Chapter 109

~Jade’s POV~

I stared at my phone screen longer than necessary, my lips curving slightly as I reread Xavier’s message for what had to be the fifth time.

Hope you love them. Looking forward to seeing you in them.

A soft breath left me as my fingers hovered over the image I had sent him earlier—me, standing in front of my mirror, wearing the outfit he had picked out. I had kept my message simple, just a quiet thank you, but his reply had lingered in my mind ever since.

There was something about the way he said things calmly and effortlessly, yet it always settled somewhere deep in my chest.

"Jade."

Silver’s voice broke through my thoughts.

I blinked and looked up, locking my phone as I turned toward him. He stood by the car, one hand resting casually against the door, his silver hair catching the soft glow of the porch light.

"We’re here." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

I nodded, slipping my phone into my clutch before stepping out.

The night air brushed against my skin as I stepped out, cool enough to make me aware of the dress hugging my body.

Xavier didn’t just pick something pretty. He chose something that fit.

The bodice was black and fitted, the halter neckline framing my shoulders while the cold-shoulder cutouts revealed just enough skin to draw attention.

It dipped into a sharp V at my waist, accentuating my shape before flowing into a soft white skirt.

The contrast was striking.

The skirt was ruched down the front, the fabric shifting with every step, and the slit ran just high enough to show a glimpse of my leg as I moved. It flowed effortlessly to the floor, elegant without trying too hard.

My fingers brushed the pearls at my neck.

The choker sat snug against my skin, layered strands leading to a single red heart-shaped gemstone at the center. It caught the light subtly, matching the delicate bracelet on my wrist and the earrings swaying faintly with each step.

Everything about it felt intentional, different.

I felt different.

Silver’s gaze lingered on me for a moment longer than usual, something he’d been doing since he came to pick me from the house, his eyes flickering before he offered his arm.

"You clean up well," he complimented.

I smirked slightly as I slipped my hand through his arm. "I always do."

He chuckled under his breath, and together, we walked toward the venue.

The hall was already alive when we arrived, music pulsing softly through the air, laughter and chatter blending into a steady hum. At the entrance stood two familiar faces—Kai and Ivy.

"About time," Ivy said, her sharp eyes immediately landing on me. Then they widened. "Oh, I knew it," she added quickly, nudging Kai with her elbow. "Didn’t I say she was going to look stunning?"

Kai glanced at me, then at Silver, before giving a small nod. He cleared his throat. "You... look beautiful, Jade."

I tilted my head, a teasing smile forming. "So I was ugly before?"

His eyes widened instantly. "No—that’s not what I meant. I just—"

I laughed, the sound light and genuine as I waved him off. "Relax, Kai. I’m messing with you."

Ivy snorted, clearly enjoying his discomfort. "Honestly, I was waiting for the chaos the mate of the triplet Alphas was gonna bring."

Silver cleared his throat and tightened his hold on my waist a little, but that did not stop Ivy from leaning forward and whispering, "I am still surprised those possessive, handsome mates of yours let you come at all, let alone with somebody."

"Ivy," Kai called her attention in a warning tone.

She beamed like she did nothing at all and waved it off, and after a few more seconds of banter, Silver and I moved past them and into the hall following the call of our names.

The moment I stepped in fully, I felt the shift. Eyes turned, and whispers followed.

It wasn’t subtle this time. It wasn’t the passing glances or curiosity I had grown used to. No... this was different. I lifted my chin slightly, ignoring their gazes as I walked beside Silver.

"Jade!"

Ziva’s voice cut through the noise, and I turned to see her waving at me, Adrian standing beside her with a drink in hand.

We made our way over, exchanging quick greetings. "You look insane," Ziva greeted, eyeing me from head to toe. I understood her shock considering it wasn’t the outfit we bought at the store yesterday.

"In a good way," Adrian added with a grin.

"Obviously," I replied, rolling my eyes lightly, taking in the scene. Then I glanced around. "Where’s Isadora?"

Ziva’s expression shifted slightly. "She should be here by now. She’s been talking about tonight for days. Especially coming with Pen. I bet she has a huge crush on him."

A small frown formed on my face. I pulled out my phone and dialled her number, pressing it to my ear.

It rang, and rang, but there was no answer.

A flicker of unease settled in my chest just as the doors opened again. I turned instinctively the second Javelin registered her presence, and there she was.

Isadora walked in, her steps slower than usual, her expression already strained. She looked like she was about to cry, but was managing to hold it all together. Though I doubted that would have lasted for anything.

"Hey, girl," I tried to sound cheerful as I waved her over, but the moment she reached us, everything spilt out.

"He’s not coming, Jade. He... He stood me up. Pen’s not coming," she lamented, and covered her face with her palm.

I glanced at Silver, Ziva and Adrian, each of us having the same shocked expression on our faces.

Pen hadn’t shown up or called, which led to her being late.

Ziva immediately jumped in, trying to soften it. "Maybe something happened. Traffic, car trouble—"

Her words were cut off by the sound of the announcer’s voice echoing through the hall. "Pen Alistair and Nyx Nevada."
