Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Chloe Nash, Why Didn’t You Come to Me?

Chloe thought this matter was over, but she didn’t expect Silas Prescott to come for her to settle old scores now.

After all these years, this man’s jealousy hadn’t changed a bit.

Chloe’s eyelashes trembled slightly: "I didn’t look for him, he came to me on his own."

"But I also offered to help you, and you refused me. Yet you turned around and accepted Jett Sterling’s help. You maintain a distance from me in the name of propriety, but he can bathe at your home, Dr. Nash. This double standard is not how it’s played."

Silas Prescott leaned on the car roof with one hand, bending down, his deep black eyes reflecting the streetlights overhead.

Like a dangerous light hidden beneath a gentle surface.

This look of Silas made Chloe fear, because from her understanding of him, Silas was on the verge of madness.

She hurriedly pushed against Silas’s chest with her hand.

Trying to stabilize her emotions, she said, "After all, Jett and I are classmates, we understand each other better, and I feel distanced from you."

Silas chuckled quietly, his hot breath carrying a hint of cool mint as it wafted into Chloe’s nose.

He gently brushed his fingertip against Chloe’s bangs, his tone revealing no emotion.

"We’ve even kissed, and you tell me you feel distanced. Are you reminding me, Dr. Nash, to engage in more intimate activities with you?"

As he spoke, he moved towards Chloe’s lips.

Frightened, Chloe quickly covered his mouth: "Silas Prescott, get a grip. I’m Chloe, not Sienna. You are not allowed to kiss me."

That one sentence made Silas’s actions freeze.

He stared at Chloe’s face for a long time, his breathing becoming a bit heavy.

Why did his feelings for Chloe seem so similar to those he had for Sienna?

Seeing her with another man made him jealous, and seeing her not seeking his help drove him mad.

Since Sienna ran off, he hadn’t felt this way in a long time.

Was it that he didn’t love Sienna anymore, or was it that he saw Chloe as Sienna’s substitute?

Seeing him stop, Chloe quickly pushed him away and ran upstairs.

Because she didn’t know what Silas might do next.

Seeing Chloe escape from his grasp, Silas brought his fingers to his nose and sniffed.

The scent of Chloe lingered there.

It wasn’t the smell of perfume or shampoo, but her natural scent.

A faint rose fragrance, just like Sienna’s.

He always found it strange that although both he and Sienna used the same body wash, she emerged smelling like roses after a shower, while he smelled of the lemon scent of the body wash.

Two different individuals sharing the same body scent.

Why was this?

Silas pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and took a deep drag.

The heavy nicotine flavor couldn’t dispel the rose scent on his fingers.

He looked up towards the place in Chloe’s home where the lights were on.

His deep eyes gradually clouded with darkness.

Early the next morning, Chloe received a call from Jett Sterling.

She was a bit puzzled: "Why so early? The lawyer isn’t even at work yet."

Jett’s voice was a little hoarse: "Chloe, someone is blocking the investigation of this case. Those who initially agreed to help us are backing out, even the lawyer. He said he was threatened, and I suspect it’s Silas Prescott."

Hearing this news, Chloe became completely stiffened.

Just when they saw a glimmer of hope, it was shattered.

She bit her lip tightly and asked, "Do you have evidence?"

"My people found out, the person pulling strings from behind is indeed Silas Prescott. It was he who stirred up public opinion, making this case so hard. He also instigated the Sterling Family’s shareholders to cause trouble, forcing me to stop the investigation. Chloe, Silas Prescott is not a good person. He surely wants to force you to come to him and might have a deal in mind. Don’t fall for his trap."

Chloe didn’t doubt Jett’s words because this was exactly something Silas would do.

In the past, he was just as sinister, openly agreeing not to bother Sienna’s suitors but secretly hitting hard.

She tried to keep her emotions steady, "I know. You shouldn’t get involved from now on. I don’t want you to bear the brunt of your family’s criticism because of me."

"Chloe, what do you plan to do, find Silas Prescott? If so, you’d be walking right into his trap. Others might not know him, but I do. He seems gentle and elegant, but he’s actually a venomous snake, attacking silently."

Chloe didn’t understand Silas, but Sienna did.

She gave a somewhat bitter smile: "Don’t worry, I’ll be fine."

Jett sounded anxious: "Chloe, don’t act rashly. I’m currently confined by my grandfather, but when he lets me out, I’ll definitely find a way to help you."

How could Chloe not understand Silas Prescott’s methods?

Since he wanted to meddle in this case, he wouldn’t spare anyone who tried to help him.

Chloe didn’t want to make things difficult for Jett.

She pretended to agree, "Okay, I won’t look for him. I’ll wait for you to come out."

Hearing this, Jett finally relaxed, softly saying, "Chloe, don’t lie to me. You’ve lied to me once already, you can’t do it again."

Chloe felt deeply saddened.

First, she felt comforted for the real Chloe having a first love like Jett.

Then, she felt helpless over Silas Prescott’s actions.

After hanging up, she sat on the bed, dazed.

How should she face Silas Prescott?

She knew there was a tiger on the mountain, but she insisted on heading towards the tiger’s lair.

She was so angry, she wanted to confront Silas right away.

But she had to calm herself.

Think carefully about what to do next.

Just then, a loud noise erupted behind her.

Chloe immediately stood up and ran towards the door.

She saw her mother lying on the floor.

Chloe was so scared her voice didn’t even mask its urgency, as she rushed over shouting, "Mom, what’s wrong?"

She cradled Mrs. Nash in her arms, pinching her philtrum.

Mrs. Nash looked at her, tears streaming: "Chloe, is your father not coming out?"

Chloe instantly understood what was going on, realizing her mother had overheard her conversation with Jett.

She quickly reassured her, "Mom, don’t worry. There will be a way."

"But if that’s the case, you’ll have to go to Silas Prescott. Mom doesn’t want you jumping into the fire pit. You risked your life just to survive once."

Chloe felt deep sadness, even with such a crisis at home, her parents’ thoughts were still on protecting her.

Why were they so good to her?

With tears in her eyes, she said, "Mom, this life is Chloe’s gift to me. Protecting you is my promise to her. I’ll take you to the hospital first, and then think of a solution."

Silas Prescott was in a meeting when his phone suddenly rang.

Seeing the caller ID, he instantly answered.

On the other end, Chloe’s hoarse voice came through: "Mr. Prescott, can we meet?"
