Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 254 - 177: His Father and the Frenzied Female
"Chi?" Gu Yin repeated, his face expressionless as he chewed on the name. A barely perceptible anger and hatred seeped into his voice before he crushed the word and swallowed it.
Being mistaken for that dead man made Gu Yin furious, but he didn’t rush to expose the misunderstanding.
’Did I just hear these Wandering Beasts say that the leader of Absurd City has the Beast God Fruit?’
Whether it was true or not, he had to go take a look. He couldn’t pass up any chance to heal Jin’er.
Gu Yin had originally planned to kill a few of the Wandering Beasts and coerce them into leading him into the city. This new development saved him a lot of trouble.
"Lord Chi, you... you’ve already ascended to a King Beast? We haven’t seen you for such a short time. I never thought your progress would be so miraculous!" Chi and the other Wandering Beasts were shocked when they saw the blood-red marking between his eyebrows. They all glanced down at his arm and saw that, sure enough, the Snake Beast no longer had the mark of an ordinary beastman.
Gu Yin grunted faintly in acknowledgment but said nothing more. He squinted at the blindingly white snowscape in the distance. "Take me into the city."
Although they knew Snake Beasts were naturally cold and taciturn, Chi’s attitude today seemed especially dismissive and indifferent. A collective shiver ran through the Wandering Beasts. Even though they saw the unfamiliar Wolf Beast at his side, none of them dared to say anything more.
The Wandering Beasts led the two of them to Absurd City.
When the Beastman guards at the city gate saw Gu Yin, their expressions immediately became a mixture of respect and fear. They were about to open the gate to let him pass when they noticed the unfamiliar Wolf Beast at his side.
—And one with a mate mark, at that.
Absurd City was a gathering place for Wandering Beasts, rootless beasts, and even a few Demon Beastmen concealing their identities, but it never accepted "normal beastmen" like Ling Hong.
The Beastman guards hesitated. "Lord Chi, this Wolf Beast..."
Gu Yin’s gaze followed theirs, and he instantly understood the problem.
Gu Yin was sensitive to the cold, so he had put on a garment that covered his chest. Ling Hong, on the other hand, had a naturally thick coat of fur and gave off immense body heat. He could walk naked through the ice and snow without fear, so he only wore a pair of pants for modesty’s sake.
Gu Yin frowned, utterly annoyed by the tedious act of having to "explain." Without a second thought, he blurted out,
"Found him on the way back. His mate abandoned him, and now he wants to join the city."
Ling Hong—the one who had supposedly been abandoned by his mate—shot a cold glare at the expressionless Gu Yin. He gritted his teeth but could only lower his head and walk silently at his side. "...Yes."
The guards then let them into the city.
Their attitude toward Ling Hong immediately did a 180. They laughed and tried to comfort him, saying that females were all selfish, egotistical creatures. Being abandoned was no big deal, they said—good riddance.
If the circumstances weren’t so critical, Ling Hong would have fiercely refuted their claims. ’My mate is nothing like that!’
’She’s gentle, hardworking, and kind, with more virtues than I can count. Every single one of them is captivating.’
But the moment he thought of her injuries, his expression darkened. ’I have to find the Beast God Fruit as soon as possible.’
The layout of Absurd City was much like any other, only far larger. The beastmen coming and going were all Wandering Beasts and other outcasts disliked by females. The buildings were predominantly black and gray, creating a monotonous and bleak atmosphere. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
The entire city exuded a dark, chilly aura of exile.
"I wonder who rules this city," Ling Hong muttered.
"...My father, Dannas." Gu Yin’s reply came after a long silence, his cold, handsome face betraying no joy or sorrow.
Ever since he had successfully devoured Chi, the vast gaps in his memory had been filled. He had learned many secrets about his race.
As well as—
the identity of the father who had so casually abandoned him.
Surprise flickered across Ling Hong’s face, but he didn’t press the matter.
After the Wandering Beasts escorted them to the City Lord’s Stone Castle at the city’s heart, Gu Yin frowned. The fresh scent of blood hung in the air.
Staring straight ahead, he said to Ling Hong, "Find a place to wait. I’m going in to take a look. I’ll call you if anything happens."
"Okay."
Ling Hong nodded and quickly disappeared.
He climbed into a hidden thicket of trees near the Stone Castle, positioning himself to watch for any trouble.
Gu Yin reached out and pushed open the ancient, imposing stone door. Light flooded the dark, deathly still interior of the castle, and its inhabitant seemed to stir from their silence.
"You’re back."
A deep, chillingly magnetic voice spoke as the door opened, laced with a hint of unfathomable amusement.
