Chapter 166: A punishment

That day... Ruby was the one who dealt with those assassins but since this man didn’t seem to have any idea about her then maybe she covered her tracks with her powers.

’’Princess, your so-called lover has no things such as love and affection in his veins. It doesn’t run in our blood. He treats you well because you have what it takes for a man to pay attention to you. Your body is extraordinary, so are your powers and your entire existence,’’ his lips tugged up in a roguish smirk, ’’He is just like me but I am way better than him. I treat my women very well. They are showered with jewels and they walk on silk. Moreover, I still let them live even after I am bored. But if it’s you, I will treat you way better than I have ever treated anyone else because....’’

’’Because I am precious?" Esme raised an eyebrow.

’’Smart,’’ Cardan winked.

’’So, you treat your women well?" she asked him.

’’That’s right.’’

’’For someone who killed countless maids after bedding them and abusing them, you are certainly shameless to claim that,’’ The officials found countless bruises on their bodies and they were damaged in ways words can’t explain. And all of it... all of it was blamed on Aleister.

Everyone looked at him like he was a beast.

Even if he did not care, she did!

’’Well, they were not ’MY’ women. I was just passing time with them. Imagine a healthy man living under the identity of a woman,’’ he clicked his tongue, ’’I have certain desires too, Princess.’’

Every time she thought she had reached her limit, she would end up being more disgusted with him. There was a time when they assumed that Duchess Flora was taking virgin maids with some ulterior motives but she never expected that those women were so humiliated before their death.

’’Enough talking. Now that you know that your Prince is not that much into you...’’

’’If he is not into me right now, then he will be into me one day. I’ll make sure of that,’’ Esme tilted her chin, ’’No matter what motive he approached me with, the reason he stays with me will be because he wants me for who I am.’’

Although she said that, she had no doubts regarding Aleister’s motives towards her. Using her? Hah~ Was that a joke?

For once, she would even admit that she took advantage of him. Waking up to that face and sleeping next to it was blasphemy in itself let alone the countless times when he helped her.

Cardan glanced at the woman who spoke to him with such arrogance in her eyes. Those eyes. Beautiful grey eyes. He wanted to dig them out and frame it in a sparkling glass case before hanging it on the wall near his bed.

’’As for how precious I am...speaking in your words...’’ she stepped closer to him till there were a few inches gap in between their bodies. The corner of her lips tugged up, ’’No matter how precious I am, I belong to myself." she rolled her eyes and her hand moved in a swish.

He grabbed her hand, the tip of the dagger stopping an inch away from his eye, ’’You are quite fancy, by words and actions but what made you think that the same trick will work on me twice?’’ he mocked but suddenly his brows scrunched up as he felt a dagger slicing from the back of his ear down to his neck. He felt a warmth trailing down the spot.

His grip on her loosened and she looked at him, almost looking down at him despite her smaller stature compared to his, ’’What made you think that I’ll use the same trick?" she glanced at the silver dagger in her hand. It was the one she always carried with her and after the incident that occurred with Liz and Keith, she kept it with her all the time, ’’You are naive.’’

This time the wound healed like earlier and Esme ended up laughing, ’’Told you... No matter how precious I am, I belong to myself. The effect of my blood wore down on you.’’

Cardan looked at her with narrowed eyes, a dangerous glint flashing in them. He wanted to rip this woman apart. The audacity she had! It made him want to destroy her till she begged him to spare her life.

He extended his hand towards her neck and Esme wanted to dodge it but something in the distance caught her attention. Her gaze caught a flash of silver. Was it...?

’’Stop right there!"

A purple ray shot at Cardan’s wrist just when his fingers barely grazed her neck.

’’Brother, no...’’ Esme’s eyes widened.

Cardan retracted his hand. The attack barely caused any harm to him. Humans, humans... How foolish of them to think that they could harm him? At that thought, he gazed at the woman who did it already... not once but twice on the same day.

He was not on his guards around her because she looked so delicate and fragile who could be snapped with just one touch. But who could have known behind that soft exterior lived a feisty and wild creature?

He raised his hand and touched the blood that was trailing down from his ear down to his neck. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

’’You sliced me pretty decently with your pretty dagger, Princess. Don’t you think you deserve some sort of punishment for that?" He turned to look at Adrian who was striding towards them before tilting his head to the side to look at her.

And for the first time, he watched as her nonchalant expressions finally shifted. Her composure slipped, her expressions transforming into sheer horror.

He enjoyed the look on her face. The look that appeared after she lost her calm.

Esme’s finger trembled and she opened her mouth but before she could speak, Cardan lifted his hand and a ray shot out of his finger. A golden ray. But unlike the magic that Aleister possessed, this appeared dark, there was a tinge of black in it in the golden.

’’No...’’ Esme whispered as she retreated a few steps.

’’Ugh...’’
