Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 206: Cruel words
Luciana used to think that they had formed something that almost resembled a friendship in the past year but the man just had to remind her of their deal and his true motives for approaching her.
And now, she was annoyed just at the sight of him.
Beautiful men are all troublesome.
Aleister... the man had only eyes for one woman. And Luciana was thankful that she did not catch his attention because the Esme she knew would have scratched her eyes.
A nostalgic smile appeared on her face as she thought about the old days in Visteria. The King, the Duke, the hateful Esme from back then, the highly pleasant treat to her eyes—Prince Aleister, the huge and scary Leo... those were not the days she ever thought she would miss.
Just as Luciana’s eyes started closing, she heard the sound of approaching footsteps.
Her eyes snapped open, ’’You...’’ her expression changed when she saw Cardan, ’’What are you doing here in my room?" she gasped.
’’Your room?" Cardan looked around, ’’This one?"
’’Is it not?" Luciana blinked in confusion, ’’But your guard escorted me here.’’
’’Oh, she must have believed you are one of my mistresses when she saw me whispering intimately in your ear,’’ Cardan even had the audacity to look shy at that.
Luciana gritted her teeth. The information that he had mistresses was not as surprising as his claim that she might have appeared like his mistress.
Was that why that guard did not bother to respond to her words?
’’You, my dear heavenly Prince, cannot afford to have me as your mistress,’’ Pressing a hand on her half-bare chest, Luciana swam towards the stairs. As she came out of the water, the scales on her body started disappearing as her gown covered her body.
Both their trunks were taken to Esme’s room and she was still wearing the gown from before.
’’I think I can,’’ Cardan narrowed his eyes, ’’But I don’t think I want to,’’ he looked at her in disinterest.
Luciana was exasperated, ’’You will be the last man in this world, Prince Cardan, yet I would not want to spend another moment with you,’’ the frustration got the best of her, ’’You are not the kind of man I prefer.’’
’’Then what’s your kind?" he stepped towards her.
’’Someone like Prince Aleister. He was not a manwhore,’’ Luciana shrugged, ’’Back in Visteria, I always admired him,’’ Every shade his face darkened, Luciana felt like it was a page of victory, ’’And I was madly in love with him because of the way he was, the way he looked, the way he talked and everything. If Esme was not at stake, he would have been mine to keep.’’
She was exaggerating it. It was true that she admired Aleister but it never reached the point of love because they barely interacted. And that man treated women like they were invisible. Except for one woman.
Esme used to be irked every time she stared at her man, and at that time they were enemies hence it felt like a victory just like it was feeling like a victory right now, watching the never changing expressions of the great Prince Cardan changing gradually.
Aleister, wherever you are, forgive me but your half-brother is annoying.
Luciana enjoyed the irritation on Cardan’s face till he regained his composure.
The corner of his lips tugged up in a smirk, ’’How about we talk about what I plan to do to your friend?"
Luciana’s face dropped, ’’You aren’t doing anything to her,’’ she hissed.
’’I can. If I want, I will kill her right at this moment—’’
His words were yet to finish as the glass chandelier above his head shattered to dust. Luciana twirled her fingers and pressed a broken thin glass shard next to Cardan’s neck, "I will kill you.’’
Cardan laughed mirthlessly, ’’Do you think Esme would still see you as her friend if she regained her memories?"
’’It doesn’t matter. In all these years, she is my only friend, with or without memories. And I know she was wronged by my father. I remotely sit to bother about what she will think about me. The last thing I can do is kill her man’s half-brother who stayed between them in a disguise and backstabbed them at the given opportunity. Maybe it will help me redeem my sins a bit, don’t you think so?"
Cardan laughed, ’’And you think you can kill me with this?" he glanced at the glass shard.
’’If I can’t kill you with this...’’ Luciana pressed her body closer to his till their chests were touching.
Cardan froze, his eyes darkened.
He looked at her in a daze while her foot moved up his boots.
Her toes pulled out the dagger from his boots and in one swift move, she held it against his neck with her other hand, ’’Then I will stab you with your own dagger. Something has to work on you, hmm?"
Cardan looked at her angry countenance, stunned. But soon a smile made its way to his lips, ’’Lucy...’’ he intimately whispered her name, maybe on purpose to provoke her, she assumed, ’’When you do things like this, my heart just skips a beat for you,’’ he whispered.
Luciana was speechless, ’’When I tell you that I will stab you?"
Cardan nodded, ’’Especially when you hold my own dagger against my neck.’’
The corner of her lips twitched.
’’I was just lightening the atmosphere. I am not going to kill your friend,’’ Cardan said.
Luciana looked at his face for any hint of deceit but there was only sincerity in his eyes. She did not think he was the kind of person who meant what he said most of the time but other than trusting him at the moment, she did not know what else she could do.
’’You lighten the atmosphere by telling me that you will kill my friend? Do you think I should laugh?’’ she stepped back from him and grabbed his hand before placing the dagger in it.
’’You can choose not to, ’’ he shrugged, looking at her fingers that slipped down his hand once she handed the dagger to him.
’’You have a drop of blood on your neck. Did you kill those people who stopped us there?"
Cardan was briefly surprised by her observation, ’’Are you going to tell me about how I shouldn’t have done that? How they were such innocent people doing their work?"
’’Oh, I was thinking about praising you,’’ Luciana raised a brow.
Cardan’s surprise was evident on his face this time.
’’What?"
’’Never thought a beautiful girl like you would spout such cruel words,’’ Cardan whispered.
’’I was born this beautiful, I’d like to add,’’ Luciana crossed her arms in front of her chest, ’’And I don’t think there is anything remotely cruel about killing a bunch of people who would have killed us if Leo was not as powerful. About doing their work, they weren’t doing it right anyway, or else they would have waited for me to prove our identities,’’ she was intending to show them their trident which would have proved her words.
