Chapter 459: Chapter 458 You Misunderstood My Meaning

After hanging up the phone, Nia Mitchell noticed that Maxwell Peary hadn’t returned yet, so she decided to call Fiona Sutton as well.

"Hey, finally remembered this old gal?"

Fiona Sutton was sitting cross-legged on a stool, staring at job postings on her computer, submitting one resume after another.

"Have you found a job yet?" Nia Mitchell asked. She thought it best to check first, in case Fiona had already found one.

Fiona Sutton was speechless for a moment. Nia, what do you mean by that?

"Nia Mitchell, are you deliberately trying to rub it in my face? You know I’m facing the biggest hurdle of my life finding a job, and you still—damn it!"

Never mind, no more. This is just pouring salt on the wound.

That damned Yancy Hastings! I’ll definitely make him pay.

Expecting me to show weakness and go to him?

Not a chance!

Fiona Sutton gnashed her teeth, wishing she could tear Yancy Hastings to shreds.

Hearing Fiona’s outburst, Nia Mitchell understood the situation.

"Actually, I called to tell you that I just phoned Star Media. They happen to be short-staffed and want you to go over tomorrow."

Fiona Sutton was stunned, finding it hard to process what Nia Mitchell had just said.

"You found me a job?"

She sat there, dazed, halting what she was doing to ask Nia Mitchell with utmost seriousness.

"I guess you could say that. Anyway, go check it out tomorrow. I was too embarrassed to ask about the other details."

So, as for the salary, benefits, and other conditions, she’d have to assess those herself.

"Okay, thank you so much! You’re truly my lucky star! Tomorrow, right?"

Fiona Sutton immediately grabbed some interview materials from the table and scanned them, wondering if anything was amiss.

Nia Mitchell smiled; she could just imagine Fiona’s expression.

After exchanging a few more quick words, she hung up as Maxwell Peary and Yancy Hastings walked in.

"You’re back? I’m already full."

Nia Mitchell smiled sweetly at Maxwell Peary. Noticing Yancy Hastings’ expression, she refrained from asking the question that was foremost on her mind.

"Mm, I was indeed gone a little too long."

Maxwell Peary’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly as he shot a cool glance at Yancy Hastings.

Yancy Hastings caught Maxwell Peary’s gaze and was momentarily stunned.

"You misunderstood what I meant."

Nia Mitchell’s face flushed slightly. She hadn’t been complaining at all, just stating a fact.

Besides, she was already full, and Maxwell Peary hadn’t really eaten yet. He must be very hungry.

"Mm, I misunderstood."

Maxwell Peary went along with her words, but there wasn’t a hint of sincerity in his tone, as if he didn’t believe a single thing she said.

Whenever he acted like this, Nia Mitchell felt especially frustrated.

"Why don’t we order a couple of new dishes? These have gone cold," Nia Mitchell suggested.

"Yes, you should eat with us too," Maxwell Peary said, looking up at Yancy Hastings. He figured Yancy probably hadn’t eaten either.

Yancy Hastings raised his hand to check his watch and shook his head.

"There’s something at the base in forty minutes. I shouldn’t delay."

With that, Yancy Hastings turned to leave.

Just then, the door to the private room opened, and Evelyn Peary walked in carrying a bowl of steaming hot noodles.

"Eat."

Placing the noodles on the table, Evelyn Peary looked at Yancy Hastings, her expression unreadable.

Yancy Hastings paused in his departure. Looking at the steaming noodles on the table, a warmth spread through his heart.
