Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 51 - 52: Buried in a Sea of Fire?
The Bear Beast shuddered, his voice filled with disbelief. "Xue’er, our tribe’s food and half our supplies are still in there! If you set it all on fire, what will our people eat on the road?"
"Say one more foolish word, and I’ll dissolve our bond as mates!"
’This stupid bear is getting on my last nerve!’ Lin Xixue thought. ’So petty and short-sighted. As long as I destroy that native female’s things, my own will be the only ones of their kind—uniquely precious.’
’Won’t the salt I can trade for be worth far more than that useless food?!’
As for food on the road?
’What did she think those small, wandering tribes were for? They were practically walking pantries, just waiting to "deliver" food to them.’
A few torches were thrown.
Tongues of flame licked across the hot, oil-soaked ground, spreading rapidly. The blaze devoured everything in its path with a furious CRACKLE and POP. Choking black smoke blotted out the sun as the inferno swelled, with flames soaring tens of meters high. The very air shimmered and warped from the scorching heat.
A sudden, fierce gust of wind fanned the flames, driving the inferno toward the far edge of the clearing. Everything in its path was incinerated.
Snake Beasts have a natural fear of fire.
The slightest heat can feel like being boiled alive, a pain so excruciating it drives them to madness.
The hot oil clinging to his snake tail ignited in an instant. Waves of heat washed over him, scraping at his skin like sharp blades. The dry, scorching air made Mi Yin’s skin crack and flush red.
The inferno was everywhere, and black smoke blocked all sight. There was no possibility of escape.
Mi Yin held An Jin tight. The intense heat sapped the strength from his body, leaving him limp. His snake tail coiled protectively, but his consciousness was already beginning to fade into chaos.
His arms began to go slack, his grip loosening without his consent. Amidst the towering inferno, he held the female in his embrace, as if they were destined to be entombed in fire together.
’To die with one’s mate... for a Snake Beast, so often abandoned, perhaps this is a rare, beautiful end.’
Mi Yin gave up the will to fight.
An Jin’s eyes fluttered open. Her vision was a blur of black smoke; she couldn’t see a thing. All she could feel was the cool, jade-like embrace holding her from behind.
The searing heat was unbearable. She whimpered, her voice thick with unshed tears, "So hot... It hurts..."
His half-lidded red eyes snapped wide open.
She curled into a ball in his arms, writhing in pain. The blistering heat had already cooked her skin until it was scalding to the touch. Her features contorted as she fought back tears, subconsciously clinging tighter to the last bit of coolness he offered.
A sharp pang of anguish pierced Mi Yin’s usually placid heart.
"I won’t let you die."
His cool, slender fingers threaded through her long, kelp-like hair. Mi Yin’s words were as solid as a vow. He turned and slithered into the towering inferno.
The fire had already spread for miles, swallowing everything.
Even the giant eagle soaring high above could no longer see what was happening inside the blaze. One could only imagine the grim scene: everything incinerated, not even bones left behind.
With the potential threat eliminated, Lin Xixue was in high spirits. ’Now my things will be one-of-a-kind,’ she thought smugly. ’Beast Gathering City will surely trade heaps of precious food and salt for them.’
The more Lin Xixue thought about it, the prouder she became. ’How could these simple-minded, primitive Beastmen possibly outsmart me?’
’Those idiots back in the 21st century never recognized my genius. Now that I’ve been reborn, everyone will witness my greatness and intelligence. They will all bow down and worship me.’
Lin Xixue and the Barbarian Bear Tribe departed with the rest of their people.
Manduo saw the dark shadow of the eagle soaring away in the distance and knew the plan was complete. Only then did he casually inform a tribe member, "We’ve been robbed! An Jin is missing! Go find Lord Ling Hong and bring him back, quickly!"
But what no one noticed was a black and red snake tail emerging from the inferno before vanishing instantly into the jungle.
The black and red tail had been doused in scalding oil, and flames still blazed fiercely across its length. The prolonged burning had seared his scales, causing them to curl back and reveal flesh that was already charred black.
As the raw, burnt flesh scraped against the rough dirt, it already showed signs of festering and infection.
Yet Mi Yin seemed to feel no pain. Ignoring the waves of heat and the sea of fire, he clung to his last shred of consciousness, protecting the unharmed female in his arms as he slithered rapidly toward a nearby stream.
