Grinding EXP From Fireball Skill-Chapter 106: Attack
"Come on, everyone, I’ll treat you all to some meat."
Everyone took out their daggers and knives, carving off pieces of meat to roast and eat.
The one thing the wilderness wasn’t short on was wild beasts.
To ordinary people, wild beasts were a danger.
To Extraordinary Professionals, they were simply food.
"Hello. I saw you weren’t eating, so I brought you some roasted meat."
Brad walked over to greet him.
Li Wei was a bit surprised. He stood up, took the roasted meat, and said, "Thank you."
Brad smiled and said, "I’m Brad, leader of the Radiant Mercenary Corps."
Li Wei said, "My name is Timo. I’m a Summoner traveling the world."
Brad looked at the brown bear and asked curiously, "Is this your Summoned Beast?"
Li Wei nodded. "Mhm, I tamed it not long ago."
The brown bear lifted its head, glanced at Brad, then lowered its head and closed its eyes to sleep again.
Brad chatted with Li Wei for a while, sharing some of his knowledge and experiences.
Li Wei had read many books. He simply pulled a few passages from them and adapted them into his own anecdotes, which left Brad marveling in amazement.
Brad laughed. "Your experiences are truly incredible. Listening to you makes me want to travel the world myself."
"It’s getting late, you should get some rest. Maybe we can team up tomorrow if there’s a chance? I’d like to see a Summoner’s abilities firsthand."
Li Wei said apologetically, "Ah, I’m sorry. I’m not very good at combat, so I’d rather not slow you down, Leader Brad."
Brad looked a little disappointed. "That’s a real shame."
Seeing Li Wei’s refusal, Brad didn’t press the issue.
After bidding Li Wei farewell, he returned to his group.
Li Wei sat down and watched Brad’s retreating back, a thoughtful look in his eyes.
’What is Brad up to? He seems to be investigating everyone’s identity in the camp.’
’Logically, as the leader of a mercenary corps, Brad shouldn’t be the one going around striking up conversations with strangers.’
’That’s a job he should leave to his subordinates.’
And yet, Brad had approached Li Wei to chat, and during their conversation, he kept probing for information about his background.
It wasn’t just Brad. Li Wei noticed that the other members of the Radiant Mercenary Corps also seemed to be gathering information on the Professionals in the camp.
Li Wei handed the roasted meat to the brown bear, letting it eat.
’Just in case the meat was tampered with.’
He leaned against the brown bear’s thick fur, feeling the warmth radiating from its back. The night no longer felt so cold.
’What’s going to happen tonight?’
Li Wei had a premonition.
He whispered, "Shadow Attendant, stay on alert."
The brown bear grunted in acknowledgment.
Li Wei wrapped his cloak around himself, curled up next to the brown bear, and feigned sleep, resting to restore his energy.
After waiting for some time, he saw that nothing had happened in the camp.
He couldn’t be bothered to waste any more time waiting.
"Shadow Attendant, wake me up immediately if anything happens."
With that said, Li Wei activated his Great Dream Traveling Skill, slipped into the dream realm, and seized the opportunity to cultivate his Magic.
’Running away from the camp was certainly an option.’
’But if something was going to happen, it would be better to stick close to Gu Ze and Rota.’
’There were other Official Mages and Apprentice Mages from other Mage Towers near them.’
’If they all joined forces, their combined strength would be no less than the Radiant Mercenary Corps.’
’Besides, Li Wei was also worried about Gu Ze’s safety.’
’Staying in the camp would make it easier to intervene and save them in time.’
In the dream realm, Li Wei stayed inside his safe house to cultivate his Magic, not once stepping outside.
He remained ready to exit the dream at a moment’s notice.
Li Wei worked hard on his Illusion Technique, trying to improve his Control Power.
’He didn’t want to accidentally expose his identity during the potential fight to come.’
Late into the night, everyone had fallen asleep, leaving only the night watch to stay awake on duty.
