Fake Professor, Misunderstood As Strong-Chapter 264: To the ’Wailing Hills’. Part-3.
Outside the walls, there were mostly just farms and warehouses to store the food grown in the farms.
Only a small amount of the population was living outside the walls of Asoport, and even they were just farmers who used to stay there to take care of their farms.
Jareth flew in a straight line and headed in the direction of the ’Wailing Hills’ at an extremely high speed.
He noticed people working in the fields, and he noticed the children of those farmers playing in the mud and running around with innocent smiles on their faces.
As he kept moving further and further from the city, farms and sheds became scarcer and eventually disappeared.
The ground started to become more barren and lifeless the further he flew.
Eventually, there were no more trees or any sort of greenery in sight, and Jareth could only see a barren, uninhabitable area stretching far and wide.
There were broken boulders scattered everywhere, and uneven hills of sand and stone were everywhere.
The terrain was rough, and even the wind became dry and low in moisture, but Jareth was unaffected by the change in terrain, as he was flying and there was no need to worry about terrain.
After reaching the barren landscape, Jareth lowered his flying height and increased his flight speed even more.
With his current flying speed, he was already much faster than a flying jet back on Earth; he was creating sonic booms in the air as he was flying at a speed that was much faster than sound.
Unlike the desert of Chaotic Thunder, where flying was prohibited when he went there and the entire area was covered in sand, this place is much easier to deal with, but this is just the start.
After flying for a while with such insanely fast speed, Jareth was able to travel hundreds of kilometers in a matter of minutes.
When he reached the 400-kilometer mark from the city of Asoport, Jareth decreased his flying speed and stopped moving.
He floated in the sky as he spread his mana detection to sense his surroundings.
’I have already travelled the easier section; next I need to deal with things with more caution...’
In the game, you would absolutely need a flying chariot if you even want to challenge the ’Wailing Hills’ area.
Not only because it’s dangerous, but also because it’s extremely far away from the nearest checkpoint, which is the city of Asoport.
You would need to travel a long distance to reach the ’Wailing Hills’ area, and if you die in the area, you will respawn back in the city of Asoport and will have to do the entire trip all over again.
One of the main reasons why defeating Luche was so difficult was also because there were no checkpoints nearby and the walk back to the boss area was way too difficult.
By the time you would reach the boss area, you would have already fought many powerful monsters and would have exhausted a ton of precious resources on the random monsters.
Moreover, Luche herself is not easy to beat either and is one of the three most difficult bosses in the entire game, the other two being Zion and Konda, of course.
Many players hated the ’Wailing Hills’ area with a passion, and some even made memes that the ’wailing’ in the ’Wailing Hills’ area is actually the frustrated wails of the gamers who suffered immensely in that place.
And Jareth agreed with those frustrated players a lot, but he dared not express his frustration online; otherwise people would say, ’GIT GUD’.
There is a difference between bad game planning and a skill issue.
A single checkpoint near the boss area could have completely solved this horrible soul-crushing walk-back, but no.
The developers wanted the gamers to suffer and thus made it as horrible as possible.
’Sometimes I wonder... was I mentally alright that I played such a game?’
Jareth sighed to himself and glanced forward as he retracted his mana detection.
’Okay, the density of miasma and the flow of mana have started to shift; it means I need to change the direction...’
Jareth moved his body towards the direction where the miasma was denser and the flow of mana was in the opposite direction.
He flew at a much slower speed and spread his mana detection from time to time before retracting it again and moving forward in the direction where miasma seemed dense.
It’s not that Jareth is doing all this because he keeps forgetting the direction where miasma is denser; it’s just that the direction of denser miasma and the direction of the mana flow keep changing over and over.
The first challenge in reaching the ’Wailing Hills’ is crossing the vast distance, but that is the easiest challenge, and you can just do it with a flying chariot or any other flying method.
The second challenge is keeping track of the correct direction and pathway.
Just like how the ’Desert of Raging Thunder’ was covered with a massive thundercloud that kept shooting thunder over and over.
This place has its own set of problems.
The ’Wailing Hills’ area has a high density of miasma and corruption.
Mana and Miasma can never stay with each other peacefully; due to this, mana and miasma collide around the outer edge of the ’Wailing Hills’ and create powerful illusions.
These illusions can create phantoms of monsters, can affect your mind, or can make you lose your sense of direction without you even noticing it.
Even in the game, it was a must for your character to have a powerful ’Mana Detection’ skill just so they could safely pass this second challenge.
By using ’Mana Detection,’ you can send a minute amount of your own mana in all directions and get feedback about what’s in your surroundings.
It’s a very easy-to-learn skill but needs immense control if you want to make it reach higher grades.
Jareth has ’Mana Singularity,’ which has made his mana control reach ’extreme’ levels.
When it comes to mana detection, perhaps there’s no one better than him in this world.
Although Jareth can keep himself immune to such illusions using mana singularity and his own magical skills.
But the scale of illusions in this place is just too massive.
Mana and miasma are colliding here almost like two different waves of tsunami colliding with each other from different directions.
Even if Jareth stops them from colliding once, more of them will keep coming and will keep colliding in a fierce struggle to push each other away.
Mana would push miasma, and miasma would push mana in an attempt to claim more area for themselves.
This struggle is something that is inbuilt in the laws of this world, so Jareth didn’t bother wasting his time in dealing with it, as it was futile.
He used the same method he had used in the game; he opened and closed his mana detection over and over to determine the correct direction and headed there before repeating the process all over again.
It was a safer and much easier approach than smashing your head between the conflict of mana and miasma like an idiot.
Thankfully, the area of collision is not that wide, and he can cross it in a small amount of time as long as he keeps heading in the right direction.
