Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Chloe Nash’s Hands Tremble

Chloe was packing her things while talking to Julian.

"Julian, help Mommy hold this."

Julian nodded excitedly, "Okay, Mommy! Is there more?"

Chloe smiled and pinched his cheek, "Why are you so happy?"

"Because we can all sleep together at home—Mommy, Daddy, and me."

He looked at Chloe, his eyes curved in joy, bright and sparkling with excitement.

Only then did Chloe remember that she had promised Silas she’d help Julian with his treatment, and had also agreed to live with him.

But then so many things happened, and Julian’s wish had never come true.

Seeing her hesitate, Silas strolled over, lowered his gaze at Chloe, "Dr. Nash, have you forgotten our agreement?"

Chloe shook her head immediately, "No, I promised to be with Julian, but that doesn’t include you."

Hearing her response, Silas couldn’t help but smile, "Why are you afraid to spend time with me, Dr. Nash? Are you worried you might fall in love with me?"

Chloe: Of all people, I’d never fall in love with you.

She shot Silas a cold glance, "You’re overthinking. I just don’t want people gossiping."

Seeing her attitude, a trace of sorrow flickered in Silas’ eyes.

But that emotion disappeared at once.

He said gently, "I have a patient to see, just down the hall in room 312. Why don’t you both come with me."

Chloe hesitated, "What patient?"

"He’s a driver. He once took a girl to make a donation at an orphanage in my name. Later, he had an accident and was in a coma. Now he’s awake, and I want to ask him if there’s anything more he remembers about that girl."

Chloe was packing a water cup when she heard this. Her hands shook, and the cup fell to the floor.

Water splashed everywhere.

Silas reacted quickly, pulling her aside and gently ruffling her hair.

His voice was soft, "Why are you so careless?"

Chloe looked at Silas, nervous.

Back then, when she went to donate, she deliberately wore a mask and hat, and dressed in men’s clothes.

That driver hopefully wouldn’t recognize her.

Her lashes fluttered. She said, "Julian and I will wait here for you. You can go by yourself. Lucy went to get breakfast—if she comes back and we’re gone, she’ll be worried."

Hearing her excuses and seeing her evasive eyes, Silas gave her a meaningful smile.

He opened the ward door and explained his reason for coming very politely.

The driver cooperated, thought for a moment, and then said, "That person wore a mask and a hat. I didn’t see her face clearly—looked like a man, but she left behind an earring in my car."

He took out an obsidian earring from a small pouch and handed it to Silas. "This one. My wife said it’s worth money. I was going to return it to her if I could find her. But since you know her, please return it for me."

Silas’ lips curved gently and he nodded to the driver, "Thank you. If I find her, I’ll be sure to return it. Please rest up—I’ll leave you be."

With that, he turned and left.

His palm clenched tightly around the earring.

As long as he found the owner of this earring, he could find Sienna.

This was the only way he was sure Sienna Paxton was still alive.

Silas slowly opened his hand, staring at the obsidian earring, murmuring softly, "Chloe, is it you?"

The day the truth came out was drawing closer, and his feelings grew more complicated.

If Chloe was truly Sienna, why would she meet him but not recognize him?

Did she hate him that much?

The thought made Silas’ eyes gradually turn bloodshot.

He gripped the earring tightly, his voice hoarse, "Sienna, no matter where you are, no matter who you are, your brother will find you."

He pushed open the door to Chloe’s hospital room.

Chloe was talking with Lucy Rhodes and Julian. When she saw him come back, her relaxed state disappeared and she tensed up immediately.

Her hands by her sides subconsciously clenched the hem of her clothes.

Lucy asked curiously, "Hey, did you find any clues?"

Silas nodded slightly, opening his palm to reveal the obsidian earring.

His tone had a hint of sadness, "She wore a hat and a mask and men’s clothes—but the driver found this earring, so she must have been disguising herself as a man."

When Chloe heard this, her heart tightened.

That day, she’d dressed as a man. After getting in the car, she realized she’d forgotten to take out her earrings.

She’d hurriedly removed one when the driver wasn’t looking—

But accidentally dropped one, and had searched for a long time without finding it.

Lucy picked up the earring, examined it carefully, "This earring’s a pretty niche brand. Not many people wear it, but it does look familiar. I think I’ve seen it somewhere before."

Silas’ eyes lit up, "Think carefully. Who’s worn it?"

Just as Lucy was about to remember, Chloe suddenly spoke up.

"That brand’s gotten more popular these years. It’s not so rare—just one earring isn’t enough to find someone."

Lucy agreed, nodding, "Yeah, it’s not one of a kind. Even if we find her, if she doesn’t want to admit it, there’s nothing we can do."

Silas glanced at Chloe’s slightly tense expression and deliberately said, "If that’s the case, I’ll just run a DNA test. There’s blood on the earring—maybe we can use that to check."

When she heard that, Chloe’s face grew pale.

Her breath stalled for a moment.

She knew the chances of tracing someone through the earring were slim, but there was still a possibility.

Especially since her blood was on it.

If Silas suspected her and used the earring to confirm it, her true identity could be exposed.

That thought made a fine sweat break out on Chloe’s forehead.

Seeing her so tense, Silas asked with concern, "Dr. Nash, why are you sweating so much?"

Chloe forced a stiff smile, "I think the air conditioner’s not working. I’m just a little hot."

