Chapter 742: Chapter 755: Take Me to Find Daddy

As soon as she got off the bus, she saw Mu Xingfeng pulling that girl into the teahouse. She had known Mu Xingfeng for so long and had never known that he would treat someone, especially a woman, in such a manner.

He casually held the girl’s waist, but in a way that indicated complete possession, and the hint of softness in his gaze at the girl, along with the slight curve of his lips, were things she had never seen in this man before.

Wang Xia couldn’t help but clench her fists. Just wait, wait a little longer; everything was going to change. He could only ever be Rong’s dad.

"Chenggang, you go back first. I’ll pick up Rong and take him home," Wang Xia said to Jia Chenggang as they reached the kindergarten.

Jia Chenggang paused for a moment getting out of the car, then turned back and said, "Wang Xia, what nonsense are you talking? Rong is not feeling well. How could I leave you both alone at a time like this? If you don’t want me to appear in front of the teacher and the kids, I’ll wait in the car. Let’s see how Rong is doing and decide if he needs to see a doctor."

Wang Xia nodded, "Thank you, Chenggang."

"Don’t be silly, just go."

After a short while, Wang Xia brought Rong out of the kindergarten. His delicate little face bore an expression of weariness beyond his years. He opened the car door and got in.

"Rong, where do you feel unwell? Sit properly; Uncle Jia will take you to the hospital for a check-up," Jia Chenggang said kindly, looking at Rong in the back seat.

Rong raised his eyes, his large, black, grape-like eyes showing a hint of coldness, "No need, Uncle Jia. I’m feeling much better. Mom is just overreacting. If you have time, just take us home directly."

Jia Chenggang glanced at Wang Xia, who patted her son’s head, "Listen to Rong, let’s go straight home. Oh, and there’s a market nearby; I’ll buy some groceries. Stay for dinner this evening."

Jia Chenggang, flattered, quickly started the car and drove toward the market.

Back home, Wang Xia went into the kitchen to prepare dinner, while Rong stared at Jia Chenggang with wide eyes.

He couldn’t understand why Mom kept bringing this uncle home; when they left Imperial City, she had promised to take him to find Dad.

But two months had passed, and he hadn’t seen Dad once.

Mom had said that Uncle Jia was Dad’s comrade, and as long as he behaved, Uncle Jia would help them find Dad.

Jia Chenggang placed a chess piece on the board, then lifted his head and noticed Rong staring at him thoughtfully. He forced a friendly smile, "Rong, what are you thinking?"

Rong asked, "Uncle Jia, you and Dad were comrades, right?"

"Yes, very close comrades," Jia Chenggang replied, remembering how he and Haigang had joined the army the same year, were in the same unit, and trained and completed missions together; they were brothers through life and death.

Hearing this, a bright light flickered in Rong’s large, grape-like eyes, "Then Uncle Jia, when will Dad come to see me?"

Jia Chenggang felt a chill run down his spine. He turned his stiff neck to look around, "Rong, Dad is always watching you. You’re so clever and well-behaved; he must be very pleased."

Rong seemed dissatisfied with the answer, leaning his small body forward, "Otherwise, Uncle Jia, take me to find Dad. I really miss him."

"Clang," the chess piece in Jia Chenggang’s hand fell onto the table, and his hairs stood on end, "Rong, Uncle Jia can’t take you to find Dad."

"Why not?" Rong stared at him with wide eyes, full of disbelief, "Is it because you don’t have the ability, Uncle Jia?"
