Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 199 - 133: A Past Story from Mi Yin and Ling Hong’s Childhood
Gu Yin followed An Jin’s gaze toward the nearby woods.
Holding her securely with one arm, he walked over to a lush tree laden with fruit. "You want to eat these?"
"Yes, yes!"
An Jin nodded emphatically and rubbed her cheek against his, unable to contain her excitement as she pointed at the tree. "Where I’m from, these are called bananas. They’re a delicious type of fruit."
She stretched out her arm, but couldn’t reach. With a sigh, she turned to the tall, imposing man beside her for help. "Gu Yin, can you pick them for me? I want to see if they taste the same as the ones I used to eat."
’Those bunches of hanging, green, crescent-shaped fruit—weren’t they bananas?’
They were just much smaller than the ones she used to eat.
No wonder the Long-armed Ape Tribe often foraged here. It turned out there were bananas, which explained why the apes liked this area so much.
The lush banana tree stood five or six meters tall, with huge leaves longer than a person. A breeze whispered past, making them rustle melodiously.
"Wait here. I’ll be right back."
Gu Yin was greatly pleased by her request and reliance on him. He set her down, then swiftly transformed into his snake form. Coiling around the trunk, he shot up to the top of the tree in the blink of an eye.
A few dark, black-and-red patterns were faintly visible beneath the large green leaves.
Gu Yin curled his tail around a bunch of bananas and descended the tree with deft agility.
"I’ll try it first. It might be poisonous." Instead of giving the bananas to her, Gu Yin broke one off, and without even peeling it, took a bite.
"!!?"
An Jin was dumbfounded. She reached out to stop him, but it was too late. A moment later, she doubled over laughing. "Haha! You’re supposed to peel it! You actually ate the skin. Doesn’t your mouth feel all astringent and numb?"
"HISS~"
Gu Yin flicked his forked tongue, then swallowed the banana, peel and all, in one gulp. Feeling the strange numbness in his mouth, he furrowed his handsome, long brows. "...It’s not poisonous, but it tastes terrible."
"How could that be?"
Unconcerned, An Jin took the banana he had bitten into, peeled back the skin, and popped the snow-white fruit into her mouth. A second later, her expression changed, too.
"BLECH! PTUI! PTUI!"
She spat everything out, her face a mask of disgust.
’Why is this banana so bitter and astringent?’ 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
’It feels like there are seeds inside, too. Is it just unripe? Or is it because the bananas in the Beast World haven’t been selectively bred and aren’t meant for consumption?’
There were already plenty of overripe, rotten bananas on the ground.
’It’s probably the second reason.’
"I told you it tasted terrible." Gu Yin’s gaze fell on the banana in An Jin’s hand—the one they had both taken a bite from—and a rare smile touched his usually cold, indifferent face.
He gently patted her back, then carried her to the riverbank to rinse her mouth, finally washing away the bitter, astringent taste.
"What a shame." An Jin wiped her mouth and gazed longingly at the grove of banana trees.
’Bananas are such a great food. They’re rich in vitamins and minerals, they can help your muscles relax, boost your mood, and even help with weight loss.’
’They’re also good for preventing high blood pressure, relieving fatigue, soothing coughs, and preventing constipation.’
An Jin took a deep breath, then squatted down and started digging. She turned to the man beside her. "Come on, help me dig up the rhizomes of a few of these trees. We’ll take them back to the tribe to plant!"
Gu Yin looked at her in surprise. Though he didn’t understand her reasoning, he wordlessly helped her dig up several rhizomes, then got her back to the tribe before nightfall.
By the time they returned to the tribe that evening, the Hunting Teams were already back. The streets were deserted; exhausted from the long day, everyone had likely gone to bed.
Ling Hong had dinner ready long ago. After standing at the door and waiting anxiously for what felt like an eternity, he was just about to go look for An Jin.
When he spotted her figure in the distance, Ling Hong’s usually cool, handsome face lit up with joy. He rushed over and pulled her into his arms, greedily inhaling her scent with a sense of longing. "Where did you go? Why are you back so late? The food’s gotten cold."
He sounded utterly wronged. He reached out to wipe a smudge of dirt from An Jin’s face, then shot Gu Yin a cold, resentful glare. "Don’t take her out so late next time. What if you’d run into a wild beast?"
"Of course I’d protect Jin’er. I don’t need you to worry about it."
Gu Yin returned Ling Hong’s cold stare, his blood-red snake eyes flashing with provocation and scorn. His long tail scraped against the ground. "Unlike certain useless males, I would never put her in danger."
