Chapter 287: 287. The trio goes to work

Henry’s POV

Dr. Lawrence interlocked her fingers, contemplating what to say for a short moment. "I know. I know that we are lucky it is you two and nobody else."

"Good." I stepped to her desk and used the landline to call Ethan’s number.

"Ethan Hendricks speaking?"

"Ethan."

"I am on my way to you. We couldn’t reach you for two days." He sounded fatigued.

"Good. Come to Kenny’s and my room to talk." I hung up before walking wordlessly out of the office.

I went to the elevator and took it upstairs, going to our room.

The nurses in front of our door looked at me strangely before they let me in.

Once inside, I went to the nightstand and flung it to the other side of the room before I stepped on it to rip the camera from the wall.

I dissolved the camera until there were only ashes left before coming down from my makeshift ladder and sitting on Kenny’s bed.

It was freshly made, so even if I pressed his pillow or blanket against my nose, I couldn’t even perceive a trace of his scent.

I went to the bathroom, but there were no dirty clothes in the laundry basket either.

I pulled my sleeve up to sink my teeth into my arm to hold myself back from screaming.

I lose him and lose him and lose him.

It happened again and again and again and again.

And I can’t take it anymore.

Any dizziness from the sedatives had already worn off, at the latest when my body had been dissolved through the teleporting. But now, I felt queasy, also because of the teleporting.

I needed to train. I needed to find the rest of the people who had conspired against Kenny. I needed to update Ethan on the situation regarding any possible charges that could come his way.

I wanted to know, desperately, if Dr. Thompson and the skinny guy were still alive, to randomly pop up at some time and continue to be a threat to Kenny.

Well, originally nobody could be a threat to him anymore, but then these little unexpected situations would happen.

I was clear about the fact that even if I hadn’t shielded him, he would have been able to evade the bullets, or they at least wouldn’t have really harmed him. I know that because each time I tasted his blood, I felt myself become considerably stronger—he should be at a level where guns were simply child’s play for him.

But at that moment, my body had reacted on its own, and I would do it again.

I am so sick of losing him.

Tasting my own blood, which hopefully still had a bit of Kenny’s in it, I finally let go of my arm, my eyes falling on my wrist, where two bracelets dangled, one red and one blue.

I chuckled. "You left that here with me?"

"You didn’t want to get tracked because you were bringing these two motherfuckers to their graves?"

"Kenny, have you killed for me again?"

"How can this be such a turn-on?" I looked at the tent in my pants.

The fact that the protector would turn into an avenger just for my sake got me aroused and giddy.

He had a talent for presents, for being charming, for being handsome, and for disappearing on me.

I stroked the red bracelet before rinsing out my bite wound that was gradually closing up again.

After that I looked at my image in the mirror, my eyes wandering to my collar.

What does it help if I was the one who was collared when my master was the one needing a chain to tie him to my side? I was always where I should be, but what about him?

I heard the door open, and after looking down and seeing that I had calmed down, I left the bathroom.

Not only did Ethan step in the room, but Kenny’s grandma did as well.

"What has he done this time?" She snarled, looking around the room and peeking into the open bathroom to find her grandson.

Ethan followed her gaze before he pushed his glasses up.

"What happened, Henry?"

"Kenny is inside the currently closest parallel world to ours."

Mrs. Howard narrowed her eyes at me, her hold on her walking stick tightening. Eventually she walked to the bed that was supposed to be mine and sat down.

"Back to the world we escaped from?" Ethan asked.

"No, the parallel worlds are moving; this time, he is in a crystal world—hard to describe." I said, leaning against the bathroom door after closing it.

"Did he flee? Not content with being locked up?" Mrs. Howard knocked her walking stick against the ground, but her expression was full of worry.

"One of the patients attempted to shoot him—he is alright," I said, turning to Mrs. Howard.

"But things happened, and the power he gained from the giant seemed to have acted up, teleporting him to that parallel world." I clenched my jaw, feeling the overwhelming urge to scream again.

Mrs. Howard rammed her walking stick into the floor, making a small mold in the white vinyl flooring, but remained silent otherwise.

"Kenny probably killed the culprits after their attempt had been unsuccessful."

For me.

He killed them for me.

I looked at Ethan.

"Kenny teleported away with the patient, and apparently, a doctor disappeared as well."

"Are you sure they are dead?" Ethan asked, all calm and collected.

"Ninety to ten, I’d say yes," I answered.

"Do we know where their bodies are?"

"No, neither we nor anyone else should know." I raised my hand, showing off the two bracelets with the trackers. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Ethan glanced at them and nodded.

"So, I take it the doctor had something to do with the patient acquiring the gun?"

"I think so, yes."

"Since we hadn’t been informed, and I saw neither police nor military, the center wants to keep this incident under wraps?"

"Correct." I nodded shortly; it was always a pleasure to speak with someone quick to understand.

"What was her name?" Mrs. Howard asked Ethan, changing the topic.

"Dr. Cecile Lawrence, the daughter of Eugene Junior Lawrence and granddaughter of Eugene Senior Lawrence," Ethan advised.

"Let’s go visit daughter Lawrence before taking a look at that junior." She stood up.

"You are already aware that the Lawrence family is behind the center?" I asked Mrs. Howard.

She just snorted at me, looking down on me though she was a lot smaller than me.

"You two have already been here for a few days; I wouldn’t need longer than that to find out everything I wanted to know."

She stepped to Ethan’s side, her whole stance showing a raging dragon beneath the well-put-together facade.

"After talking to them, we will visit the prison." She nodded at me in the midst of leaving when I stopped her.

"I have already talked to Kenny’s counterpart."

She stopped and looked at me, displeased.

"Should this old lady beg you, or will you spit it out?"

I chuckled.

"Kenny will soon come back to the center. However, his counterpart also saw me appear inside the crystal world at a later point."

"Good, at least that imbecile knows his way home." Mrs. Howard nodded and walked out the door, with Ethan following her.

I stared at the room that seemed to be so empty without Kenny’s presence. That was all we could do. Prepare everything until he comes back.

Now was the start of my own investigation, questioning a few people, for example, Skinny Guy’s friends.
