Chapter 125: Taking Advantage

Kai smiled at their reaction as he also confirmed that he also got a bunch of experience points, and he even leveled up once!

[ You have leveled up! ]

...

[ +350 Experience Points. ]

The notifications continued for some time as he killed quite a lot.

Still, he was now Level 18!

Furthermore, even though he didn’t get a Skill Point, he realized that his Keen Sense had leveled up from Level 3 to Level 4.

The improvement he got from leveling up wasn’t that much, but he knew that the Level 20 milestone would be huge, just like when he reached Level 10.

"Tomorrow... I should reach Level 20." Kai muttered as he looked around.

The Survivors stood among the corpses, breathing heavily. They seemed exhausted, but it seemed that they also realized that they had gotten stronger.

Kai raised his hand. "Rest. That’s the first batch done."

Claire nodded, signaling her squad to lower their weapons.

Farrah and Alfie slumped against the broken wall of a mausoleum. Although they leveled up and their Health and Spirit Points recovered, their stamina didn’t reset...

It had been their first real fight against Mutants, and it felt different fighting against Sentinels.

In any case, there was nothing to loot. The Mutants carried no weapons, no valuables, nothing useful. They were simply husks of flesh, designed to kill.

The group returned to the armored cars. Water bottles were passed around, and everyone drank greedily.

The cool liquid soothed their throats, and for a moment, they all relaxed.

Kai didn’t waste time. "We need to deal with the bodies."

Claire agreed. "If we leave them, the stench will attract more trouble. And besides... It’s safer to make sure they don’t rise again."

"They’re not Zombies but okay... Haha..." Kai laughed as he knew that these mutants were already dead after they gave out Experience Points.

Soon, the team dragged the corpses into piles. Torches and fuel were brought out, and soon flames roared to life.

Just like that, the Mutants burned easily, their flesh swiftly crumbled into ash...

Farrah frowned. "Strange... fire barely touched them when they were alive. But now, they burn like dry wood."

She actually tried using fire against them a while ago, but it didn’t work. However, what she was seeing now was different.

Kai smiled as he also had a similar reaction before.

"Yes... Alive, they resist fire. Dead, they’re fragile. Another mystery of this apocalypse."

"At least cleanup’s easy." Alfie muttered.

After it was all settled, Kai decided that it was enough.

"We’ll stop here. We’ve learned enough. This trap can be exploited. Tomorrow, we’ll return with more."

Claire smirked. "Agreed. Better to come back fresh."

The next day, the cemetery became a battlefield once again. This time, Kai brought all the Foreign Survivors.

Aside from himself, there were Claire, Wallace, Victor, and Ralph from Haven‑45. They were all high-level Survivors and had experienced a lot of battles.

From Haven‑15 came Terrence, Aurora, and Jonas. They weren’t really combat-type Survivors like many others, but with the weapons Kai could provide, they had no issues joining the team.

It was the same with Elena and Marissa from Haven‑40. They had been rescued not long ago, and though their talents leaned more toward support than direct combat, Kai wanted them here.

They needed to level up faster, to gain Gene Skills and Survivor Medals. If they became stronger, they could pay him back and contribute more to him and the group itself.

Finally, there were Farrah and Alfie from Haven‑62, the newest additions to Kai’s ranks. They had only just joined, but their performance in the first wave was truly decent.

With their Spirit Knight and Gladiator Talent, they were already considered core members!

Kai looked over the assembled group and nodded.

"Today, we exploit the trap again. Stick to the plan..."

The Survivors nodded. They understood.

Kai wasn’t forcing anyone.

He had simply offered them to take advantage of this trap with him.

To assist them, he offered one Survivor Medal for fifty bullets and basic gear.

Those who couldn’t pay now would owe him later.

Since Kai was the only one who could provide ammunition, they accepted the deal without hesitation. After all, they didn’t mind taking a loan!

Thanks to this, Kai had already collected more Medals, strengthening his position even further.

Of course, Kai didn’t rush them into another fight immediately. Instead, he raised his hand and gave clear instructions.

"Set the traps properly... I don’t want those Mutants charging straight at us. Hold the line with traps first."

The Survivors moved quickly. Under Kai’s orders, they began fortifying the cemetery. Wooden pikes were hammered into the ground, angled outward to pierce anything that tried to rush them. Metal scraps were piled into pointed barricades. There were sharp edges ready to tear into flesh.

Soon, even barbed wire collected from the junkyard was stretched across choke points, forcing the Mutants to slow down or bleed themselves trying to push through.

Pitfalls were also dug hastily, covered with loose planks and dirt, waiting to swallow the careless.

It didn’t end there, ropes from the Survival Gift Pack were tied low across the ground, ready to trip the creatures while charging...

Even the broken tombstones were dragged into position, forming crude barriers to funnel the enemy into kill zones.

Kai oversaw everything and felt satisfied. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

It felt much better than yesterday.

"Good. Keep the pikes close to the front. Barbed wire on the flanks. Pitfalls behind the smoke line...."

Claire and Ralph’s squad worked efficiently as they could already imagine what kind of battle they were about to face... They knew what areas were lacking and had to adjust them.

Meanwhile, Farrah and Alfie followed instructions carefully as they helped secure the traps. Elena and Marissa, though not combat‑types, carried supplies and assisted with the setup, determined to contribute.

Within minutes, the cemetery looked different. It wasn’t just a graveyard anymore! It was a battlefield prepared for slaughter.

Kai was finally satisfied with their preparations and nodded.

"Alright. Defenses are ready. Claire, send someone in."
