Chapter 205: Speak of the devil

Half of her head was bursting in pain and Luciana felt like her flesh was being separated from her body.

’Splash’

’Splash’

One after another, the guards kept falling inside the lake as the rest struggled to stay there while holding the rope.

How? Despite the pain, Luciana was bewildered. What strength did Leo possess to tackle these people who must have extraordinary powers to guard a place in heaven?

’’Ahh...’’ she winced as she felt a warm liquid trickling down her ear. She brought her trembling palm in front of her eyes and looked at the blood on her skin under the pale glow of the stars, ’’Leo... Leo, stop...’’

The beast’s golden eyes seemed to be shining in the dark as he roared even louder.

Luciana grabbed Esme’s hand harder, ’’Leo, Es is unconscious. You will harm her!" She shouted despite the growing pain and discomfort in her body.

And just like that, the aggressive beast suddenly froze.

Leo’s scary countenance disappeared as he strode towards Esme carefully.

Luciana panted, rubbing Esme’s cold palm.

’Thud’

Luciana froze at the sound.

As she turned around, she found the head of the guards kneeling, ’’T-The God of Beasts?"

Luciana blinked as she looked at the remaining guards dropping to their knees, bowing their heads in reverence, ’’We apologize for our impudence,’’ came their voices in unison.

Luciana followed their gazes, turning around to look at Leo who was focused on Esme.

The corner of her lips twitched as she gulped softly. God of Beasts? She had read about the five main gods when she sneaked inside that secret library when she was young but there was nothing about beasts.

She would have doubted their words but given the way he threw all these strong men inside the lake with just a roar left her with nothing to explain the situation.

Luciana could not help but wonder why and how she offended all these high and mighty people. As if the Prince of the Dark Castle was not enough, now the quiet little beast Leo who hated her turned out to be... a God?

’’Apologies are unworthy when you offend people you should not raise your head to look at.’’

Speak of the devil.

Luciana looked towards the source of the familiar voice.

Cardan stalked towards them, followed by two female guards. One of them walked towards Esme.

Luciana frowned.

Leo immediately took his defensive posture.

’’You are going with her,’’ Cardan spoke to the beast, ’’You are there with her if anything goes wrong. She will be sent to her assigned room.’’

’Roar’

Leo growled, provoked by the man. Back in Visteria, Leo was there and he had seen and known everything that happened.

As far as Luciana remembered, Leo even killed a witch which turned him into this small furry creature.

And there was no way he would trust Cardan fully no matter how harmless he looked.

After all, losing Aleister... must have made Leo more possessive of Esme.

’’She won’t be harmed,’’ Luciana said, pushing herself to her feet.

Cardan approached her, his beautiful blue eyes looking at her with a gleam of mischief.

Luciana averted his gaze. She wondered if she had a weakness for blue eyes. First, she was infatuated with Aleister and now this devil’s eyes looked beautiful to her.

She knew her head was twisted in certain parts but she had no idea it was this twisted.

Cardan lowered his head, letting his chin graze her neck as he whispered in her ear. His fingers grazed her ears and suddenly a cool sensation spread through her slightly bleeding and burning ear.

It felt better. Did he possess healing abilities?

’’I can heal you partially,’’ he said, as if he could read her mind, ’’My healing powers are impure.’’

She was reminded about what King Rezeph had said. Cardan’s powers were impure because of his incomplete blessing ceremony that did not include the water god and probably his mother who possessed dark magic instead of divine powers.

’’If I kill her, what can you do?" he replied to her previous words, bringing her out of her daze.

Luciana’s breathing hitched, whether by the proximity or by his warning, she was clueless, ’’You would not dare.’’

’’You would never know,’’ Cardan pulled back to look at her, his easygoing face back in place as he glanced at the guard who escorted Esme to her assigned room, ’’Go with her,’’ he pointed his finger towards the other female guard.

"I’ll follow Esme...’’

’’These antics of yours might get her killed soon.’’

In the end, as indignant as she was, Luciana followed the female guard. After all, Esme was here for a purpose and Cardan would not harm her before she blessed whoever this mysterious prince was.

’’This is the room,’’ she mumbled, marveling at the beauty of the place. Crystal chandeliers hanging above wayed slowly with the wind, making tinkling noises and they shone every time stars grazed past them.

Luciana concluded that the guard who escorted her to this room was not as talkative given how fast she left.

The room was large, too extravagant for a guest like her but she wondered if this was how things worked in the heavenly realm.

Unbothered by it, she walked under the glow of the candlelights, her feet coming to a halt in front of a pond.

A pond inside a room?

It was too large to be called a pond but way too small to be called a river. Regardless, the sight of flowers and small candles floating on it held her attention.

Luciana glanced at it for some time before she walked towards the door and closed it.

Walking back to the thing she decided to call a pond, she stepped inside it by taking the stairs. Her body gradually transformed by the time she was inside it.

As the water touched her body, Luciana felt her nerves calming down.

Leo was there with Esme. Nothing will go wrong.

As for her... she did not know how she would survive here for the next three days while watching Cardan.