Lucy blurted out, "Hot? I feel cold. Chloe, your hands are icy, but your forehead’s sweating—do you have a fever?"

"No, let’s hurry and go. My mom made a feast to thank Silas—if we don’t go now, the food will get cold."

At the mention of food, Julian perked up and clapped his hands, "We’re going to Grandma’s for dinner!"

Just as they were about to head out, Jett Sterling pushed open the door and walked in.

He was holding a bouquet made of candies and little plush toys in his arms.

With a smile, he walked up to Chloe and handed her the ’flowers’, "Chloe, these are all your favorites. Congratulations on your recovery and discharge."

Before Chloe could react, Silas moved in front of her—

"Stay away from her. That’s the best protection you can give. If it weren’t for you, she wouldn’t have been set up by your stepmother and stepsister over and over again."

"That’s between Chloe and me—what’s it got to do with you?"

"She’s my son’s carer. I’m responsible for her safety."

Jett sneered, "Responsible for her safety? With you around, she’s least safe! Don’t think I don’t know why you sent Albie Kane away. You just want to take his place while he’s gone. Silas Prescott, I won’t let you succeed."

He shoved Silas aside and handed the bouquet to Chloe.

"Don’t worry, Chloe, I won’t let him hurt you."

Watching the two of them argue made Chloe’s head ache.

Not only did she have to be on constant guard about her identity being exposed, she also had to deal with these two men fighting in the open and in the shadows.

And she couldn’t afford to offend either of them.

She glanced at the ’flowers’ in her arms and quietly said, "Thank you."

Then she took Julian and headed out, both men following close behind.

Just as they reached the hospital entrance, a shabby old woman led a little girl toward them.

The grandmother bowed deeply. "Sir, Miss, please have mercy. My granddaughter’s seriously ill. We have no money for treatment. If she doesn’t get surgery, she’ll die. My son and daughter-in-law are gone, and if I lose her too, I’ll be left all alone."

As she spoke, the old woman wiped her tears.

Scenes like this were Chloe’s weakness. She could always empathize and think of her past.

She took the report from the old woman and studied it closely.

The old woman wasn’t lying—the child had a heart defect and needed immediate surgery.

Chloe was just about to get her wallet when she saw Silas hand a bank card to the old woman.

He said gently, "There’s two hundred thousand on this. It should cover your granddaughter’s surgery."

The old woman dropped to her knees with a thud and bowed, crying, "Thank you, sir, thank you, miss! May the Buddha bless you with a lifetime of peace."

Chloe hurried to help her up. "Ma’am, hurry and get her to surgery. She can’t wait any longer."

The old woman got up and repeatedly expressed her gratitude.

Then she took her granddaughter and left.

She hadn’t gone far when Silas called out, "Wait!"

He took the ’flowers’ Jett had just given Chloe from her hands and looked at her sincerely, "That little girl’s had it hard. Give these to her—she’ll be happy."

Chloe nodded without hesitation.

When Jett came out, he saw Silas giving Chloe’s ’flowers’ to the little girl.

He gritted his teeth, "President Prescott, you’re quite good at giving away someone else’s gift, aren’t you?"

Silas pointed at Jett and said, "It’s from that uncle over there. Go thank him."

The little girl and her grandmother bowed to Jett, who was so annoyed he had nowhere to vent his frustration.

All he could do was watch as they left with his bouquet.

Seeing him like this, a trace of triumph flashed in Silas’ eyes.

Mr. and Mrs. Nash had prepared a huge meal; after all, Silas had saved Chloe’s life and Jett had helped them get back at Mrs. Sterling—proper gratitude was a must.

Jett rolled up his sleeves like a host and headed for the kitchen. "Sir, Chloe’s favorite is my spicy chicken. I’ll make it for her."

Mr. Nash smiled, hesitating a little, "Jett, since Chloe’s been abroad, she doesn’t like spicy food anymore. No need to make it."

Jett looked over the ingredients on the counter and didn’t see a single spicy dish.

This made Jett suspicious.

No one knows how much Chloe loves spicy food better than he does—how could she change her taste after just a few years abroad?

She’d never been allergic to pollen, but after returning from overseas, suddenly was.

She’d never had claustrophobia, but now she suddenly did.

She always loved spicy food—now she won’t touch it at all.

If it was trauma that made Chloe forget anything related to him, then how do these changes make sense?

Jett, whose doubts had just been laid to rest, now became suspicious of Chloe’s identity once more.

Aside from her face, everything about Chloe seemed to have changed.

But no matter how she’d changed, one thing Jett was sure of—Mr. and Mrs. Nash knew the truth.

Jett fell deep in thought, wondering just what Chloe was hiding.

——

That evening, as per their agreement, Chloe went to the apartment with Julian.

As soon as they walked in, a torrential rain began outside.

Chloe looked kindly at Silas, "It’s pouring. The road back to your family’s old house has several viaducts—driving now would be dangerous. Why not stay in the guest room tonight?"

Hearing this, Silas gave her a meaningful smile. "Not afraid of people talking anymore, Dr. Nash?"

"You saved my life. I don’t want anything to happen to you," she said, completely serious.

"All right, I’ll do as you say."

Back in this home, once Julian finished his bath he clung to Chloe, telling her stories.

The two of them played late into the night before finally going to bed.

Chloe lay on the bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. For her, that earring was a ticking time bomb.

She had to find a way to steal it back from Silas.
