Chapter 107: Chapter 107: Golden Anteater

Reina led the soldiers to clean up the battlefield.

They took away a few injured and captured attackers to investigate their identities and origins.

Those who had been poisoned also began to recover after taking the Antitoxic Potion.

To poison more people, the attackers used a stealth-focused poison that wasn’t very potent.

At least, it wasn’t fatal to Extraordinary Professionals.

Brad found Li Wei and said with a hint of apology, "Sorry, I previously mistook you for an enemy hiding in the camp."

Li Wei glanced at him, then turned his gaze to the brown bear. "Did you know there was a problem with the meat?"

Brad was taken aback for a moment, then hesitated before saying, "I guessed as much."

"Then why didn’t you stop them?" Li Wei asked.

Brad said, "To draw out the others."

Li Wei now understood the kind of person he was.

He made no further comment on the matter.

Seeing that Li Wei didn’t want to engage with him any further, Brad didn’t press the issue.

"Then I won’t disturb your rest, Sir Timo. I’ll be leaving now."

Brad turned and left.

In his heart, he was still suspicious of Li Wei.

No one knew if there were still enemies hidden in the camp.

The Radiant Mercenary Corps had been watching the Warrior who administered the poison, and they rushed to capture him the moment the trouble started.

But they found he had already vanished.

They couldn’t find any clues on the dead Professionals that would reveal the faction behind the attackers.

They all looked like ordinary Professionals.

Now, only the few captives Reina had taken away might provide any leads.

Gu Ze, Rota, and the others saw that the chaos had ended and returned to their tents.

Before leaving, Gu Ze glanced at Li Wei, a hint of curiosity in his eyes.

He felt that the man’s back looked somewhat familiar.

In the latter half of the night, few people could sleep.

Everyone remained in a state of half-sleep, vigilant.

Li Wei leaned back against the brown bear and, with a calm demeanor, slowly drifted off to sleep, Entering the Dream.

He didn’t seem the least bit worried about being attacked.

"Shadow Attendant, keep watch."

The brown bear let out a snore.

A night passed.

[Illusion Technique (Tier Zero)] 1086/10000

Li Wei’s control over the Illusion Technique had improved further, allowing him to perfect more details.

He could now use the Illusion Technique to change his vocal characteristics.

He could make his voice sound more mature and experienced.

This better suited his identity as a world-traveling Summoner.

Li Wei withdrew from the dream and felt the brown bear’s body behind him had grown cold.

He froze for a moment, then patted the brown bear’s head.

"Shadow Attendant."

"Master."

The Shadow Attendant emerged from the brown bear’s shadow.

Li Wei looked at the brown bear and let out a breath. "Is it dead?"

The Shadow Attendant nodded.

A Nightmare can only Parasite living things. Once the brown bear died, the Shadow Attendant could no longer control its body.

Li Wei said, "Take the body away. Hide it somewhere discreet."

The Shadow Attendant slipped under the brown bear, lifted it, and snuck into the woods.

Thanks to the Invisible Armor covering its body, the Shadow Attendant could touch objects and exert some of the Nightmare’s Power.

With a portion of a Tier Two Middle Level Nightmare’s Power, lifting a brown bear was not a difficult task.

After losing the brown bear, finding new "Summoned Creatures" was now a pressing matter.

As a Summoner, he couldn’t go into battle without a single Summoned Beast.

Only after everyone else had gradually entered the mine did Li Wei take his Shadow Attendant and walk into it.

In the early morning, the chill inside the mine had not yet dissipated.

After walking a dozen or so meters into the mine, Li Wei felt the temperature drop sharply, becoming somewhat damp and cold.

’Unfortunately, my current identity is a Summoner, so I can’t use Fire Element Magic.’

’Otherwise, creating a Fireball to warm myself up would be much more comfortable.’

Li Wei tightened the cloak around him and continued forward.

After a short while, multiple forks in the path appeared before him.

"Shadow Attendant."

