Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 47: He Felt Heartache Seeing Chloe Nash Cry
Chloe went to Silas Prescott’s office.
She got straight to the point and asked, "Why are you doing this?"
Silas Prescott calmly handed her a cup of coffee: "I mean no harm, I only want to help you. That case involves the Sterling Family’s interests, Jett Sterling can’t help you at all, but you don’t trust me, so this is the only way I can help."
Hearing these words, Chloe sneered, "And what about the public opinion? Why let it fester? If you hadn’t pushed this matter into the spotlight, my dad wouldn’t be so hard to save. Silas, because of one move from you, our family is in living hell now.
Do you even know that after my mom found out, she fainted? We finally saw a glimmer of hope, but you extinguished it all. What exactly do you want me to do for you?"
Tears shimmered in Chloe’s eyes, but she did her best not to let them fall.
She was now the backbone of her family and could not let anyone lead her by the nose.
Seeing her so angry, Silas Prescott frowned: "This case involves a lot of people at the very top. If I don’t blow up the public opinion, those people will quietly make your father the scapegoat. Chloe, what I did was for your own good."
Chloe didn’t believe a word, instead letting out a mocking laugh: "Then I should thank you, Silas Prescott. We have no grudges, why are you doing this to me?"
Seeing her so upset, a hidden pain gnawed at Silas Prescott’s heart.
He couldn’t help wanting to wipe Chloe’s tears away.
But his hand had barely reached out when Chloe dodged away from him.
She took a few steps back, her tone icy: "Silas Prescott, I feel sorry for Julian. Such an innocent and kind child, how did he end up with such a scheming father like you?"
"Chloe." Silas Prescott called her in a low, hoarse voice: "If I said I did all this to make you stay, would you believe me?"
Chloe let out a light laugh: "Well, congratulations, you did it. I can’t leave now. So what’s next? Are you going to make me sleep with you, be a substitute for Sienna Paxton, entertain you?"
Hearing these words, Silas Prescott felt another stab of pain, his voice dropping: "I just want you to stay and spend more time with Julian. He refuses psychological treatment—if this keeps up, the doctor says he might miss the best window for his treatment. But asking you to stay, you wouldn’t agree, so I had to do it this way. For the trouble I’ve caused you, I apologize."
With tears in her eyes, Chloe managed a smile: "Just to make me stay, you would hurt my family too? My mom’s blood pressure is over two-twenty now—if this keeps up, the doctor says she could have a stroke.
Silas Prescott, because of your selfishness, do all of us in my family have to pay with our lives? My dad’s already in trouble, do you want something to happen to my mom too?"
The thought that all of this was Silas’s doing made Chloe feel deeply wronged.
No matter how many years she spent running, even with a new face, she still couldn’t escape his grasp.
Still had to be controlled by him.
Chloe felt that Silas Prescott was her destined calamity—one she could never escape in this life.
As her tears fell faster, Silas Prescott panicked.
He quickly grabbed some tissues to help wipe Chloe’s tears.
His tone softened with pleading: "Chloe, I’m sorry, I used the wrong way. Please, stop crying? I’ll get the best doctors for your mom, and the best lawyers to help get your dad out—as long as you don’t cry anymore."
Chloe avoided his touch, wiping her tears as she said, "Silas Prescott, we could have talked this through. Why did you have to be so extreme?"
"Sorry, I apologize. Even if you don’t agree about Julian, I’ll still help your dad."
All his calculated arrangements collapsed in the instant he saw Chloe’s tears.
He didn’t even know why he’d become like this.
The last time he lost control was five years ago, when Sienna Paxton was still around.
Chloe was not one to wallow in drama.
After Silas Prescott apologized, she didn’t want to harp on it any longer.
After all, getting her father out was what mattered most.
She sniffled, then said, "About Julian, I agree. I’ll convince him to accept psychological treatment."
When he heard that, the heavy stone on Silas Prescott’s chest vanished.
His expression grew complex.
There was excitement, guilt, and a tangle of emotions he couldn’t even begin to explain.
He quickly called his assistant: "Chloe’s father’s case—follow up on it with everything you’ve got. Find the best lawyers; get him out as fast as possible."
The assistant tried to advise him: "President Prescott, this case involves a lot of people. Aren’t you afraid you’ll get implicated?"
Silas Prescott’s even voice held a note of authority: "Are you trying to teach me how to do my job?"
That one sentence had the assistant breaking out in a cold sweat, rushing to answer: "No, I’ll make arrangements right away."
After hanging up, Silas Prescott instructed his secretary to bring in another cup of coffee.
He looked at Chloe with a gentle tone: "Don’t worry, I’ll get your father out as soon as possible. Have some coffee, please, try to calm down."
With things as they were, there was no reason for Chloe to keep up her cold demeanor.
Between them, it was just a transaction: once her father was out of prison and Julian’s illness stabilized, she could leave.
She just needed to be cautious around Silas Prescott.
Chloe took the coffee, took a sip, and said, "I was too anxious earlier and my tone was harsh. Sorry."
Silas Prescott finally let out a sigh of relief: "So you’re forgiving me?"
Chloe said nothing, just nodded.
The smile on Silas Prescott’s face grew wider; he quickly pulled out his phone and called Julian.
"Pack your things and stay with your mom for a few days."
When Julian heard that, he was over the moon with excitement.
He jumped up and down on his bed in joy.
By the time Silas Prescott got home, Julian was already waiting in the yard with his suitcase.
When he saw Silas Prescott’s car, he ran up to him straight away.
Face upturned, he grinned: "Mom—"
Silas Prescott ruffled his head: "Your dad almost got in trouble with your mom for you. Let’s go; we’re going to the hospital to see her."
By the time Silas Prescott brought Julian to the hospital, Mrs. Nash had already woken up.
He walked over very politely, set some nutritional supplements on the table, and said warmly, "Auntie, I’m sorry to have worried you. Don’t worry about Uncle’s case—I’ll do everything I can to help him. But please, don’t get too anxious, or Chloe will worry."
Hearing this, Mrs. Nash had more or less guessed what was going on.
Tearfully, she looked at Chloe, taking her hand: "Chloe, it’s my fault. Otherwise you wouldn’t have..."
She wanted to say that if it weren’t for this, Chloe would have left already—escaped from Silas Prescott’s grasp.
But now, for her father’s sake, she had to stay, and even beg this madman Silas Prescott for help.
Chloe, afraid Silas would notice something, immediately cut her mother off.
"Mom, just focus on getting well. I’ll think of a way to get Dad out. You don’t need to worry about anything else."
She offered her mother a few words of comfort, gave the nurse some instructions, and then walked out of the ward.
She grabbed Julian’s suitcase and said, "I’ll take him home first. As for the therapist, I’ll let you arrange it."
Silas Prescott nodded, "Okay. I happen to have an apartment nearby. You and Julian can stay there—it’ll be convenient to take care of Auntie and bring Julian to his treatment."
At those words, every nerve in Chloe’s body felt pricked by needles.
She shuddered all over from fright.
The apartment near the hospital—wasn’t that the place she and Silas Prescott lived together during college?
