Chapter 198: Chapter 132: Taking Her on an Outing

An Jin cruelly separated two insects in the middle of fervent copulation. Taking them in hand, she observed the sexual characteristics of each.

After identifying their features, she caught several female insects and squeezed out a few drops of the liquid secreted from their tails. This liquid was rich in sex pheromones that attracted males to mate.

She then loaded it into a palm-sized Odor Simulator and set the concentration to ten times the normal level.

Then, she tossed the Odor Simulator somewhere random.

She bought some flypaper from her space and placed it around the area. When An Jin came to check a few days later, she found the sticky boards were covered with a dense layer of insects.

Only female insects remained in the fields.

With no males to mate with, these females couldn’t reproduce. They would die soon after their mating season ended.

This not only solved this year’s pest problem but also prevented infestations for the next few years.

’Biological pest control is truly the best.’

CHIRP CHIRP~

A sparrow circling overhead dropped a load of poop, which nearly landed on An Jin.

An Jin was speechless.

’Is it my imagination? Why are there suddenly so many birds over the fields lately? They’re eyeing the nearly-ripe wheat and corn, and no matter what we do, we can’t seem to drive them away.’

This didn’t happen in the past two years. This year, it was one thing after another—first pests, now birds.

Perhaps because no Beastmen had ever grown wheat and corn before, these little animals hadn’t discovered such good food. After getting an accidental taste, they started flocking to the fields.

Though the little sparrows were cute, the Beastmen didn’t think so. They utterly despised the wretched birds for stealing their food.

"AWOO~" Some incredibly agile leopard beastmen leaped into the air, swiftly swallowing several birds.

’Hmph! You eat my food, so I’ll eat you.’

The Beastmen transformed into their agile beast forms, leaping about in the fields. The scene was both absurd and amusing.

The terrified little sparrows flapped their wings frantically, shedding clouds of feathers and letting out high-pitched chirps.

But there were still some bold stragglers. Taking advantage of their sheer numbers, they would dive into the fields for a few pecks of wheat the moment the Beastmen looked away.

’This can’t go on.’

"Stop trying to catch them! We can weave some nets to block the birds!"

An Jin gathered some of the more dexterous Beastmen and had them find some thin, tough wooden vines and a few tall logs.

A dozen or so burly, rough-looking Beastmen squatted in a circle, staring eagerly at the small female in the center like attentive students.

"First like this, then like this... Remember to crisscross them, make the mesh small, and trim the excess vines..."

An Jin taught them step-by-step how to weave several large vine nets, which they then tied to tall logs and staked into the fields.

An Jin strictly controlled the width of the mesh to about three centimeters. The sparrows were too big to fly through.

"CHIRP CHIRP~" The sparrows stared at the unreachable feast, trying again and again in frustration. A few of them even got stuck in the mesh, unable to move forward or back, and chirped shrilly.

"AWOO~"

The sparrow’s chirps came to an abrupt end.

A few young cubs let out satisfied burps, rubbing their round bellies with their paws before flopping contentedly on the ground, limbs spread wide.

The commotion in the fields attracted many playful cubs. Little tigers, leopards, wolves, lions... they all came running.

They discovered lots of tasty birds here. Licking their lips with their little pink tongues, they began happily pouncing around the fields, catching and eating them.

A few little eaglets, who seemed to have just learned to fly, were practicing their clumsy aerial hunting.

"CHIRP CHIRP~" The little sparrows sensed the danger from their natural predators and immediately forgot about the food, flying away in a terrified, chaotic flutter.

After finishing the farm work, An Jin crouched by the river to wash her hands. Gazing down at the clear water, she saw a long, slender, black-and-red serpentine shadow swimming swiftly toward her.

The sound of splashing water reached her ears, and a moment later, a soaked head emerged. Gu Yin’s long black hair was splayed across his pale, firm shoulders and back. A pair of magnificent, richly-colored, gem-like vertical pupils looked at the female before him, full of amusement.

"Jin’er~"

Gu Yin swam over to An Jin. Tilting his head slightly, he obediently nuzzled his face into her water-beaded palm, his narrow pupils narrowing with cat-like pleasure.

Before An Jin could react, a huge wave was suddenly slapped up from the water’s surface, drenching her.

With lightning speed, a slender snake tail coiled around An Jin and yanked her into the cool river water.

"Ptooey! Ptooey!"

Caught off guard, An Jin swallowed several mouthfuls of river water. She held onto Gu Yin’s tail and glared at the smiling man before her, even as her body drifted closer to him. "What are you doing? You didn’t even give me a warning! The water is so cold..."

"It’s hot today. I wanted to take you for a swim."

Gu Yin looked up at the scorching sun. The glaring light forced his pupils to contract until his irises were barely visible.

As a Snake Beast, Gu Yin loved playing in the water. It could soothe his dry skin and wash the dust and grit from between his scales.

Especially in this hot, dry weather, he loved sleeping in damp, dark caves and frolicking intimately with his beloved partner in the cool river.

Gu Yin lowered his head and kissed An Jin’s lips before pulling her into his arms. Together, they sank into the cool river water.

His snake tail began to sway faster with visible excitement, propelling them forward. They cut two white, churning wakes through the clear river.

The sun was bright and the air was fresh. It was indeed a perfect day for an outing.

Gu Yin carried An Jin down the Great Soup River, traveling to a lush, dense part of the Worri Forest.

Towering ancient trees, rising and falling in endless succession, crowded into An Jin’s view.

The crisscrossing branches and leaves blocked most of the sunlight, allowing only a few mottled specks of light to fall onto the dark earth below.

An Jin usually stayed in the tribe, only occasionally going out to gather mushrooms, wild vegetables, and herbs. Her activities were always confined to the small woods near the tribe.

This was her first time in a remote, unfamiliar jungle. She looked around in every direction, a look of genuine wonder spreading across her face.

"There are so many fruits!"

’I really regret not bringing a basket,’ An Jin sighed with some disappointment.

Gu Yin smiled and nodded. He swam slowly to the shore while holding her, leaving a long, winding trail of water on the dark soil.

He knew she had always loved fruit, which was why he had specifically brought her here to play.

"I’ll carry you. There are quite a few wild beasts around, so don’t stray too far from me."

"Okay."

An Jin nodded.

’A lush, tropical Primitive Jungle like this is probably hiding countless venomous snakes and fierce beasts. Only a fool would run around aimlessly.’

She sat quietly on Gu Yin’s arm, her hands naturally wrapping around his long neck as she leaned her head lazily against the man’s solid chest.

’It’s as comfortable as a firm pillow. It’s so nice it’s making me sleepy.’

"Yaaawn~" An Jin covered her mouth and let out a lazy yawn, her dark, lustrous eyes welling up with tears.

Suddenly, a familiar greenish-yellow object came into view.

Her spirits lifted, and all her sleepiness vanished.

"Hey, let’s go over there!" she said in pleasant surprise, tugging on Gu Yin’s arm.
