Chapter 216: You did well

’’Lucy, he is the man I met yesterday,’’ Esme handed the trident to Luciana, ’’I don’t want to be recognized by him.’’

Luciana frowned, ’’The King wanted you to do it. It must be related to your powers. What if you can use your powers after this?" She handed the trident back to Esme.

’’But—’’

’’You need to do this, Es. If anything goes wrong or if you fail to use it, then I will do it for you. I will intervene in the process,’’ Luciana said.

’’And you will risk being beheaded,’’ Esme scoffed.

’’If you are able to use your powers later, I won’t regret it,’’ Luciana winked.

Esme sighed, feeling the warmth in her heart.

’’I know I am the best friend one can wish for.’’

Esme chuckled as she approached the throne chair.

A golden table was placed in front of Aleister and all the representatives of the main gods stood on the other side of the table.

Esme avoided looking at the Prince whom she found really beautiful, but somehow, she could feel his gaze on her.

She did not know if she was overthinking or if he had already recognized her but she could feel his eyes constantly fixated on her. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

On her gown. Especially. She wondered if something was wrong with the gown she had donned.

The representative of the Light God removed his crown from his head as he held it in his hand. He closed his eyes and soon a white light emerged from the crown before it dimmed and enveloped the crown wholly.

The Princess of the serpent clan, Ruby moved her serpent wand to the front of her body, a silver glow illuminated around the wand.

Esme noticed some weird gazes being exchanged between the Prince and the silver-clad Princess. Were they familiar with each other? She wondered. Their heated gazes made her feel like they were cutting each other with their gazes.

The person standing next to her bent forward as he drew a star on the golden table placed in front of the Prince. The star was illuminated by a red glow and a black butterfly appeared in the middle of it.

Esme found her gaze shifting towards Aleister occasionally, and hence she noticed how his face darkened at the sight of the symbol. The change in his expressions was minuscule but she noticed it.

As the representative of the witch clan stepped back, Esme gazed at the trident in her hand.

She could feel the entire court’s attention on her now. It was the first time in a long time someone represented the Water God and everyone could not hide their intrigue no matter how much they tried to.

The court was entirely silent but Esme’s keen ears picked up the sounds of Luciana’s panicked whispers.

’Do it, Es. You can do it. Just close your eyes and focus.’

Esme tilted her head down to look at the trident in her hand.

She twirled the trident, moving it towards the front. She could feel nothing in the trident except for its weight.

Luciana bit her bottom lips as she watched Esme.

She could see the impatience growing on everyone’s faces.

Clenching her fists, Luciana pushed herself to her feet in the silent courtroom.

Her gaze met Cardan’s accidentally. The man shook his head at her, motioning her to go back to her seat.

Luciana averted her gaze and stepped forward. The trident contained their God’s divine powers. Esme was not God’s descendant, she was not his apprentice nor did she know how to use her own powers. She couldn’t handle the trident.

Luciana felt like she should have known that her hopes were too high in these circumstances.

There were no such miracles—

Luciana’s footsteps halted when a glow appeared on the trident in Esme’s hand.

The pale white glow gradually shone brighter as it turned golden, unleashing the trident’s divine powers.

The soft material of Esme’s blue gown fluttered as a strong gale overwhelmed the court, whirling past everyone.

Luciana covered her eyes with the back of her hand as she stepped back instinctively.

The wind got stronger and stronger until the tension in the air thickened.

Luciana placed her palm on her throat, unable to breathe. ’’Cough..’’ From the gap between her hand and eyes, she glanced at Esme who was still standing there, straight and calm.

The aura of the divine powers made everyone in the court uncomfortable.

Other than Esme, the only people who seemed to be calm were the Atlas and Aleister.

Cardan seemed fine to some extent too but Luciana noticed the pallor on his face. She concluded the reason behind it was that his powers were impure because the man possessed a mixture of his mother’s black magic and his father’s divine powers. So, he must be affected too.

Aleister was gazing at Esme intently but Luciana could see the familiarity in the way he looked at her. Just like in the past.

The veil on Esme’s face had flown away in the wind at some point. Her long vibrant red hair swayed.

The danger in the air did not diminish the beauty of the woman.

’’Stop...! Cough... Stop!" Ruby shouted but Esme still had her eyes closed.

Luciana followed Ruby’s gaze and glanced at Adrian who was clutching his chest. Right, he was a human!

Without giving it another thought, Luciana extended her hand, pointing her finger towards Adrian. Immediately, a water shield enveloped the man.

While his condition did not look better but it did not worsen further.

Luciana’s gaze met Ruby’s and the woman nodded at her thankfully.

Right when Luciana felt like she was reaching her breaking point, Atlas pushed himself to his feet.

The man snapped his fingers and Esme jerked back to her senses.

She stood there quietly for a moment as she glanced at the trident in her hand. Then, she turned towards Atlas.

’’This is the first time I did this,’’ Esme’s voice was polite as she bowed slightly towards the man.

It was disrespectful given his identity but the man did not seem to mind.

’’You did well,’’ was all Atlas said before he removed his crown and held it in his hand. He closed his eyes and his lips moved as he blessed Aleister as the last main god.
