God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.-Chapter 1114: Understanding does not Exist (2).
Desire is born of strife. The reverse is also the case...
Riches, glory, fame, lust, resources...
Things of desire that could birth strife.
Blood was finally being spilt.
And the more blood was washed into and mixed with the rain, the greater the ferocity of the battle.
However, up there in the sky, Cain was too busy surviving a rather headache-inducing ordeal.
’This guy is simply too damn hardy!’
The Stone Ox King, like his name suggested, was a creature that defied logic and reason, even more so in this world where logic has long been thrown out the window.
Cain’s eyes narrowed. If there had ever been a physical representation of indomitable, it would be this guy.
Cain prided himself in his incredible attack potency.
However, it all seemed completely useless in the face of this guy.
And that was thanks to the blessing of the Ox King— originating from a constellation that worshipped and accepted the Crimson Lady of the Night as its god.
It was, in its own right, a powerful diety. However, the relationship between the Divine was forever complex and nuanced.
’His blessing is strange. It doesn’t turn his skin to stone, as much as it completely negates the effects of any attack, completely dispersing the force.’
Dealing with such an opponent was a pain. Especially since he couldn’t even use magic to overcome his defenses.
But if that was all, it would not be souch if a headache.
The Ox King was not just hardy.
He was also strong and fast.
To make matters worse, he seemed to have strong affinities with the earth elemental and the thunder paraelement. The Thunder paraelement was a sub category under the element of lightning that harnessed the energy of the explosive characteristics of high pressure and volatile atmospheres as opposed to lightning where the focus was generating and propagating an electric charge.
Thanks to this affinity, Baldur’s blows hit especially hard. Normally, a regular human would be unable to harness violent energy from the thunder element.
However, with a body like Baldur’s, Cain was certain it wasn’t a problem.
For a moment, the two warriors separated.
Then Baldur guffawed,
"Tell me, Golden Demon. What exactly do you fight for?"
Cain raised a brow.
’What’s with the people talk all of a sudden?’
Sensing Cain’s apprehension, Baldur chuckled and waved his hand,
"You misunderstand me."
Upon looking closely, Cain realized that the Ox King, had rather cruel, yet homely features. Like a tyrannical king that could deceive the masses with a heart smile and laugh.
Such a person would simply too terrifying. With that observation, he was able to make a fairly accurate guess on the personality of this Ox King.
Baldur was silent for a moment then pointed at {Eidwyrm},
"That thing... I can barely feel a tickle from it. Could it be that you simply aren’t as powerful as the rumors say you are? Or is it I am simply too overwhelming for you?"
Cain snorted, ’What arrogance.’
He shrugged, "It’s interesting until you get to find out, you see..."
His eyes narrowed dangerously, 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"That blessing of yoursust be quite convenient."
A sharp light flitted through Baldur’s eyes,
"Your eyes are pretty keen. Yes, my blessing, {Twilight’s Invincible Hide}, does come from the goddess of the Crimson Night. But, I don’t really care for all that. After all, it does not take a genius to realize when you are being used."
Cain frowned, "If you know you are being used, why still go ahead with it?!"
Baldur roared in laughter again.
Then his smile vanished,.
"A youngling like you had no right to question my choices. I have been used for longer than you have been born."
Cain grimaced, "That... I don’t think that is something to be proud of."
Baldur froze for a moment. Then he cleared his throat,
"In any case, answer my question— why do you fight?"
Cain was silent for a moment.
There were a thousand and one ways he could answer that question.
But...
"Why do you fight?" Cain suddenly said, throwing the question right back.
Baldur’s face turned dark,
"What the hell?! I asked you first!"
Cain snorted, "Answer me, and I’ll answer you. That’s the deal, right?"
Baldur pursed his lips then he raised a brow,
"Shouldn’t it be the other way around?!"
After a moment of hesitation, he sighed,
"Before the apocalypse, I had slaved away for years. I was used and abused, working for my wife and kids who didn’t live me and called me an alcoholic. Working for my stupid boss who always took all the credit!"
Baldur’s jovial expression vanished gradually , and was reolaced with one of unbridled rage— a telling sign that he was not very stable up there.
"But that is not the point. Because my intentions have always been pure! And so is my heart! The goddess saw that in me and decided to grant me power. But even then, the damned god desires to use me!"
He paused and looked into the sky,
"But that’s fine."
Thunder rumbled like the growling stomachs of a thousand dragons,
"Because she had granted me something in return— the power to seize what I want with my own two hands!"
"And so, you ask me why I fight?! Well, this is the damn reason! I want to devour this world. I want to consume it and make it all mine!" He yelled, spittle flying out of his mouth and onto his beard.
Cain scoffed, "You are crazy."
Baldur’s erratic expression calmed as he chuckled,
"Am I? But is that not the reason you fight as well? Why else would you be here today? You realize then threat the sect poses to your expansion, band so, you have come to personally deal with it. Is that not the same as I am? What makes you think you are better?"
Cain shrugged, "No. I never said my reason was better or more noble. In fact, it might be more selfish and unreasonable than yours.m."
Baldur chuckled and sneered, "In that case, what is it?"
Cain huffed.
At this point, it was hard for him to properly identify his desires.
In fact, as far as he could remember, his desires has always been subdued, constantly looming in the background of his life.
When it had all begun, his desire has simply been to break away from the stagnancy of a normal life.
But now...
Now, it was a but different.
Cain chuckled and pointed at the skies,
"I want to become a dragon that can consume the heavens."
