Chapter 178: Unchecked Arrogance

All the students of the Gold Section gasped for breath; they were panting heavily as sweat trickled down from their foreheads. The valkyrie waited for a while and declared in her usual cold and emotionless tone, "Listen well, everyone, I don’t care who or what you are, whether you’re from a royal family, a prince or a princess. Whether you’re from a prestigious noble family or a commoner, none of it matters to me. What matters to me is whether you are strong or not."

"As I am the strongest, I will be the fortress commander, if any of you have any doubts?"

She raised her sword and pointed it towards them, and added arrogantly, "Come at me, all of you."

A pin drop silence permeated the air at that arrogant and bold declaration; all those coming from the high echelons of various kingdoms had a furious look on their faces. But terror from moments ago remained etched into their minds, stopping them from confronting her. It was truly a spectacle. Those who would one day in the future run the kingdoms were now muted, disrespected, and humiliated. Yet, no one even dared to stand against her. It was perhaps the greatest example of how spineless and corrupt the future leaders of humanity can be and will be. freewēbnoveℓ.com

Lumina smiled at the absolute display of power of her friend. Power so great that even the most arrogant are forced to swallow their humiliation and keep their heads lowered. All the princes and princesses looked at each other, but they felt the same fear deep in their eyes; no one dared to stand up against her alone.

Lucien had already moved away from that place. He was the one who perhaps knew most about the unreasonable power of the valkyrie. But even so, there was a strange glint in his eyes looking towards the valkyrie. Axel didn’t know what it was. The guy probably fell for her even harder with her display of such power. Lucien liked strong women after all, from what Axel knew at least, courtesy of the dragon blood running through his veins.

Axel only gazed at the valkyrie disdainfully for being such an unnecessary show off, though it must have felt...quite good to behave arrogantly like that, and putting down all those sons of bitches in their places. They were indeed fucking weaklings acting on their family background and shit. Well, at least on his standards, that is.

Seeing that no one dared to actually stand up against her, she shook her head in disappointment, these worthless piece of shits did not even dare to stand up against her, what would they do if a war with any other races actually broke out? And they are supposed to be leaders and kings of the next generation. She said coldly, "Since no one has anything to say, I will be the fortress commander and decide who will be in other roles as well."

At this point, the third suncrest princess spoke up, surprisingly with no trace of fear in her, despite staying quiet up until now, "What makes you think that you are the right person to lead us all and make the proper decisions?"

Axel’s eyes narrowed at the third princess. He looked at her with obvious suspicion. Sophia looked at her for a moment; there was no mockery or any negative emotions on the face of the third princess. She was genuinely asking that, to this day, the third princess was a silent mystery to her. There were times when she would act as dumb and arrogant as her brothers.

But other times, she would be almost unnoticeable and mysterious in a way. Almost uncaring to a certain extent, she would say. She answered her without hesitation, "Because I am the one who can do it the best."

It was nothing but a simple and arrogant statement, yet the confidence in her eyes was absolute; it wasn’t overconfidence rather an assured certainty that will eventually come true. Seeing that, the princess backed off, dragging away both of her brothers despite their unwillingness.

Thorian’s brother at this moment asked with a contained frown, "And what if you cannot do it right? What if we lose?"

She looked at him through the corner of her eyes, though her face was expressionless, there was a silent mockery in her eyes as if this person had lost their common sense. She stated boldly, "Then I will take full accountability for it."

Though most of the students were displeased by how she was bossing them around, they could only silently accept it, with no other choice for them. After that, everyone became quiet, and the valkyrie placed a hand on her chin, deciding on whom to assign what role, though she had already thought about it once, but had not finalized on it yet. She was just glossing over the details once to make sure that her decision would indeed be right.

After a minute of uncomfortable silence, where no one among the 300 gold section students spoke or made any noise when the valkyrie was thinking about distributing the roles. She was finally done debating internally about it and announced, "Okay, I have decided on who the division leaders will be. We will likely be defending on our first try. Assuming that..."

Everyone focused their attention back on her as she continued,

"The division leader of the shock troops will be Heinz Gil."

"The division leader of the sharpshooters will be Vyra Vanelis."

"And the division leader of the fortifiers will be Axel Nomrad."

For a moment, everyone was surprised by the distribution of the division leaders, and the surprise was on both sides. First of all, she did not put the 2 people she was closest to as any of the division leaders, who were Lucien and Lumina. Just as some of them were about to argue with her on that, Sophia shot a silent glare towards them. Which shut them up again.

Lucien also seemed... perplexed. From his angle, he would be a good choice for the division leader of either the sharpshooters or the shock troops. And he was skeptical about whether the alchemy genius girl was the right choice for being a division leader. She was certainly the most talented archer without a doubt. But being a competent leader was a totally different thing, at least under pressure. Would she not be better used as an alchemist?
