Chapter 1113: Understanding does not Exist (1).

Above the battlefield, two shadows darted around, constantly shooting earth-shattering spells back and forth.

Riding on the back of a strange flying insectoid creature, Plague had a bored expression on his face,

"I thought you were strong. What the hell is this performance?"

Standing on a enormous tumor-covered black arm, Steve wore a mysterious smile on his face,

"Truly, what is strong, and what is weak? Are these fundamental, intrinsic properties, or is that relative and based on perception?"

Plague snorted, "Yammering won’t save you, you know?"

His face contorted into a twisted grin,

"However if you beg, perhaps I will show compassion? Maybe? No. I probably won’t." He said with a cackle.

Steve shrugged, "I have no interest in conflict or combat for a moment. Instead, why don’t we address something more immediate."

His eyes began to glow,

"That insect. It is not a real creature, is it?"

Plague raised a brow and glared down at him.

This man in front of his had been doing nothing but taking his blows head on without retaliating.

Initially, he had believed his bombardment was simply too overwhelming and his enemy was much weaker.

But very soon, he realized that might not be the case.

The dark arm the man stood on, for some reason, made his skin crawl.

Plague clicked his tongue. Then his expression twisted into a haughty sneer,

"So what? Yes. This is not a real beast. Rather, it is a manifestation of my abilities."

Steve nodded slowly, "Indeed it is. But that doesn’t look like magic. Or Devil Essence for that matter. Could it be..."

Plague chuckled,

"It is a list art that was granted to me by an ancient, mysterious entity. Far more ancient and powerful than the gods."

Every word of his was laced with pride and ego, so much Steve had to wonder how he was raised.

However, that was just by the way.

’I see... No wonder it felt so familiar.’

He smiled,

"Is that so. That is indeed a rather interesting way to make use of much arts."

Plague’s gaze became a bit dangerous,

"Yes. And I can do much more than this. For example..."

The sky darkened as a strange blackness swirled around Plague,

"Although these parts are deadly, they only shine to their fullest extent when they are combined with the blessings of a goddess.

"The poisoned big under the crimson Moon. Overflowing with bloody shadows. With streams of vice and fetid destruction..."

As he changed, the blackness surged forth even more. Like black smoke, it surged toward Steve.

Steve held his place, curious to see what the fanfare was about.

Almost immediately, his eyes widened.

’Incredible!’

The black fog washing over his barrier ate furiously at it until it was destroyed.

The arm beneath him shot away, carrying him along as well. The black fog of course pursued relentlessly.

Steve placed a finger on his chin,

"How truly fascinating. Energy that simply breaks the form of magic down to the constituent flow patterns. Incredible. Truly incredible!"

Plague sneered, "Sure, sure. Whatever you say. No magic can prevail against my power. It if evil and all encompassing. And when combined with my knowledge of alchemy, poisons, and strange beings, there is little anyone can do to prevent their eventually demise. So? Are there any last words."

Steve nodded furiously.

Plague’s eyes twitched, "W-what is it, damn it?!"

Steve rubbed his chin, the glow in his eyes becoming almost unstoppable,

"I understand that the nature of this energy is strange— perhaps, a mutation of mana influenced by Devil Essence. Then, it is all but certain you got your abilities from a Demon. Or maybe some other fiend of the Hell Realms? Yes, that is most likely the case."

Plague’s eyes twitched. Then he sighed and muttered,

"Whatever. Time’s running out. I don’t have time to deal with this. I’ll just kill him now."

As he muttered to himself, black spears were formed from the black fog. Then they all shot right at Steve.

Seeing this, Steve grinned,

"Why so eager? We have barely even begun..." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

He snapped his fingers and dozens of barriers appeared right in front of him to block the barrage of black spears.

The spears smashed into the barriers, destroying them as the shot forward.

The barriers shattered almost instantly, but they successfully stopped the spears.

Plague’s eyes narrow, ’This is the first time someone has blocked them so casually.’

"Hm. This ability of yours is rather problematic. The ability to render all defenses of aagical nature null. You’ve also tried to hide it well, but I can smell the poisona you’ve been releasing all this time."

Plague’s expression turned dark,

Steve chuckled, "What? Are you surprised? In that case, I’ll let you know on another secret of yours."

His grin turned rather frightening,

"Even though it seems like you hold the advantage, for some reason, you don’t seem to intent on killing me despite your words."

He chuckled, "Why is that? I asked myself. Then I realized it— despite how you look and your words, you are a cowardly. No. Cowardly isn’t the word. Should I say cautious? Or perhaps, Prudent..."

"That’s enough." Plague said coldly.

From the back of his flying summon, he stood.

Then he began chanting under his breath.

The sky turned even darker as all around him, hundreds of magic circles appeared. These magic circles were suddenly tinged with darkness as the dark fog bled into them.

From the depths of the magic circles, all sorts of twisted life forms, their bodies altered by the strange dark energy spawned forth.

As they were birthed, disgusting wings burst out from behind them. Then they all shot at Steve.

So thick was the swarm, that patch of sky was turned blacker than night. Each one was a highly toxic Aether Beast, their toxins strengthened by the strange dark energy.

Steve’s expression turned a bit serious.

He huffed deeply, "Looks like I need to get a bit serious. Spending too much time up here will be rather counterintuitive after all."

His face split into a grin,

"Watch closely, and pay even later attention. Because I am about to show you a magic trick!"