The Shadow Attendant quickly ducked into one of the tunnels and returned just as fast.

"This one’s a dead end."

Then, it ducked into the other tunnels.

Of the three forks, one was a dead end, and two led deeper underground.

Li Wei chose the path with fewer footprints.

He held a torch to light the way, but after walking for an unknown amount of time, he still hadn’t seen any of the so-called Iron-Eating Ants.

’Could this be a dead end ahead? Why else would so few people have come this way?’

After walking a bit further, two more forks appeared. This time, both the left and right paths had equally few footprints.

The Shadow Attendant went ahead to investigate.

TAP, TAP, TAP!

Hearing footsteps from behind, Li Wei was instantly on alert.

He extinguished his torch, pressed himself against the cave wall, activated his Invisibility Cloak, and vanished on the spot.

"Can we really find the Secret Silver Ore this way? It looks like no one’s ever been down here."

"Don’t worry. I got this information from a Beastman Miner. He said the first piece of Secret Silver Ore was found down this way."

Two men appeared before him.

A man dressed as a Warrior led the way with a torch, followed by a Knight carrying a large cloth sack on his back.

The two passed by Li Wei without noticing him.

A moment later, the Shadow Attendant returned.

Both paths were passable. Ahead on the left path, there were signs of a few Iron-Eating Ants.

At the end of the right path was an enormous cavern.

The Shadow Attendant hadn’t gone inside, so it didn’t know what was in the cavern.

Li Wei glanced in the direction the two men had gone and followed them into the right-hand tunnel.

"AH!"

A bloodcurdling scream came from up ahead.

Li Wei’s heart went cold, and he slowed his pace.

TAP, TAP, TAP!

The sound of hurried footsteps approached.

A moment later, Li Wei saw a figure fleeing in panic.

WHOOSH!

A sound of something cutting through the air rang out, and the fleeing person suddenly pitched forward and fell to the ground.

THUD!

"AHHH! HELP ME!"

SHHHH-SHHHH-SHHHH!

A force emanated from the cavern behind, forcibly dragging the fallen Knight back.

The Knight desperately grabbed at his surroundings to stop himself, but he couldn’t resist the immense Power from behind. His body was dragged backward until he disappeared into the darkness.

Only three drag marks were left on the ground.

Li Wei stopped and stood where he was, peering ahead.

The pitch-black cavern before him was like a bottomless pit, ready to swallow anyone who entered.

"Shadow Attendant."

The Shadow Attendant sped forward.

A short while later, it returned to Li Wei’s side.

"A Magic Beast."

Li Wei breathed a sigh of relief. ’As long as it’s not a ghost or something like that.’

’It’s a good thing it’s just a Magic Beast.’

He extinguished his torch and proceeded cautiously while invisible.

After rounding a corner, he saw a faint light ahead, which seemed to be the entrance to the cavern.

Li Wei understood that he had reached the cavern the Shadow Attendant had mentioned.

’Looks like the Magic Beast lives in the cavern up ahead.’

He walked out of the tunnel and into the cavern.

Using the faint fluorescent light within the cavern, Li Wei saw a blurry dark shape coiled in a corner.

A chewing sound came from ahead.

CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH!

Li Wei moved closer and finally got a clear look at the Magic Beast.

"A Golden Anteater?"

A look of astonishment crossed Li Wei’s face.

The Golden Anteater was gnawing on the Metal Armor of the deceased.

Suddenly, it dropped the Metal Armor and walked to one side.

WHOOSH!

Li Wei saw a flash of red.

SHHHH-SHHHH-SHHHH!

The next second, he saw the Golden Anteater’s tongue return, with more than a dozen fist-sized Iron-Eating Ants stuck to it.

CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH!

The Golden Anteater chewed the Iron-Eating Ants, eating them.

Crisp and crunchy!

It feasted heartily, savoring the delicious meal.

The Iron-Eating Ants, impervious to blades and axes, as hard as metal and stone, were nothing but food before the Golden Anteater.
