Chapter 286: 286. (In) Decent human being

Henry’s POV

"Oh, fuck."

Kenny3 had raised his head, recognizing me in the dimly lit cell.

"Why are you here? And how did you even...?" He turned around to confirm that the door to his cell was closed.

I crouched down beside him and grabbed his hand.

"Read my future. When am I meeting my Kenny again?"

"Is he gone again?" Kenny3 laughed.

"Aiaiai. That brother is a bit restless, isn’t he?"

I still held his hand and punched him in the face with both his and mine combined.

"Aahhh..." He groaned, holding his nose.

"Is that really necessary?"

"Read it. The future." I commanded.

I saw him close his eyes for a while, pressing them together here and there as he tried to get a vision.

"Ah." He snapped his eyes open.

"You guys will make out in some strange world." He seemed fairly entertained.

"I knew it. I knew you were hopelessly in love."

I again punched his face with both our hands, the relief nearly making me delirious.

He was alive.

"How does this world look? How do I get there?"

"How can you injure your lover’s face?" Kenny3 groaned dramatically.

"You look nothing like him. Go on, how does the world look? How do I get there?" I couldn’t hide my disgust.

That Kenny3 was invading our private moments was enough reason to kill him on the spot. Regrettably, his ability was too precious to do that.

"Okay. Stop the punching. I don’t know; it was dark, but the forest looked as if it were made of beads or something."

"Crystals?" I asked him.

"Yes."

So Kenny was in the crystal world he had dreamed of. Maybe the overwhelming power of the giant had brought him there by accident, or...he was again on a suicide mission.

My stomach churned; the terrorizing thoughts of losing him this time for real nearly overwhelmed me.

"How did he look? Was he okay?"

"I mean, you guys were sucking faces, so he seemed alright enough for that." There was a lewd grin on Kenny3’s face.

Disgusting; that thing was no part of Kenny, just some vermin that stole his looks and name.

I grabbed his neck, choking him.

"Do you want to die? Because right now, you seem to be begging for it."

I waited until he was about to pass out before I let go and slapped him awake.

"How do I get to him?" I asked while he coughed his lungs out.

"Wait a moment..." Kenny3 was back to behaving again. He closed his eyes while taking in air rapidly, then opened them a few seconds later.

"I saw you talking to a blonde girl, and you told her that ’it was really Kenny’ who came to you. You both were walking down a white corridor, wearing white, like what you are wearing now. That conversation felt like it would happen soon."

He would come back to me, and soon at that.

I let out a long sigh.

He was alive, and he would come to me.

"What about the crystal world?" I asked him.

"That felt like it would happen after your conversation with the blond girl." He said, wiping his nose with his other hand, Apparently, he had a nosebleed—from his ability and not from the punching.

"Here, I am already bleeding; are you happy?"

"I will wait a day. If he isn’t here by then, I will come for you again." I let go of his hand and wrapped mine with shadowy energy to wave threateningly in front of Kenny3’s face.

"You don’t need legs to get visions; you don’t need your eyes either. Until I come back, think of what you would like to let go first." I broke into a smile. I wouldn’t bring it upon myself to really cripple someone who looked similar to Kenny, but he doesn’t need to know that.

He nodded shortly, intimidated.

"I just told you what I saw. I can’t guarantee anything."

"I give a fuck about that. The moment your words left your mouth, you put your body parts on the line. I will come again, so behave and don’t bring any more disgrace to the name you are using." I stood up and wanted to let the acid in my veins spread through my body, but then I thought of something and stopped.

"Why did you confess to the murder of Henrietta, the girl you’re in jail for now?" To the murder of Henrietta2, to be more precise.

Kenny3 averted my gaze and looked at the wall across from him, his expression turning somber, as if he were looking at something far away. His whole demeanor shifted from that of a serial killer junkie to how my Kenny looked.

"The ’me’ here seems like a much better person. If he has the chance for a happy life, he should live it for both of us, and that in freedom." He looked down at his hands.

I nodded shortly, not liking that the person I was looking at was overlapping so much with Kenny.

I let the acid spread through my body and disappeared under the eyes of Kenny3, his melancholia clearly replaced by horror and curses when he saw the shadowy energy engulf my body.

Now that I was looking forward to reuniting with my Kenny again, the pain felt a lot more intense, but I needed to get used to it. I needed to train this ability, and soon, even if Kenny teleported into another world, I would appear right beside him.

I thought of Dr. Lawrence and felt the foreign power put me back together inside her office. The Gothic girl, this time with no makeup on, was also there as well.

The former sighed, and the latter screamed at my sudden appearance.

"Calm down, Bianca." Dr. Lawrence told the girl.

"I can’t take any more surprises." She sniffled, but her state of mind was utterly uninteresting to me.

"What did you find out?" I asked Dr. Lawrence.

"It hasn’t been long since you left... Bianca, tell him."

I looked at the girl, and while avoiding my gaze, she started to talk.

"Dr. Thompson seemed really nervous about Kennith Howard’s disappearance. He instantly dragged me to the panic room the moment he spotted me inside the grand hall." Her eyes flitted to me.

"That was when everyone had gathered in the hall because of the electricity blackout."

I chuckled.

"Tell me something I don’t know. Naturally, something is wrong with that motherfucker if Kenny had done something to him."

The Gothic girl without makeup grabbed her neck as if recalling something unpleasant before shutting up altogether.

"And? Call logs, surveillance cameras, their phones, any laptops? What have you done until now? How did a weapon make its way inside a facility full of traumatized patients?" I asked, my patience running thin.

Dr. Lawrence exchanged a look with Bianca.

"We don’t know if Dr. Thompson acted alone... but if he didn’t, what are you going to do with the other perpetrators?" She asked me.

I gave her a friendly smile.

Is that even a question?

"I will dissolve them so that it will be as if they had never existed."

Dr. Lawrence looked at her desk and cleared her throat.

"We can’t let you kill people."

"Who is going to stop me?" I asked her.

"You?" I chuckled.

"How about you show a bit of gratitude that it is me and Kenny who have these powers, and not someone who attacks innocent citizens at random?"

Dr. Lawrence looked at me, startled.

"We kill only if we have been attacked first. Don’t waste your time thinking about how to stop us, and be thankful that although we are powerful, we are still behaving like decent human beings." I deepened my voice to make sure that my point got across.

"Though I may as well change into an indecent human being if you continue to stall the investigation."

"I will use your phone to contact my attorney now, and I want you to use your authority as the big boss’s daughter to gather all the info on how a DOCTOR and a PATIENT managed to COLLABORATE, attempting to SHOOT MY PARTNER."
