Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 167: Just save him
Blood splattered on her face and her beige gown was tainted in red. Her heart thumped and she opened her eyes, only to find Adrian staggering on his way. There was a large garish hole near his chest, she could see his flesh through the hole.
’’No!!" Tears welled up in her eyes, ’’No...’’ she whispered again and shook her head.
But that did not stop Adrian. He walked towards her even though his footsteps kept staggering. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer to him. There was no weakness in his grip. He still seemed like her powerful elder brother.
If she was not seeing the huge hole in Adrian’s chest then she would have believed her brother was still as strong as before or maybe his strength has increased considering the force he pulled her with.
But he staggered and fell to the ground.
The dagger in her hand fell and he dropped to his knees and Esme felt her body going limp, ’’Brother!’’ the rims of her eyes turned red.
’’How heart-touching,’’ Cardan snickered as he folded his arms in front of his chest.
Esme’s lips thinned and her fingers curled into a fist. Despite the tears welling up in her eyes, not even a single teardrop rolled down her cheeks.
She slowly raised her hand and grabbed his shoulder to support his body.
’’Esme, leave this place,’’ Adrian looked at her with a solemn gaze, his voice authoritative.
’’No, I am not leaving you....’’
’’I said leave!" Adrian snarled at her. It was the first time in his life he raised his voice at her.
And she flinched for a split second.
His gaze softened, ’’Go to him. Find...’’ he clutched his chest as a sudden pain shot through his wound, ’’...Find Aleister.’’
Esme let go of his shoulder and she pushed herself to her feet.
’’It was that easy? Ready to leave?" Cardan looked at her in amusement, ’’You don’t care about your brother anymore? How cruel! But I like it. Now, I am more certain that we will get along really well.’’
Esme did not pay attention to him and she gazed in a particular direction, ’’Come out. I know you are here,’’ she said.
There was no movement.
Cardan raised an eyebrow. Who was she calling? Was she traumatized to the point of losing her mind?
’’Esme, leave!’’ Adrian gritted his teeth.
’’I know you are around. You said that you will protect me but you never came, no matter how dangerous it was. You went back on your words.’’
’’I didn’t,’’ There was a rustling movement and Ruby stepped towards Esme, ’’Protecting you was an obligation and you are still alive which means I stuck to my duty. There is no need for you to know about how and where I protected you.’’
’’It’s you,’’ Cardan looked at the woman in amusement.
Ruby did not acknowledge him.
Esme understood that they knew each other but she had no interest in delving into their personal relations. She did not think Ruby meant any harm to her. She glanced at Adrian who was slowly losing consciousness gradually, his gaze was not focused anymore.
’’It doesn’t matter,’’ Esme glanced at the woman who was clad in a beautiful silver dress that highlighted her copper skin tone. It seems that Ruby was still the same as she was 7 years ago. There were no signs of aging on her face, ’’I have one request.’’
’’And what makes you think that I will fulfill it?" Ruby glanced at her nonchalantly.
Esme’s fingers curled into a fist, ’’I’ll beg you if you want or count this as a favor you are doing to me. I’ll repay you with anything you ask for,’’ she stepped towards him, ’’You called yourself my protector and I have never seen you around me no matter how dire the situations were,’’ she almost died in the hands of Liz and Keith. But now, the latter was dead and the former was still in prison.
It was probably her good luck that she escaped from their clutches but that did not change the truth, ’’I was all by myself. Make it up to me.’’
’’Princess, I was supposed to protect you till you turn 18 and I did that.’’
’’Will you or won’t you?" Esme asked her, ’’Just say yes or no and I will understand it.’’
Cardan watched the scene from the sidelines. At one glance, Esme looked like just a delicate pretty princess but the woman had lots of tricks up her sleeves.
Ruby glanced at Esme.
Esme did not back down. She stared at Ruby with the same intensity.
’’What is it?" Ruby let out an annoyed breath.
Esme’s shoulders relaxed. She was placing a bet on Ruby who did not look like the kind of person who would be tied with someone. But Ruby was in fact tied to her responsibilities. There had to be a reason she was protecting her since she was a child or there has to be a person who told her to do that.
’’Save him,’’ her lips wobbled as she extended her hand towards Adrian, ’’Don’t say anything. Take him away. Save him.’’
’’Or you can ask me to save you,’’ Ruby did not spare a glance at Adrian as she whispered to Esme.
Esme’s eyes welled up, ’’Just save him,’’ her voice was desperate at this point.
She did not know how long her brother would breathe. Cardan’s attack was so powerful that it left a huge hole in Adrian’s chest.
And she understood it well that if she asked Ruby to save her, the woman would do that but she won’t save her brother.
And Esme did not want to leave Aleister alone here.
Ruby glanced at her quietly for a moment before she walked towards Adrian.
’’Don’t blame me if he dies,’’ she said.
And in the next moment, both of them disappeared from the place leaving Esme alone with Cardan.
Esme glanced at the spot where her brother was, an intense regret swelled up in her chest. She should have been harsher with him when he said that he wanted to protect her. She should have found a way to push him away from her.
