Chapter 277: Chapter 184: Possessiveness and the Troubles of Having Many Men

An Jin jumped in fright, quickly getting to her feet and running from under the unsteady tree to his side.

Gu Yin lowered his head, his gaze fixed silently on her swollen lips. His expression was dangerous, his jawline tight.

The red was so glaring it made his entire body tremble with rage.

He reached out and scrubbed at her lips, trying to violently wipe away the other male’s scent.

"HISS..." The skin on An Jin’s lips nearly split.

Gu Yin froze, but the fire coiled in his heart only burned hotter, threatening to set his entire serpentine form ablaze. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

The only reason he had been willing to accept Ling Hong was that the Wolf Beast seemed docile, easy to control, and wouldn’t compete for affection. But now, it was clear he had been careless.

As a wandering Snake Beast, Gu Yin had a need for control and possession so intense it was terrifying. It was an instinct etched into his very bones, one that could never be erased.

He might be able to reluctantly endure his mate having another male, but that didn’t mean he could stand by impassively and watch that male steal his status and affection, much less kiss her so shamelessly in the forest.

He was so furious he felt like he was going to lose his mind.

’So he saw us after all,’ An Jin thought to herself. ’I wonder how long Gu Yin was standing in the shadows, watching the "show." He’d completely concealed his presence; neither I nor Ling Hong had noticed him.’

"You shouldn’t be out in weather this cold. What if you fall asleep on the way here? You could get hurt." Even though she knew no beast could easily harm him, she grasped for a topic to distract him.

"I’m not cold. There’s a fire burning in my chest. I’m very hot."

An Jin was at a loss for words.

She gently took his hand. It was deathly cold. Pressing his icy palm to her cheek to warm it, she said, "No, you’re cold."

Gu Yin froze, his gaze fixed on the concern in her eyes. The anger in his heart couldn’t help but subside a little. "Jin’er..." He couldn’t resist bending down to pull her into his arms.

’He was only angry because he was worried. Worried that she didn’t like him, didn’t care about him, that she would start to ignore him...’

’He was afraid that his share of her love would be stolen by another male.’

"Then who do you like most?" Gu Yin murmured, his voice demanding. He stared into her eyes, unwilling to miss the slightest flicker of emotion, while his own heart pounded like a drum.

An Jin wrapped both her hands around his. She lowered her head and exhaled, her warm breath ghosting over his icy fingers.

The tip of the snake’s dangling tail curled unconsciously, muscles tensing until it was wound into a tight spiral, just like a mosquito coil.

She replied without a second thought, "Of course I like you the most."

Her soft, warm palms covered his hands, instantly shutting out the biting cold and wind of the harsh winter.

*Of course I like you the most.*

Outside of the times they were intimate, Gu Yin’s heart was now beating faster than it ever had before.

"Sniffle... Master, you’re such a player. A second ago, you said you liked that little doggy the most."

’That’s called tact,’ An Jin sighed internally. ’You wouldn’t understand the trouble of having multiple husbands. There’s no other way; I have to soothe them one by one. And for the record, Ling Hong is a handsome Silver Wolf.’

Gu Yin pulled her in by the waist and crushed his lips to hers. The kiss was aggressive, filled with sucking and biting—partly to vent his anger, and partly out of a sense of competition.

By the time he was through, An Jin felt her lips had been kissed numb, and a light mist clouded her eyes.

Ling Hong, who had just arrived, stared silently at the scene before him. The fingers of the hand hanging at his side curled into a fist.

"I found those tubers. There are a lot more over there. I just dug up a few to see if they’re edible." He walked over, acting as if he hadn’t seen a thing, and interrupted their kiss.

Gu Yin shot him a lazy glance, released the female in his arms, and looked nonchalantly at the bundle in Ling Hong’s hands. "What is that?"

"It’s taro!" An Jin hurriedly jumped in, wriggling free from his embrace.

’Taro is great stuff! It’s rich in starch and nutrients. Not only can you use it to make all sorts of delicious food, but it also contains galactan, giving it a soft, smooth texture that’s easy to digest. It’s perfect for the young cubs and the Old Beastmen.’

’Most important of all, taro can be stored as emergency rations. That’s exactly the kind of thing they’re lacking in the Beast World’s harsh winters. The more, the better!’

Her delighted cry broke the tense atmosphere between the two males. They both turned to her in unison. "Taro?"

"Yes! It’s a food similar to sweet potatoes, and it can be stored for a long time through the winter!" She looked at the two of them, her voice filled with excitement. "Let’s go dig up the rest of the taro. We’ll plant some in the tilled fields and put the rest in the warehouse."

Since she had given the order, Gu Yin and Ling Hong had no choice but to set aside their differences and call a temporary truce to help her dig for taro.

Watching the two of them walk away side-by-side in apparent harmony, An Jin breathed a sigh of relief. ’That was so stressful it almost made me shut down completely.’
