Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 243 - 173: Rage + Beast God Fruit
He could see that at the last moment, she had consciously used her spiritual power to resist the Snake Beast’s attack.
But the Eighth Rank Snake Beast’s attack was horrifically powerful. A single bite had destroyed more than half of her waist, abdomen, and internal organs.
Tears of anger streamed down the Beastmen’s faces. When they finally arrived, they were met with this tragic scene.
An injury this severe would be fatal even for a robust male Beastman, let alone a female.
Gu Yin took An Jin’s nearly ice-cold body and gently cradled her in his arms. He leaned down, nuzzling his cheek against hers.
’So cold... Not warm and soft like I remember. Is this the coldness of a corpse?’
He held his blood-soaked mate, tears streaming from his eyes, so choked with sobs that he couldn’t utter a single word.
This was the first time in his life he had ever cried, and the only time he had ever felt such heart-wrenching pain.
His scalding tears splashed uncontrollably onto her face, and An Jin’s hazy consciousness cleared for a moment. She managed to half-open her eyes, her voice a mere whisper. "Gu Yin..."
’The man in my vision has black hair and red eyes. He’s impossibly beautiful. Even more handsome after shedding his skin, and now there’s a bewitching, blood-red mark between his brows.’
She gave a pale smile and reached out, wanting desperately to touch him, to kiss him, to wipe the tears from his face.
But before Gu Yin could press his cheek to her hand, she collapsed in his arms once more.
An unbearable pain tore through him, as if his heart were being sliced by a thousand knives.
Gu Yin felt a sharp pain with every breath, and his eyes turned a terrifying shade of red.
"She’s still bleeding."
Chi Li shook his head, forcing down the panic in his heart and struggling to enunciate each word clearly. "I managed to stanch some of the bleeding with the herbs I had on me, but her injuries are too severe. This isn’t nearly enough. She’ll bleed to death."
He took An Jin back from Gu Yin’s arms, then raised his eyes to Song Yi. His voice held a sharp urgency he had never shown before. "It will take the main group at least two days to rush back to the tribe. You’re the fastest. If you fly the two of us back, it will only take half a day. I can only give her further treatment once we get there!"
"Alright."
Song Yi instantly shifted into his beast form, took the two of them onto his back, and with a great flap of his wings, vanished from sight.
Gu Yin stood rooted to the spot, utterly bereft, as if he had suffered a devastating blow. He was as still as a statue, blood dripping from his tightly clenched fists.
Ling Hong was in no better state. His body was covered in deep gashes, but in his shock, he felt no pain.
He clenched his fists and finally issued a hoarse command to the bewildered Beastmen behind him. "Secure the goods. We’re returning to the tribe."
「Two days and one night later」
After crossing numerous mountains and plains, Gu Yin and Ling Hong finally returned with the several hundred Beastmen.
This time, the tribe did not hold a grand bonfire banquet as they usually did.
A pall of gloom hung over the entire tribe. Every face was etched with sorrow, and from time to time, Beastmen would press against windows, trying to peer into the wooden house.
Since outsiders were forbidden from the treatment room, Xi could only swim anxiously back and forth in the nearby river, his face etched with grief. His azure ear-fins drooped limply.
"Ah Jin..."
’What on earth happened? I just got back from hunting when I smelled the thick scent of blood in the air, and then I saw them carrying her back, covered in it.’
’I’m so worried about her.’
In the treatment room, more than half of An Jin’s body was wrapped in gauze as she lay on the wooden bed. Gu Yin strode over and gently took her bandaged hand in his.
Yellowed beast-skin scrolls covered in simple symbols and characters were scattered across the floor of the wooden house. Chi Li rested his clenched fists on the table, muttering as if possessed, "It’s no use, completely useless. Her injuries are too severe. I can’t find an effective treatment..."
"All I can do is stanch the bleeding, bandage her wounds, and give her medicine to prolong her life, but..."
But that alone would never be enough to heal her.
"Is there no way at all?" Gu Yin asked softly without looking up, gently caressing her cold cheek.
’If she dies, I don’t want to go on living.’
"Unless we can find a Beast God Fruit."
A single, faint hope flickered through Chi Li’s mind. He paused, then continued, "The legendary Beast God Fruit. It can purify one’s bloodline and reconstruct the body. Otherwise, even if she is lucky enough to survive, she’ll be essentially crippled for decades to come."
But there are no clear records of the Beast God Fruit’s whereabouts. It’s so rare as to be nearly extinct. Not even Ze Sheng has one.
Ling Hong, who had been silent all this time, suddenly spoke up. "Back when I used to hunt, I dealt with Beastmen from many other tribes and heard plenty of rumors."
Both men looked up at him. Ling Hong’s gaze fell upon An Jin, and he forced down his grief, his voice low. "In recent years, the only time I’ve heard of a Beast God Fruit appearing was in the river valley region to the west."
"But that region is ruled by the Absurd City. That strange city is a gathering place for the most brutal and callous Wandering Beasts on the continent. Legend says no Beastman who enters it ever comes out alive."
