Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna-Chapter 119: Don’t go away...
Sebastian, who had been silently listening, blinked. It was an understatement to say he wasn’t surprised. He had known there was more to Viola Linden than what he had managed to dig up about her, but he hadn’t been able to figure out exactly what that was until now.
No wonder her pain ran so deeply. No wonder there was something in those clear blue eyes that always looked as though they were haunted. No wonder she tortured herself repeatedly during those days she trained, pushing her body beyond its limits as if she deserved the punishment. It was because she had betrayed her twin.
She had been adopted by the Lindens, now that made sense, and it also explained why they had so easily discarded her after she turned out to be wolfless on the day of her Awakening.
Had Sebastian been a normal, morally upright man, he would have been disgusted by her past action. But that would have been the height of hypocrisy when he himself was far darker and had done worse than what she had just confessed to doing in the past. And worst of all, he was still doing it, because that was the fate he had chosen, or perhaps the fate that had chosen him.
The irony that they both had twins, and that in both cases they were the more twisted ones, made him smile bitterly. The only difference was that while she carried her pain and regret like a chain around her neck, he had long since stopped holding on to his, because it would have destroyed him if he had. If she expected him to agree with her that she was evil, then she had chosen the wrong man to confess to.
He rubbed her back slowly, thoughtfully, as he parted his lips to finally speak, after everything she had said had settled heavily inside him.
"You deserve happiness as much as every other person out there, love," Sebastian whispered softly into her ear, wanting the words to settle inside her and make her drop the negativity she clung to. He wasn’t the right person to console someone in this department, because he had done worse, however, he didn’t like that she carried this weight so deeply in her heart.
"I cannot justify what you did as good, but you were nothing more than a little girl. Don’t beat yourself up over something your seven-year-old self did. I have done worse, but I still learned to live with it. Do you know where this orphanage is? We can go there and find your twin if you want," he told her, knowing that whatever answers she needed might be found there, and perhaps even the path to her healing might begin in that very place. However, he was met with silence.
Sebastian looked down and saw that her eyes had closed, her dark curly lashes casting faint shadows on her cheeks, with her glasses sitting crookedly on the bridge of her nose, slightly skewed to one side as if even they had grown tired along with her.
She had fallen asleep, he realized belatedly. She had poured out her heart to him and told him a truth he knew she would never have revealed while sober, but that truth had only shed light on some of the missing pieces about her that he had been wondering about.
He raised his hand and touched her cheek, caressing it gently as he muttered, "You have finally escaped eating dinner again." Waking her was no longer an option, for she needed the sleep to cool her mind. And though he didn’t think she should always sleep without eating, Sebastian had no choice but to allow her to rest. Perhaps tomorrow, he might cook something fresh for her again for breakfast and get to talk to her more about the orphanage, the one where she had said they were killing children.
Sebastian was aware of many orphanages as the Supreme Alpha, but he hadn’t heard of any that killed their children. In fact, he was responsible for giving donations to many orphanages in the werewolf world, because it was something his mother had done faithfully when she was alive.
So where was this orphanage? he thought, and he decided that perhaps he could find out more from her when he was able to get her to talk to him normally, without the influence of alcohol clouding her memories.
With that thought in mind, he decided to carry her to the bedroom. However, since she was basically sleeping while standing and leaning against his chest, there was no way he could bend and carry her bridal style without disturbing her sleep. Hence, he gathered her into his arms like a baby, one hand under her bottom with her legs resting on both sides of his waist, and her head tucked against his shoulder, her breath fanning softly against his neck.
He used his other hand to support her back, pressing her securely to his chest, and he heard her let out a deep sigh of comfort as she brought her arms up to wrap around his neck.
"You smell nice..." she murmured in her sleep, and Sebastian smiled.
"Hmm, I am glad you like how I smell," he told her, carrying her toward the bedroom and unable to help but think that he was spoiling her, considering he couldn’t even wake her to walk to the bed herself.
"You are the first woman I don’t mind spoiling, mi amor, and strangely, I want to spoil you even more until you are rotten and so clingy like every other woman," he whispered into her ear. Despite the fact that she was sleeping, she still grumbled words of argument at him, which he didn’t catch fully, except for one word—
"Liar..."
He smiled faintly, gently swatting her bottom and causing her to lightly hit the back of his neck in protest. "I can’t believe you are still like this even while sleeping," he said, but this time she didn’t reply.
When he entered her room, he was assaulted by her daisy scent, which made him take a deep inhale. He walked to the bed and gently laid her down like a man setting down his most prized treasure, as she was slowly becoming that without him even being aware of it. He had put her to bed like this last night, and he couldn’t help but wonder if this would become a daily routine after their marriage. He turned almost giddy with pleasure at those thoughts.
The moment he put her down on the bed, her brows pulled together and she curled up to one side, muttering, "It’s so cold..."
Sebastian pulled the blanket over her, adjusting it carefully around her and tucking her in properly, yet he was still surprised when she shivered under the blanket, causing him to frown. "It’s not cold in here. It’s freaking hot," he told her, looking around and noticing that the air conditioner of the entire house was turned off, and he himself had been burning with heat from within since the moment he had walked in.
He couldn’t believe how opposite they were. While he liked the cold and despised heat and anything warm, she craved warmth. He took another blanket from her closet and placed it over her, but she frowned and pulled her hand out to grab his sleeve.
"Don’t go away. Stay with me..." she breathed, her eyes faintly opening as she looked at him. Sebastian became reluctant, not because he didn’t want to stay, but because he wouldn’t like her waking up tomorrow and claiming he had taken advantage of her vulnerable state.
"Please..." she added, and every trace of reluctance flew out the window. He reached up and loosened his tie, taking off his coat and letting it fall to the floor. He took off his shirt as well and removed his shoes, leaving only his trousers on before he got onto the soft bed with her and slipped under the double blankets that immediately consumed him with heat like a blazing summer afternoon.
However, the little rabbit turned and moved into his embrace, using his arm as a pillow and fitting her own arm comfortably around his waist. "You are so warm..." she sighed, bringing her face to bury it against his chest, her lips brushing dangerously close to his nipple, which caused him to tense slightly.
"I feel like I am being roasted alive. How can you not feel the heat?" he grumbled. But despite his complaints and discomfort, Sebastian sank deeper into the blankets so he could hold her and keep her warm the way she liked it. He put his leg over hers, fully aware that he was willingly tormenting himself by having her this close, unable to give in to the tension inside him as he would have with every other mate that had come his way.
Before Sebastian fell asleep, he reached out to Matt through their link and told him, ’Send our wedding invitations to Moonwillow and the North Pack. Give them the special invitations and send both my jets to pick them up separately.’
Matt, who was still at the office and trying to get Laila off his back as she had been disturbing him with constant calls and asking when Sebastian would return to his place, was surprised by the order. ’Are you sure you want them both at the ceremony?’
’Hmm, my wife wants them invited, so why not?’ he said shamelessly, fitting his chin against her head and closing his eyes as sleep began to pull him under.
Matt heard the way his friend addressed Viola and didn’t say anything but arced a brow in surprise. Wife? Since when did his friend become this shameless over a mate?
’I hope you know what you are doing, man.’
’Hmm...’ was Sebastian’s only answer as he was slowly being drawn into sleep, a place he hadn’t truly gone to peacefully in years. He couldn’t remember the last time he had felt this sleepy, and rather than fight it, he allowed himself to fall into it, his arm wrapped around her both protectively and possessively.
"Good night, amor," he muttered before beginning to snore lightly, and the house’s automatic system dimmed the lights and drew the curtains over the glass walls while the couple slept undisturbed on the bed.