The only sounds in the camp were the CRACKLE of burning wood and the low murmurs of the men on watch.
Suddenly, someone screamed in pain.
"Agh! My stomach, my stomach hurts so much!"
It was like a signal. Soon, more and more screams echoed through the camp.
Nearly a quarter of the people were jolted awake by the pain.
The others were woken by the screams.
The brown bear stirred, nudging Li Wei.
A few seconds later, Li Wei exited the dream and opened his eyes.
Hearing the screams around him, he asked in confusion, "What’s happening?"
"ROAR ROAR ROAR..."
The brown bear also let out a suppressed, low growl.
The Shadow Attendant made the brown bear roll over and swat at its stomach.
One glance was all it took for Li Wei to understand what the Shadow Attendant was trying to say.
The brown bear’s stomach also hurt.
In an instant, his mind flashed to the piece of meat the bear had eaten.
’Damn it, there’s something wrong with the meat!’
Suddenly, the sounds of battle erupted in the camp.
Li Wei saw a group of men in black storming into the camp, slaughtering the Professionals who were incapacitated by pain.
Members of the Radiant Mercenary Corps charged out to fight the men in black.
The others quickly reacted as well, rushing to deal with the attackers.
Li Wei saw Brad saving people and frowned in confusion. ’Isn’t he the culprit?’
’Brad was the one who gave the meat to the bear.’
After a moment of thought, Li Wei remembered a more crucial detail.
’Although Brad had given him the meat, it was roasted wild boar.’
’Brad wasn’t the problem.’
’The problem was the Warrior who had invited everyone to eat wild boar. He was the real culprit!’
Li Wei glanced around and noticed that everyone lying on the ground had, to some extent, eaten the roasted wild boar.
’Fortunately, he had been cautious and hadn’t eaten the meat.’
WHOOSH!
A figure materialized behind Li Wei.
A cold gleam of light slashed across his neck.
An Assassin was attacking Li Wei from behind.
CLANG!
The dagger was blocked by his Invisible Armor.
The Assassin froze for a moment. "What the hell is this?"
Li Wei’s eyes narrowed as he looked back.
The brown bear immediately leaped up and pounced on the Assassin.
"Shadow Claw!"
The brown bear’s claws turned black, emanating a thick Power of Shadow.
The Assassin was stunned. ’What the hell is this now?’
The Assassin pushed his agility and reflexes to their limits, dodging left and right to evade the brown bear’s attacks.
"Shadow Tentacles!"
Shadow Tentacles shot out silently from the depths of a nearby shadow, ensnaring the Assassin’s calf.
Only when the Assassin tried to move did he realize something was wrapped around his leg.
The Shadow Attendant seized the opportunity to lunge forward.
"Shadow Claw!"
RIIIIP!
The Shadow Claw tore right through the Assassin’s body, killing him instantly.
No one else saw the Shadow Tentacles. They only saw the brown bear kill the Assassin.
They all assumed it was because Li Wei’s Summoned Creature was powerful.
Li Wei turned to look at the others.
There was no sound coming from the tent where the Mages were resting.
Li Wei grew worried. ’Have they all been assassinated inside?’
He started toward the tent. The brown bear padded over, holding a dagger and a money pouch in its mouth, and presented them to Li Wei.
Li Wei took them and put them in an inner pocket of his Invisibility Cloak.
"Let’s go see what’s happening."
Just as he was about to walk over, the tent flap opened, and a group of Mages emerged.
FWOOSH! FWOOSH! FWOOSH!
All sorts of Magic Radiance flared to life.
Seeing this, the men in black shouted, "Retreat!"
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A barrage of Magic erupted: Fireballs, Wind Blades, earth spikes, lightning, Wooden Spears, waves of fire...
The attackers fled, leaving more than a dozen bodies behind.
CLIP-CLOP! CLIP-CLOP!
A short while later, the army arrived.
"What happened here?"
Reina rode into the camp on her warhorse.
Li Wei silently hid behind the crowd.
