Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya-Chapter 312: Diona
Chapter 312: Diona
"An Abyss Mage?"
Bai Luo turned his head and glanced at the camp he had just thoroughly "taken care of," his vigilance rising sharply.
When he knocked out all the Hilichurls, he hadn’t seen any Abyss Mage at all.
Which meant that either... the furry little thing had already left, or it was lurking nearby, carrying out its so-called "evil expansion."
What puzzled him even more was that when he had brought little Collei here to deploy mechanical birds, he had encountered Abyss Mages in the area.
But he remembered clearly that the Meaty Tribe had never had Abyss Mages before.
Could it be that...
Thinking of the Statue of the Seven that had appeared out of nowhere, Bai Luo grew more and more convinced of his speculation.
"Um... you’re an adventurer, right?"
Seeing Bai Luo deep in thought, the cat-eared hunter spoke up cautiously.
"Mm, something like that."
Bai Luo neither confirmed nor denied it.
To be fair, some of the things he’d done were so outrageous that even the greatest adventurers in the world might bow in admiration after hearing about them.
Calling himself an adventurer didn’t really feel wrong.
"My name is Draff. I’m the head hunter of Springvale. As you can see... in my current condition, going back on my own would be very dangerous. If you have time, would you be willing to accept a commission to escort me home? Mora won’t be an issue—I promise you won’t be treated unfairly."
Just as Draff said, Springvale was quite far from here, and the route passed through plains teeming with monsters.
If this were the usual Draff, returning alone wouldn’t have been a problem at all.
But now he was badly burned, his hunting bow destroyed by the Hilichurls. Making it home safely was nothing short of wishful thinking.
If he ran into Slimes, he might still struggle through.
But if he encountered Hilichurls again, he likely wouldn’t even have a chance to fight back.
"You said your name is... Draff?"
Looking at the cat-eared hunter before him, Bai Luo’s expression gradually became... colorful.
No wonder he had felt a sense of familiarity the moment he saw this hunter.
If he remembered correctly, the father of Diona, the bartender of the Cat’s Tail, was named Draff.
What a coincidence.
"Yes. I’m also an old acquaintance of the Adventurers’ Guild and have helped them complete many commissions. If Mora doesn’t interest you, I can have the guild issue a follow-up commission afterward. I absolutely won’t let you suffer a loss."
From Bai Luo’s reaction, Draff could tell that the young man had heard of him before.
That put him at ease.
If the other party knew his name, then he must be someone from Mondstadt. As long as his background was clear and he wasn’t some suspicious individual, it would be fine.
"Alright, I’ll take the commission."
Perhaps it was out of consideration for Diona—or perhaps Bai Luo simply wanted to test whether a real cat or a catgirl felt better to pet. Either way, he agreed.
"My deepest thanks."
With Bai Luo’s consent, Draff finally let out a sigh of relief.
Someone who could silently take down an entire Hilichurl camp was clearly no ordinary fighter.
Even though he didn’t see a Vision on him, if this young man was affiliated with the Adventurers’ Guild, he must hold a respectable position.
It was just a little strange that he wasn’t wearing the guild’s uniform, instead donning such a peculiar black coat.
But as long as he could make it back safely, Draff had no objections—no matter how oddly dressed his escort was.
After helping Draff roughly bandage his wounds, the two set off toward Springvale.
...
Outside Mondstadt City lay a town that was tranquil yet not lonely, warm yet not stifling.
Its name was Springvale.
In the beginning, there hadn’t been a town here at all.
Legend has it that a despairing mother, carrying her gravely ill child, once encountered an existence known as the "Spirit of the Spring" in this very place.
It was a stream of water that gushed up from a dried well.
The flowing water gathered into a spring, healing a child who had been on the brink of death due to illness.
At the time, people flocked to witness this blessed spring. Some even built settlements around it, unwilling to leave.
And so, over time, a town called Springvale was born.
However, in today’s Springvale, no one truly believes this legend anymore. To them, it’s just a story—useful only for coaxing a bit of tourism money out of outsiders.
There was only one exception.
That was a little girl named Diona.
"Spirit of the Spring... please bless Daddy and let him come back soon."
Today, Diona didn’t go to the Cat’s Tail.
The day before yesterday, she had been brought to tears by her father, who had drunk himself into a complete stupor.
After sobering up, her father went out to comfort her, deciding to help her find some ingredients for mixing drinks.
Of course—on the condition that those ingredients could be used to make terrible alcohol.
As the best hunter in the village, he should have been back by nightfall.
But once he left, there was no news at all.
Her father’s disappearance for an entire day stirred up Diona’s worst memories.
She still remembered a torrential storm from the past—rain that poured for three whole days, during which her father, who had gone out hunting, never returned.
The terrible weather left the Knights of Favonius’ search teams making no progress, and a fear called "loss" enveloped young Diona completely.
Watching the storm violent enough to snap trees in half, Diona, still a child at the time, rushed headlong into the rain without hesitation.
It was then that a wave of cold isolated her completely from the surrounding rainfall.
Relying on that power, and the tracking instincts rooted deep in her bloodline, she found her father sheltering from the rain beneath a cliff.
And this time... It was exactly the same as that day.
She strapped her shaker to her back and took the hunting bow her father had given her on her birthday. This time, Diona didn’t seek help from the Knights of Favonius—she planned to search for her father herself.
Sneaking past Boss Margaret, who had come to Springvale to look for her, Diona nimbly slipped into the forest. Following the traces Draff had left behind, she headed deeper inside.
To some people, a little girl like Diona entering plains filled with monsters alone would be unimaginably dangerous.
In reality, Diona—who possessed a Vision—was already no weaker than some well-known adventurers.
Coupled with the hunting instincts flowing through her blood, she might even feel more at home in the wilderness than in Mondstadt City.
Unfortunately, Draff and the familiar adults of Mondstadt never allowed her to hunt alone.
Unless an adult was accompanying her.
But right now, Diona couldn’t care about that anymore. She only wanted to find her father as soon as possible.
Because she had heard from Knights drinking at the Cat’s Tail that Mondstadt might soon fall into unrest.
She could only hope that her father would be safe.
After passing through a dense stretch of forest, she failed to stop in time and crashed straight into someone.
Before she could leap back and assess the situation, the person expertly grabbed her by the back of the collar, lifting her up like a kitten.
Animal instinct made her instantly wary of the person in front of her.
Just as she was about to teach him a lesson with her sharp teeth and claws, a slightly surprised voice sounded from the side.
"Diona? What are you doing here?"
