Chapter 200: Chapter 133: The Past of Mi Yin and Ling Hong’s Childhood (Part 2)

He then lowered his head and stole a kiss from her soft lips. "Jin’er, am I right? Did you have fun going out with me?"

"Hmph!" Ling Hong clenched his fists and took several deep breaths, instantly bristling with anger.

"Alright, alright, let’s hurry up and eat. Didn’t you say the food was getting cold? I’m so hungry right now!"

’Having multiple partners sure leads to a lot of fights.’ An Jin’s head throbbed. She pushed Gu Yin away slightly and quickly grabbed Ling Hong’s arm, shaking it coquettishly. "Let’s hurry up and eat!"

Only then did Ling Hong’s anger subside. He went to the kitchen to restart the fire, reheated the cold dishes, and brought them back to the wooden table.

The hunting party had been very lucky today. Ling Hong had led the hunt and taken down several large, fat wild boars. He’d dragged one home, which was more than enough to feed their family of three.

He used the most tender cut of pork and some greens from the garden to make a few fragrant meat dishes for An Jin.

As for the rest of the boar, they just casually roasted it over the fire.

The two males ate more crudely. They took the half-raw roasted boar meat right outside the door and devoured it in a few bites, quickly cleaning up any trace before An Jin came out after her meal.

After dinner, An Jin took advantage of the last rays of twilight to direct Gu Yin and Ling Hong. Together, they cut the banana tree rhizomes she had brought back into dozens of small sections.

They then dug numerous pits in a nearby clearing, planted the rhizomes, and watered them.

An Jin didn’t care whether they would grow or not—that was up to fate. Besides, it wasn’t like she could eat them even if they did. It was all purely for show.

The real reason was that when the two of them weren’t looking, she had snuck five or six of the small rhizomes into her dimensional space, planning to cultivate a new, sweeter variety of banana on her own.

...

Although An Jin had successfully begun to cultivate her spiritual power, she had started too late, so the power within her body was still unstable.

She had to visit Chi Li every few days to get a strange concoction that helped stabilize her spiritual power. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"The moons have been so round these past few days."

As she was nearing home that night after leaving Chi Li’s wooden cabin, An Jin looked up and saw two large, round moons—one red, one blue—hanging high overhead. She couldn’t help but sigh in admiration.

Tonight, the moons were exceptionally round, exceptionally bright, and exceptionally large.

She squinted, raising a hand to her brow. Her slender fingers shielded her eyes from some of the overwhelming moonlight.

This was the first time since she’d arrived in the Beast World that she had seen both moons perfectly full at the same time. She stared for a long, long time, her breathing growing shallow. Unconsciously, the scene before her began to blur.

’In her original world, there was a holiday for this.’

’Its meaning was... reunion, wasn’t it?’

But An Jin had never met her parents. She grew up in an orphanage. Later, she was taken in by a kind old man, a highly respected scholar who had become passionate about researching ancient cultures after his retirement.

Later, the old man passed away from natural causes. By then she was grown, and she inherited his mantle...

After that, the holiday had nothing to do with her anymore. She wiped a tear from her eye. ’Why am I being so melodramatic today?’

After returning home, An Jin set about drying the wild fruits and mushrooms she had picked that morning, laying them out on the windowsill. Once again, she found herself unexpectedly captivated by the sight of the moons.

She ended up just leaning against the window, staring intently at the moons for what felt like an eternity as the cold night wind whipped her hair across her face.

"...Jin’er?"

Gu Yin hugged her from behind, his body draping over hers as if he were boneless. He affectionately nuzzled his face against hers.

Gu Yin followed her gaze. A perfectly ordinary full moon met his eyes, and a look of surprise crossed his face. "What’s so interesting about this? It’s windy outside. Let’s go back in and sleep."

"Look, the moons are so round. Don’t they look like two eyes?"

An Jin propped her arms on the windowsill and cupped her chin in her hands, lost in her own world as she muttered to herself, oblivious to him.

"Do you think our family members who have passed away... are they looking at us through the moons, just like we’re looking at them?" Honestly, moons this large would look somewhat terrifying and strange to a normal person from Earth, but her face held only nostalgia.

Gu Yin stared at her, stunned. Seeing the sorrow in her eyes, his heart clenched painfully, and he suddenly found it hard to breathe.

He shook his head and gently pulled her into his arms. He nuzzled his handsome face against the top of her head and said honestly, "...I don’t know."

Blood ties in the Snake Clan were weak, and he had never even met his parents. Because of this, Gu Yin couldn’t understand the sorrow for departed family that he saw in An Jin’s eyes.
