Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 69: He Often Hurts Himself to Miss Sienna Paxton
Chloe Nash stood, while Silas Prescott sat.
So suddenly falling into her arms, Silas’s face landed right against Chloe’s belly.
His feverish breath seeped through the thin fabric and onto Chloe’s skin.
She could even feel a wet sensation, as if something was licking her.
A familiar tingling, almost electric, quickly spread across her skin.
Chloe felt as if she’d been shocked.
Her instinct was to quickly push Silas Prescott away.
But Silas’s arms were like two iron clamps, tightly locking Chloe’s waist in place.
He slowly lifted his head, his eyes bloodshot, his voice trembling with sickly weakness.
"Dr. Nash, why did you lie to me just like Sienna did? Fries isn’t your son. Why did you tell me he was? Now I’m starting to doubt your husband is fake, too."
Upon hearing this, Chloe’s attempt to push Silas away froze instantly.
She suddenly remembered, in her panic earlier, she’d admitted Fries wasn’t her son.
She hadn’t expected Silas to so quickly suspect Albie Kane wasn’t her husband. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
He really is smart enough.
Now that the truth is out, there’s no need to keep lying.
She said, "Fries really isn’t my biological child. He’s Albie Kane’s son. In a car accident, Fries’s mom passed away, Albie fell into a coma, Fries was kidnapped by traffickers, and later I rescued him.
Albie and I only got involved because of this child. He lost the love of his life, and I broke up with Jett Sterling. Maybe it was shared misfortune, empathy. As we spent more time together, we fell in love."
Hearing these words, all Silas felt was stabbing pain in his chest.
A hazy layer of tears began to blur his eyes; his throat bobbed uncontrollably.
Then, voice hoarse, he asked, "Do you think my Sienna might be like you too? After leaving me, would she be with another man, and never come back?"
Chloe’s gaze instantly darted away. "She’s her, I’m me; we’re not the same."
"Then can you tell me—if she’s just like you—what do I have to do for her to come back to me?"
Silas had always kept his head raised, his eyes full of endless sorrow.
There was the humility and pleading of a lost soul in his voice.
It left Chloe at a loss.
She pressed a hand to Silas’s shoulder, stopping him from leaning into her again.
"Mr. Prescott, every relationship is different. I can’t give you advice, but I know one thing—some things, once broken, can’t ever be fixed. Some people, once you miss them, they’re truly gone. Don’t force it."
Hearing that, a bitter smile flickered on Silas’s lips.
It was as if every ounce of strength had been pulled from him, and he sagged heavily back in his chair.
The pallor that already haunted his face darkened with a pain that could not be put into words.
His tone grew even heavier than before.
"I will find her. I’ll bring her back to be Julian’s mother."
Seeing how stubborn he was, Chloe didn’t want to say more.
Even one more word could risk exposing her identity.
Just then, Lucy Rhodes hurried over. Seeing Silas like this, she was flustered.
"Dr. Nash, what’s wrong with my brother? Is it blood loss?"
Chloe nodded: "He gave 800cc; his body is feeling weak."
Lucy felt sorry for him. "But he got hurt yesterday. He lost so much blood, and his body hasn’t recovered yet."
Chloe was surprised: "He was injured and nobody told me? In this condition, he shouldn’t be donating blood at all."
"I don’t even know where he’s hurt. The butler said there were lots of bloody bandages in my brother’s room. It happens all the time. We ask him, but he never tells us where he’s wounded."
It seemed Chloe now had some idea.
The last time she’d seen Silas’s wound, he’d carved letters into his chest with a knife.
From what Lucy said, this kind of thing happened often with Silas.
He often used self-harm to remember Sienna Paxton.
The thought made Chloe’s fingertips tremble involuntarily.
Every nerve in her body felt pierced with pain.
What could she do to make Silas finally forget her?
Unconsciously, Chloe balled her fists, nails digging deep into her palms, not even feeling the pain.
Until Julian Prescott’s voice sounded in her ear: "Mommy, take care of Daddy."
