Chapter 118: Past Confession to him_Part 5

Sebastian had been in a foul mood after leaving Viola in the elevator and receiving Laila’s text that she would come over to spend the night with him. In the past, he would have been happy that he could release some steam with Laila, as she was everything crazy in bed, and he liked and enjoyed every session with her when they were having sex, where they tried all sorts of fun positions. But today, he hadn’t wanted her to come at all.

Though there were still some strings of connection linking him and Laila, he could ignore them, but he couldn’t ignore this woman. And as much as he would have wanted to tell Laila that he would be getting married now and that their sessions of hot sex might never happen again, he couldn’t.

For many reasons, one of them being the fact that she would immediately suspect Viola to be his mate if he could ignore her for Viola, and second, because the Red Moon Pack, who were greatly assisting the Silver Pack and were the reason the Silver Pack had such a large territory by giving away their lands, were doing it because of Laila’s family.

If something happened and they suddenly wanted their land back, it would cause many setbacks for the Silver Pack. So no matter what happened, he had to keep Laila close for the sake of his Alpha duties, so his people wouldn’t lose their luxurious homes. However, he would have to do it in a way that avoided having sex with her, because it would no longer be enjoyable with this addictive woman now in his life.

Right now, he didn’t look forward to returning to his penthouse because he knew Laila was waiting there, expecting him to come and share the night with her, especially when she knew the passcode to his penthouse and could go in anytime she wanted. He had thought of changing it, but that would be unusual behavior that would trigger Laila’s suspicions.

So he didn’t mind staying here longer, just to avoid her and to enjoy this new side of his touchy little kitten.

Sebastian was trying to ignore her ceasing to put the parcel into the microwave when he noticed that her hand movement had suddenly stopped and her eyes had turned distant again. She was looking at him, but he knew she wasn’t seeing him.

"Sweetie?" he whispered, touching her cheek as if to bring her back. But when she snapped back to herself, she suddenly moved away from him, turning her back and attempting to walk away.

Sebastian reacted fast and caught her wrist, pulling her back into his arms. "What’s wrong?" he questioned gently as he hugged her, giving her his full attention while the food heated up. She looked suddenly sad again, as if that cloud of sorrow had settled inside her once more.

"I am a very evil person..." she muttered in a quiet voice, unable to stop herself from telling him what was eating away at her very soul. No one had ever asked her what was wrong in such a loving voice that made it seem like she could spill out her soul to them. So Viola, along with the influence of the alcohol, began to speak.

"I shouldn’t have done that to her. We were supposed to have each other’s backs. We were supposed to be there for each other..."

Sebastian stayed silent as he rubbed her hair, pressing her tenderly against his chest. He had no idea who she was talking about, but he had a feeling they were getting there.

"She cared about me so much, but then we are twins. We are supposed to care about each other, but I was just too selfish to see it. I was too fixed on thinking about how everyone didn’t like me there that I didn’t see that my twin sister was also going through pain..."

Twin sister? Sebastian thought, his brows pulling together in confusion. There was no record that the Lindens had twins. In fact, she was the eldest daughter with a younger sister and a brother. There was nothing about a twin. Was she talking nonsense because of the influence of the drink?

But that pain in her voice...

"What happened to your twin?" he found himself asking, something in him believing her and wanting to console her.

She didn’t reply immediately. She was silent in his embrace, and he almost thought she had fallen asleep until he looked down and saw her staring at the wall with a distant expression.

When he thought she wasn’t going to say anything anymore, she finally parted her lips and spoke in a very quiet voice.

"I betrayed her. The Lindens were supposed to adopt her. I heard the people at the orphanage talking about it and saying how they needed to save Ivy from me because she was a good girl who deserved a better life than constantly getting whipped for my sake. I heard them, and I became so afraid and... Jealous...

"I... I was afraid that without my sister, they would kill me like they killed some of the kids there. And I was jealous because...i know that I will never get adopted. I didn’t want to die by getting my head cut off. I have seen it happen before. They killed some of the kids there and acted like it was nothing...

"I was terrified that without Ivy, who always protected me, I would be the next dead body they put inside the well where they threw the children. I wanted to save myself, thinking that since they liked Ivy so much, then they wouldn’t kill her... I thought I was doing the right thing that day... It felt so right to me I didn’t know it was selfish and a very heartless behavior..."

She paused, her voice quivering as she recalled how at that time she had never felt for a second that she had done anything wrong.

Viola soon resumed speaking, her arms tightening around Sebastian’s waist as this was the part of her past that haunted her the most.

"Ivy told the people that she didn’t want to get adopted without me, but then they said she had no choice because it was an order. The Lindens only wanted a seven- to eight-year-old girl. They didn’t want the two of us as many always associated twins as cursed in that pack, but my fears made me... they made me scheme and wait under the bed of the caretaker at the orphanage, where Ivy was told to shower...

"I took her dress and shoes and put them on, and then I acted like her. I stepped out as my twin..." Viola squeezed her eyes shut as if she wanted to squeeze out the memories, the memory she had erased from her mind during all the years she had lived with the Lindens, until four years ago.

She remembered how she had worn Ivy’s fancy dress and stepped out to meet the Lindens, who had embraced her warmly, believing she was the right child, as they had not even been told that there were two of her, identical in every way, down to the voice and every single detail. In fact, if it hadn’t been for the difference in their expressions, where Ivy was soft and hers was always indifferent, they were such perfect copies of each other that even the people at the orphanage often got confused about who was who.

Looking alike had made her scheme so easy to pull off that not even the staff of the orphanage realized what she had done, because Viola had carefully put on the same soft expression her twin sister always wore.

Viola’s chest tightened even more when she recalled how, when her twin had realized what she had done, she hadn’t exposed her and remain in the caretaker’s room. Ivy had simply watched her with tears in her blue eyes from the window.

"’Come back, Serena,’ she had whispered to me." But what had Viola done? She had turned her back and never gone back. She had never even bothered to think about her.

"I never went back for her. I am a very terrible person. I scheme against people. I even... I even killed to keep Evan to myself. I have blood on my hands. I have people’s blood on my hands. I am nothing but a cursed woman. I don’t deserve happiness. I don’t deserve anything in life..." Her fingers fisted tightly around his shirt, clutching the fabric as though she expected him to push her away the moment the full weight of her confession settled between them. She was evil, and no one should want someone this evil in their life. No one should want her. She didn’t deserve it. Only her sister deserved it...
