Chapter 146: Interrogation??

Selwyn let out a visibly tired sigh and said,

"Do you think I would be here if it wasn’t so serious? Almost all of the academy students are now unanimously against you."

Axel chuckled, it was old news, "So, what do we do now? Vice-principal?"

"We? There is no ’we’, Mr. Axel, it is you who should do something, considering you want to salvage the situation in the first place, that is."

He smiled, "So, I’ve been automatically given the verdict of being innocent."

"Sharp one, aren’t you? Yes, you could say so, it would be the dumbest thing from your end, if you actually did something like that, besides, we have our way of knowing whether you’re guilty or not. But if you’re expecting us to declare that you’re innocent, that is not possible; we won’t do such a thing. You have to find who framed you and prove your innocence on your own. Though we do have guesses on who the likely ones are behind this incident."

"But you won’t be knowing that information as well, but from your nonchalant attitude, I presume you already have something in mind to turn the situation around?" asked Mr. Selwyn doubtfully.

Axel asked with a grimace, "The academy has been providing me with benefits non-stop, why not help now?"

"Small benefits like those are no big deal, and it was only because of the headmaster’s personal intervention that you can enjoy those benefits, but this is a very serious matter, and we won’t be helping you in any way on this matter, otherwise there will be serious political implications later on."

Axel smiled, "Why does it feel like you guys already knew that I wasn’t responsible for it from the start, and you actually brought me here for my own safety, maybe?"

Selwyn snorted in annoyance, "You think too highly of yourself, we half knew that you were likely not responsible for it, but wasn’t completely sure, but we became full sure after bringing you here, and you got to have some uninterrupted time in your hand to think for yourself that how you will salvage the situation, if you know what I mean."

Axel had a thoughtful expression on his face for a moment, then eventually said,

"If I’m really thinking too highly of myself, why is the principal providing me such benefits? Even though you label them as small things, they are not? I severely doubt it as a typical treatment that all the best runecasters of each generation get such treatments?"

Mr. Selwyn’s mouth twitched visibly. He said, "You’re too sharp for your own good, and what do you think is the reason behind it?"

Axel smiled darkly, "I do have some guesses, not that you will know what they are?"

Selwyn glared at him angrily and rebuked, "Boy!! I’m not in the mood for your silly antics."

The smile on Axel’s face vanished. Hearing that, he sneered, "Oh please, do you think I will reveal one of the most crucial pieces of information about myself, just like that? You’re playing a fool’s game here, vice-principal."

Despite the obvious insult, the already visible anger on the vice-principal’s face actually receded; he subtly gestured with his hand, and a solid sound barrier erected around them. His vice-principal smiled and asked,

"Not bad, not bad indeed, though You should have been more cautious about it, if you were so eager on hiding it, your runic eyes that is, thankfully the nurse delivered the news to me directly and no one else learned of it, otherwise everyone would have known and The principal after learning of it, made those special privileges for you, as a new term of rules."

Axel shook his head, "No, you’re wrong, it was never me who intended to hide it, but the academy hid its existence, so I simply played along, but yes it is better to have this thing hidden, and I understand your reasons for doing it, regardless of my personal wishes, the power scale of the next generation which is already highly tilted towards the Suncrest kingdom, it would tilt even more if my runic eyes are revealed."

"But it’s a temporary effort, you do know that, right? I mean, I have to reveal these one day, when the time comes."

"Yes, I know, but even so, we would like to keep the balance of powers as long as possible, even if it may be a fleeting one; this is the principal’s wishes after all. He hates wars, I tell you," stated Selwyn Brown.

"Understandable. I suppose," he agreed.

"So, are you going to tell me what you’re plan is?" asked the vice principal in curiosity.

But he shook his head, "No, I am not. Please first bring Professor Alfred here, then I will tell you, and it’s not exactly a plan, because it’s not that hard to figure out who might be behind this."

Selwyn raised an eyebrow at that. He gestured with his hand, and someone came inside. he ordered, "Go and bring the rune professor here, now."

The person who was a 2nd phase Seeker nodded and went outside of the white room to go and bring out the professor, after a few minutes Alfred came, and seeing the two of them sitting in silence like that, he was surprised for a moment, he came close to the table and sat in another chair.

He stated with a chuckle, "My boy Axel, I heard you caused quite a bit of trouble. But considering what little I do know of you, it is unlikely for you to do something so foolish unless some ghost took over your body, that is."

His runic class professor basically supported him and claimed his innocence in front of the vice principal, the gesture brought a smile on Axel’s face, seeing that support from his teacher. Mr. Selwyn spoke up at this moment to clear up the misunderstanding,

"Alfred, you are not here to be a judge of whether Axel Nomrad is guilty or not; we already know he is not responsible for this, but we won’t be helping him with it; he will clear his name by himself in front of all the students."

Alfred was surprised for a moment and nodded in understanding,

"Uh, I suppose it makes sense that you already know of it, maybe you guys even know who the likely culprits are behind this?"

Selwyn nodded but did not say anything more. Alfred exclaimed in slight excitement,

"So, this will basically be a test for you, Axel."

"But are you sure you are up for such a tall task, my boy?" Alfred asked.

Axel smiled at his rune professor, but it was Selwyn who answered him.

"The boy already has a plan in mind, but refused to explain further without bringing you here; he most likely needs you for it."

He added after a pause, saying to Alfred, "Professor, you are not obliged to help with this, you should know."

Alfred chuckled and said, "Well, I will be the judge of that, but I presume I cannot get too directly involved in this, considering Axel will not be receiving any help from the academy officially, as such, if I do help, it will be me doing the boy a favor? Am I right?"

Both Axel and Selwyn nodded at that statement. Alfred exclaimed,

"So? Let’s hear it, my boy. What ingenious plan do you have in mind, and it better be good."
