Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 48 - 49: The Snake Beast Follows
Many of the young beastmen got upset stomachs from eating the adults’ unwanted scraps. The pain would make their faces turn pale, and they would writhe on the ground.
An Jin brewed them a medicinal soup according to the tribe’s folk remedy, but they nearly threw it up after a single sip.
"BLECH, BLECH! It’s so bitter, Sister Ah Jin..."
The little ones’ faces turned green, tears welling in their eyes as they clawed at their throats, trying to spit it out.
An Jin took out a few sugar blocks and melted them into the steaming medicinal soup. "Try it again. See if it’s a little better? Your stomachs won’t get better if you don’t drink your medicine."
The little ones licked their dry lips. The bitter residue around their mouths churned their stomachs. They looked timidly at An Jin, but finally picked up their stone bowls and drank it all in one go.
Huh? It’s sweet!!
The little ones’ eyes lit up.
An Jin bent down and ruffled their heads as if she were petting kittens. "I’ll make more sugar from now on, so your medicine won’t be bitter anymore. And remember, don’t eat spoiled meat or wild vegetables."
"Okay!"
The little ones chirped, their ears perked high and their tails wagging happily behind them. They had committed that sweet thing called "sugar" to memory.
The seasons in the Beast World were divided into the Warm Season, the Rainy Season, and the Cold Season.
It was currently late in the Warm Season, and most tribes had mobilized in full force for the upcoming exchange.
They had to transport vital supplies back to their tribes before the Rainy Season began.
Otherwise, any beastmen caught on the road would be washed away by terrifying downpours, and the tribes themselves, lacking supplies, would face the risk of mass starvation and collapse.
The journey, which spanned dozens of miles, was fraught with peril. High mountains, long roads, steep cliffs, and countless swamps and rivers all presented endless obstacles and hidden dangers.
Even more so, they had to be on high alert for sneak attacks and raids from neighboring tribes.
Especially during this period of tribal exchange before the Rainy Season, beastmen were desperate to hoard supplies and food, making such vicious raids all the more intense and frequent.
The Luoten Tribe, along with other powerful neighboring tribes, left half their beastmen behind to guard their settlements. This was to prevent raids by other tribes with ulterior motives, which would mean all their efforts would be for nothing.
In the tribal square, beastmen hauled prey of all sizes like ants moving a mountain. Just watching them from the sidelines made An Jin’s limbs feel weak.
"Aren’t you guys tired?"
The males lifted their chins and puffed out their chests. "We’re so strong, of course we’re not tired!"
’Sigh, they were actually exhausted, but they could never admit weakness in front of a female.’
An Jin chuckled in amusement. She found a stick, crouched down, and sketched a diagram of a simple cart in the damp earth—a few interlocking wooden planks and some round wheels that could be easily assembled.
Following An Jin’s instructions, one edge of the stone blades was fashioned into a jagged, serrated shape, like the fangs of a wild beast. This made it easy to cut down flat, thick pieces of wood.
The male beastmen were already incredibly strong, and with the help of the serrated stone blades, they cut down enough wood to fill a house in just half a day. Following An Jin’s instructions, they then fashioned it into dozens of planks and some passably round wheels.
Using mortise and tenon joinery, they assembled about ten simple, nimble carts. They loaded the mountain-like piles of supplies onto the carts, freeing up a significant amount of manpower.
The freed-up beastmen were then assigned to guard the supplies and scout the path ahead.
Resources around their tribe were scarce, but the upcoming tribal exchange in Beast Gathering City would bring together a hundred or so surrounding tribes, along with all their unique goods.
An Jin was hopeful. Iron-smelting, house-building, and pottery were all essential, and it was only in a more developed Beastman City that she might find the necessary materials.
If she could find Tong Fruit, she could extract Tung Oil to coat the wood, protecting it from insects and allowing them to build sturdy wooden houses.
There was no precedent for a female to attend the tribal exchange, but thanks to An Jin’s recent contributions, the Clan Leader had readily agreed to let her accompany them.
In the dark, damp jungle, a black and red snake tail slithered back and forth, leaving the tracks of a massive creature in the dark soil.
A hand with well-defined knuckles rested on a dark, cracked tree trunk. With a slight exertion of force, the trunk splintered and crashed to the ground.
Those bewitching, scarlet eyes, gloomy as the evening mist, stared intently. Their bloodthirsty, needle-like vertical pupils followed the great procession as it receded into the distance.
No.
To be more precise, his gaze was locked entirely on the slender female resting on one of the carts, his expression a mixture of suspicion and anger.
’That tribe actually let that little female go?’
’Why?’
’Doesn’t anyone know how treacherous the trade journey is?’
Just as the group was about to disappear from sight, Mi Yin transformed directly into a giant black and red python, shot forward dozens of meters, and followed close behind...
