Gateway of Immortality-Chapter 778: Inside Sky Tower
Qin Sang glanced toward the Sky Tower. That witch race's Spiritual Infant cultivator was still guarding the entrance.
The man surnamed Di explained, "With your cultivation, Daoist Qin, you definitely have the strength to venture into the Sky Tower alone. But as you can see, no one knows when that senior will allow us to enter. I suspect we won’t have much time once the gate opens. There are dangers everywhere within the tower, and we are all rogue cultivators. If we act alone, we might not make it in time. That’s why Daoist Su and I discussed forming a team with a few like-minded rogue cultivators to enter together and break through as quickly as possible. What do you think, Daoist Qin?"
Qin Sang’s expression shifted slightly at these words.
He hadn’t originally planned on gathering allies. Partly because he hadn’t come across suitable candidates, and partly because his own strength was just enough to explore the Sky Tower alone.
No one had expected the current situation to unfold.
Teaming up with other rogue cultivators wasn’t a bad option.
Qin Sang noticed that many of the cultivators in the square had also gathered into small groups. Clearly, they had the same idea as the man surnamed Di.
"I appreciate the two of you thinking so highly of me. But there’s something I don’t quite understand. There are many powerful cultivators in front of the tower. I likely don’t rank very high among them. Why choose me in particular?" Qin Sang didn't agree immediately but answered with a question.
The old woman smiled gently and answered without evasion, "Because I saw you come alone, with my own eyes. That means you’re like us, just a rogue cultivator. The others may have higher cultivation, but their backgrounds are unclear. Some are mysterious and full of hidden intentions. We’d rather not draw the attention of those types. Besides, we’re only joining forces to travel quickly. Once we reach our destination, we’ll part ways. As long as you can handle the dangers along the path, that will be enough. If we find something worth fighting over, we can discuss how to proceed when the time comes. That’s why when Daoist Di asked for my opinion, I recommended you."
The man surnamed Di nodded. "If you still have doubts, Daoist Qin, you’re welcome to speak with the others. Like us, they arrived here alone and were only slightly earlier than you."
As he spoke, he pointed toward the square, where a man and a woman stood at the edge, looking in their direction.
His face lit up. "Looks like Daoist Wu has convinced that female cultivator. If you agree, that’ll make five of us, which is enough. No need to bring in anyone else."
Qin Sang looked over. The man was a witch cultivator, while the woman was from the human race.
That meant the group would consist of three humans and two witch cultivators, making it a rather strange mix. But since it was only a temporary alliance with no conflict of interest, it didn’t matter.
Qin Sang actually recognized each of them.
When he had arrived, all of them had been standing quietly at the outskirts of the square.
He did not hesitate further and accepted their invitation.
No one knew how long they would be waiting to enter the Sky Tower. The five gathered together and held a brief discussion. Qin Sang learned that the female cultivator’s surname was Yin. She also claimed to be a rogue cultivator, and no one questioned it.
Once everything was settled, Qin Sang returned to the forest to continue refining the Golden Jade Lock.
What followed was a dull and patient wait. Some people eventually lost their patience and gave up on the Sky Tower, choosing to search for treasure elsewhere. After all, opportunities to enter Seven-Kill Hall only came once every few decades. After spending so many spirit stones for a spot, continuing to wait might end in total loss.
Qin Sang focused on refining the astra. Not long after, the man surnamed Di suddenly shouted in excitement, "Daoist Qin, come quickly! The gate has opened!"
Qin Sang’s face lit up as well. He hurriedly put away the Golden Jade Lock and flickered through the trees to the edge of the forest. At the entrance of the Sky Tower, the old man was nowhere to be seen. Streaks of evasion light were already rushing into the gate.
By now, Qin Sang had nearly completed the refinement of the Golden Jade Lock. It was just barely usable.
"Where did that senior go?" Qin Sang asked as he met up with the others.
The old woman replied in a low voice, "Just a moment ago, that senior seemed to receive a signal and entered the tower."
Qin Sang was slightly startled. "So the Devil Lord and the grand witch priest still haven’t come out?"
"That’s right," the man surnamed Di said with a serious tone, "Everyone, be careful. If the battle between the Spiritual Infant cultivators is still ongoing, we must avoid getting caught in it."
The group’s expressions turned grim. But at this point, no one could afford to retreat. They all moved at full speed, rushing into the Sky Tower one after another.
As each cultivator passed through, ripples like water spread across the entrance.
Qin Sang reached the tower’s gate, glanced up briefly, then charged straight in without hesitation. A wave of vertigo struck him, and darkness swallowed everything.
Even with all the information he had gathered and the mental preparation he had made, Qin Sang still felt deeply shaken when he saw what lay inside. He stood frozen, speechless.
He was now in an unfamiliar space, completely shrouded in darkness. It felt as if this place had never known sunlight. The endless shadow pressed down on the soul, sending chills through the heart.
In the depths of the darkness, strands of azure light floated like stars.
These glowing lights varied in size and shape.
Some were long and narrow, stretching several li.
Many were only the size of a stone, sparkling like stardust.
There were also massive clusters of light, hundreds of zhang across.
Only upon closer inspection did they realize that the azure light was radiating from various fragments of buildings made entirely of azure bricks.
The narrow streams of light were actually long corridors with no visible end, leading who knew where.
And within those massive clusters of light, entire ancient halls floated, glowing with a deep azure radiance that exuded an eerie and mysterious aura.
All of the buildings were severely damaged. The smaller clusters of light were nothing more than shattered remains—broken walls and cracked tiles left after the complete destruction of structures.
Every building was utterly lifeless, floating silently in the darkness. There was no trace of human presence, no sign of any living aura. They radiated a bleak, apocalyptic desolation.
When these buildings had still been intact, this must have once been a vast and magnificent complex. What lay before them now was merely scattered fragments drifting in the void, like the pieces of a broken puzzle.
The space within the Sky Tower had been shattered, yet for some unknown reason, it had not collapsed into spatial rifts or unleashed spatial storms. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
The space remained stable, but the ancient halls had long lost their former glory.
As for the ancient cultivators, there was no telling what had become of them.
Right below Qin Sang’s feet was a piece of a broken wall. He descended and struck out with his spiritual sword, thrusting it hard against the surface.
With a metallic clang, the azure light on the wall flared, and the ebony sword was easily repelled, bouncing off without leaving a single mark.
Even the barriers on these broken walls were beyond their ability to destroy.
"Daoist Qin, you’re here."
The voice of the female cultivator surnamed Yin came from behind him. Qin Sang turned and flew over to her, glancing around. "The other three aren't nearby. Looks like the vortex at the entrance scattered us. Let’s send out the signal."
The woman nodded, and together they sent out the agreed-upon signal.
Soon, the remaining three regrouped and arrived one after another.
"I’ve heard stories about the Sky Tower before," the man surnamed Di said, his voice filled with awe, "but I nearly froze when I saw it for myself. What kind of terrifying battle must have taken place to destroy this place so thoroughly?"
Everyone present shared his sentiment and murmured in agreement.
The old woman reminded them, "Time is short. Let’s hurry to the teleportation hall."
