Genesis Code: The Genetic Awakening-Chapter 99: Genetic Repair (2)
Chapter 99: Genetic Repair (2)
"Is that..." Anastasia muttered with wide eyes.
"Yes, Your Majesty." Caleb replied. "This is the king’s body profile. But that is not our focus." He didn’t have to reveal all his abilities to them –he’d done enough already.
The image continued to sharpen until it showed the internal network of veins, capillaries and the position of the various organs.
While this was not the first visual imaging for the group, they had never seen anything so detailed on the human body, not to mention, tell the position of all the organs in the body.
"Highlight the injured areas on the profile." The group heard Caleb say as he took off his long coat. "I’ll take care of the interaction..."
The 3D body profile floated in the middle as everyone stood around to observe, fascination in their eyes. Suddenly, many threads within the profile turned red, highlighting the damaged mana channels and core.
"The areas highlighted red are the areas of the damage." With both hands, Caleb made a gesture and zoomed in on the profile. "All his mana channels have been fried. Honestly, I’m not sure what caused this level of damage."
Osbourne gritted his teeth, knowing exactly what did that to his father. While it wasn’t the weapon’s fault, the situation forced the king’s hand.
Seeing the look in the prince and queen’s eyes, Caleb chose to keep his curiosity to the side.
"Under normal circumstances, healing would have done the trick, restoring the damaged channels." Caleb noticed the priestess nod her head at this point. "The issue here is that... The king’s active genes in the cells meant to produce the proteins for repairing are also fried."
"Genes?" Anastasia asked with clear confusion.
"This is what I mean..."
Caleb zoomed in deeper until he saw numerous cells. He picked one out and pushed the body profile to the side, causing Celistra to step back. However, the profile just passed through her body like she wasn’t there, leaving every marvelled.
"Hehe... It’s just mana." Caleb chuckled as he expanded on the cell, eventually reaching the nucleus.
Every action and gestures Caleb made left his viewers fascinated, Daphne in the corner as well. It was like they were being reintroduced to the wonders of magic.
Moreover, they didn’t know the body was this complicated.
’How the hell does he know all this...’ Osbourne thought, subtly looking at Caleb. The prince didn’t want to admit it, but he was finding the man cooler by the second. ’Hah... I must be out of my mind.’
"This is what we call a nucleus, and inside this thing is where our hereditary information is kept." Caleb explained. "It may look big, but I can assure you, it’s very small and can’t be seen with the naked eye."
"This thing...?" Celistra echoed the thoughts of everyone.
"Yep. Fascinating, isn’t it?" He grinned excitedly. "Life is a beautiful thing. Our entire being is packaged in this small baby. Just one small type of cell is capable of making an entire organism!"
Celistra was glad Caleb was happy about his teaching moment, but she and the others were clueless about a lot of the things Caleb was saying.
"I’m sure this is all exciting, but we don’t understand most of what you’re saying. Could you please stay on track?"
"Ah, sorry."
Caleb realized he was going off rails and returned to his presentation.
Under their gazes, Caleb dived into the nucleus and brought out all 23 pairs of chromosomes with descriptions outlining which aspect of genetics they were responsible for.
On the side, Celine wished more than anything to see what was happening. She could hear the fascination and feel the magic in the air. However, she could only listen and hope what her mother mentioned would come true.
"This chromosome here is responsible for the genes associated with mana channels and the core." He said and unraveled the structure, stretching out the genetic sequence for them to see.
"Are those holes supposed to be there?" Osbourne pointed out, getting a glimpse of what Caleb was talking about.
"No." Caleb smiled, glad the prince was getting it. "This is what your father’s problem is. The sequences needed for reading are damaged, that’s why he can’t be healed."
"Then how are you going to change that?" Anastasia asked, her heart racing steadily. "Even if I don’t know much of what you’re saying, those letters aren’t put together randomly, are they?"
"Excellent question." Caleb grinned. "But there’s no need to worry. Almost every cell in the body has a copy of all 23 of these things I pulled out. So even if one is damaged, I can find an exact copy in another cell."
There were usually repair mechanisms to fix damaged DNA in cells. However, the damage the king inflicted on himself was not normal. If it were, he would have been healed already. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Another copy of the damaged DNA popped up beside the damaged ones, and as he aligned them, everyone got to see what the missing letters were.
"All I have to do is put the right letters in their place and healing would take care of the rest."
"I see..." Osbourne muttered with relief, looking over his shoulder to his father. He then turned to is sister. "What about her situation...?" He turned to asked.
Caleb looked at the princess, and couldn’t help but smile softly. The princess’ demeanor gave of such grace and gentleness that it could convince a radical assassin to give up on his job.
"Her situation is a little bit different." Caleb pushed the king’s genome aside and brought the princess’ genome. "She doesn’t have damaged DNA but rather mutated ones."
Caleb highlighted the genes responsible for all the ailments plaguing the princess. And before he could proceed, the queen asked a question.
"How come you know all this when we haven’t told you any of it?" The queen furrowed her brows suspiciously.
The fellow knew too much and this worried her. She feared he may have done something underhanded when they weren’t paying attention.
"The same way I made this interactive display – mana." Caleb gave a short reply, losing the smile on his face. "Now do you want me to continue?"
"Watch your—"
Daphne noticed the cold tone directed at the queen and didn’t like it. However, before she could step forward, the prince raised his hand and stopped her.
"I apologize for that, Mr. Zane." Osbourne got in before things turned dicey. "My mother is just on edge after everything that happened."
Anastasia realized her words had triggered the man as well. He was the only one who could help them and here she was still suspicious of him. She might as well send him back.
"Well, have you ever heard of the saying: Never bite the hand that feeds you?" Caleb suddenly recalled another variation of this saying and couldn’t help but chuckle, dispelling the tense atmosphere.
Naturally, he left his audience confused.
