Chapter 377: Chapter 251: Sending to Kindergarten

Ling Hong had made a large pot of slippery mushroom and tofu soup today. The rich, white broth emanated a fragrant aroma. The dining table was also laden with fish and shrimp sushi, which An Jin loved. Even skillful dishes like clay pot chicken stewed with Sichuan peppercorns and steamed egg custard with scallion oil were prepared masterfully.

"Awoo~"

The cubs, eating at the table for the first time, were extremely excited.

An Jin smiled and placed a few pieces of tender, melt-in-your-mouth chicken on their plates. "Awoo!" The cubs splayed their paws in delight, clumsily trying to hold chopsticks like the adults. But the chopsticks would fall the moment they picked them up. After several failed attempts, two chopsticks had fallen right to the floor.

The eldest was starving. It paid no mind to manners, simply following the scent and using its paws to stuff meat into its mouth.

Seeing that their mother and father didn’t object, the second cub gleefully copied the eldest, starting to deftly grab meat with its paws.

The third cub glanced left and right, but stubbornly and primly continued to grip its chopsticks, attempting to get the meat into its mouth.

"SPLAT~"

The meat slipped from its chopsticks mid-air, landing on the table and splattering a few drops of sauce.

"Awoo?"

Exasperated but amused, An Jin grabbed a nearby cloth to wipe the table clean. Then, she simply lifted the third cub onto her lap and began to feed it.

Thankfully, the third cub was the smallest and lightest. With its fluffy white fur, it looked just like a well-made plush toy, feeling practically weightless in her arms.

’Awoo~ It feels so nice to be fed by Mama.’

Seeing this, the eldest and second cubs grew jealous and began pawing at her calves, demanding to be fed by her hand as well. But with their size and weight, they would have simply crushed An Jin on the spot.

Mi Yin frowned. With a flick of his tail, he swept the two cubs causing a ruckus on the floor to the side. His cold gaze fell upon the third cub as he set his chopsticks down on the table with a CLATTER.

The icy stare made all the fur on the third cub stand on end.

"Jin’er, didn’t you set up that preschool? They’re not so little anymore. Can’t you send them over now?" ’These three furry brats really get on my nerves the more I look at them,’ he thought. ’Jin’er used to be the one putting food on my plate, but now she’s so busy with these cubs she’s all but forgotten I exist.’

Mi Yin strongly disapproved of coddling the cubs. It could easily cause them to develop a strong fixation on their mother, turning them into potential rivals.

After all, females were so rare in the Beast World that there was no taboo against unions between close relatives. This wasn’t much of an issue in ordinary tribes, but among Wandering Beasts, where females were exceptionally scarce, absurd cases of sons killing their fathers to claim their mothers were known to happen. Such possibilities filled Mi Yin with an instinctual wariness and disgust.

"Huh? Isn’t that too early?" An Jin stroked the third cub, feeling the small, sharp teeth that had just fully grown in. "I want to wait until they’re a little older before sending them to preschool. They’re too little now. This is the age for being mischievous and getting into trouble; they won’t learn anything."

"It’s not too early. They grow faster than other cubs their age." For once, Ling Hong found himself on the same side as Mi Yin. He added, "They’ll just get bored if they’re left to run wild at home all day. It’s better to just send them to the preschool to play with the other cubs."

An Jin nodded. "That could work, I suppose." As she spoke, she fed the third cub a sweet, tender, and juicy little red berry.

...

「Three days later.」

The secret squad had captured all the spies in the city and brought them to justice. These spies were originally Beastmen from the city, but they had been forced to obey a shadowy figure after being implanted with a Slave Seed.

Although they all claimed they had only betrayed the city to survive, An Jin wasn’t falling for that excuse anymore.

As the city expanded, more and more tribes and Beastmen arrived seeking refuge. The quality of these newcomers was a mixed bag, and they were far from being as loyal as the first groups who had joined them.

After she had the Slave Seeds removed from their bodies, An Jin had no intention of letting them stay. However, she couldn’t just drive them out yet.

’After all... they still have one last bit of value for me to exploit.’

A quick apology to my dear readers. Lianzi has been swamped lately. It’s the last two weeks of the semester—the final project crunch—and I’m buried in design drafts, papers, and exams every day, so I haven’t had much time to update.

Plus, the story is approaching its later stages, and I need to carefully plan the plot. Therefore, from today until the 16th of the month, I’ll be shifting to a more relaxed update schedule. I’ll do my best to post daily, but the updates might not be as long as you’re used to.

After the 16th, my winter break will start, and updates will return to their normal length! Please don’t give up on me, my dears! (っ﹏-)
