed on the accelerator and increased his speed as they reached the main highway.
Through the way they met a few more dead walkers before they finally arrived in the city center.
"It really is far emptier than I thought" Catherine spoke as she looked around the center.
They hadn’t decided to go to the city because they were afraid of the number of zombies present here.
"It’s probably cleared by the evolvers of the shelter we are going to. That shelter probably consists of people from two cities..." Lukas assumed it as the military base was almost in the middle of two cities.
They were on the outer part of the city and this square was also the smallest one, the real city square was in the middle of the city where they would reach shortly.
As they kept going deeper the amount of dead walkers further decreased which proved his point that they were cleared by the evolvers who were traveling with the military vehicles previously.
Soon they reached the exact middle of the city, which was by far the most empty with not a single dead walker in the vicinity.
"Incredible, this city feels much safer than our camp to live in, to think we avoided this..." Catherine sighed.
"Maybe but there would have been a high chance that you would have been compromised..." Lukas stated the obvious.
A few minutes later they left the city and reached another main highway which went to the military base.
Catherine somewhat understood where they were going now, "So it is in the military base?"
"Yes..." Although it was just an assumption based on the fact that he saw some people driving military vehicles, he was sure that it was the case.
Just as he was thinking that he saw a military vehicle coming towards them, he had a feeling something like this might happen so he was prepared for it, "Speak of the devil, let’s see how they react to us..."
Catherine also became alert and held Lillian a little tighter.
Lukas stopped his car and the three vehicles also stopped behind him, the military vehicle also stopped about 30 meters from them.
"Stay in the car..." Lukas said and came out while holding his bow.
Simultaneous to his movement, two people came out of the military car, one was a guy with long hair covering his eyes while the other was a girl with a single braided hair in French style.
They both were wearing military uniforms and Lukas’s eyes lingered a little longer on the girl who was good looking and her ethnicity seemed to be French too.
Their expressions were of surprise while looking at them.
"To think we would meet survivors... where have you guys been before?" The girl spoke with an amused expression.
Lukas gave her a small smile, "The feeling is mutual, we were hoping to find a big shelter, as the place we were before is becoming dangerous to stay."
"Dangerous? Are there a lot of dead walkers there?" The guy with long hair asked as a few other people came out of the vehicle. Two men and a woman.
Lukas was a little stunned, he thought only he knew that zombies were called dead walkers but it seemed he was wrong.
’Must be the Knowledge Stone, the fact that it dropped as loot from the crocodile means others can get it too...’ Nonetheless, he acted oblivious, "Dead walkers?"
"Ahh yes, those zombies are called dead walkers." One of the men spoke calmly.
Lukas had to say that they didn’t look like bad guys but were they the leaders of the shelter or not, he couldn’t be sure yet, "Ohh I see, yes there were a lot but suddenly they all went away when we investigated, there was a large group in a farm field acting submissive to a big dead walker which seems to be higher level"
As Lukas was saying that some men who came from the three vehicles behind him approached. They were a little confused as they thought that Lukas was acquainted with them.
The French girl’s eyes widened, "You don’t know how lucky you are to have left your camp, it wouldn’t be long before they had attacked you all and believe me that level four dead walker is far more dangerous than your imagination"
’They definitely have faced one...’ Lukas thought immediately.
"So would you allow us to come to your shelter or not, there are a total of 16 people..." Lukas asked upfront to gauge their reaction.
